Paris Shootings and Explosions

Allies bombed Nazi Germany, am I not correct? So why do you claim that one can not bomb territory on which ISIS hold power? Because what? Because ISIS is not there? It does have police, people over there pay taxes to ISIS, they got gas, they got electricity and you claim that one can not bomb ISIS?
As for Muslim radicalism, there would be no Muslim terrorists if Europe and USA ended what they started. They did not keep their troops in Iraq, they did not give enough money to troops in Afghanistan and it is because of this that we all ended with this mess.. People were telling "get poor innocent people out of Guantanamo" now these "innocent" people fight for ISIS. I wonder why?
We, the western civilization had to wage war to not have our territories conquer once again by Ottoman empire and other people from the Middle East. Somehow you forgot that our territories were under Ottoman occupation for quite a long long time. 400 years? 300 hundred years? Hungary does not count? Greece does not count? Bulgaria does not count? Serbia does not count?
Perhaps YOUR western civilization waged war, MY western civilization was occupied when Your part was free.
Perhaps that's the difference.

Surely, this must be a troll?

Exactly. And since there are ISIS terrorists in France, does that mean we start bombing France and other western countries too to make sure we get all of them?
Hmm, during the second world war there were Nazi sympathizers in USA, I understand that USA bombed itself to get rid of these Nazi sympathizers, right?

It's war. France and several other countries are attacking ISIS and now ISIS is fighting back. This was to be expected. The Great Powers let ISIS gain power, they should have intervened much earlier. There wasn't a consensus on what should be done in the area and so they did nothing for years. And now the war is reaching us.

The countries don't want to destroy isis completely because isis is perfect opportunity to play political games on many grounds between big goverments.

Russia started to bombing isis, and what usa media say ? That this is so wrong. Come on.

ISIS is a group not a country. That makes it way difficult because you can't just bomb a whole country because members from that group originate from them. Also, this isn't a war of Western Civilization vs ISIS. The group has also committed these bombings on countries such as Lebanon (http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/11/13/us-mideast-crisis-lebanon-idUSKCN0T20HT20151113) and Baghdad (http://english.alarabiya.net/en/New...uicide-bomb-in-Baghdad-kills-at-least-18.html). One of the bombings are even done from inside a mosque (!!). You can't exactly say that the Islamic countries are all a part of them. ISIS are basically a bunch of psycho who thought anyone different from them is wrong.

Also, for the people saying that evil wins because Paris declared a state of emergency, I doubt that was the case. Things are not always black or white in the real world. Government should make decisions based on what would work the best on the well-being of the citizens both physically or mentally. They shouldn't make decisions based on what makes them look tough. There are time to be happy and there are times for mourning. And this is the time for the latter. The government is not saying that they're going to do nothing about it. They're just making sure that risks are being handled appropriately.

It sucked that the event was cancelled but whatever competition or event it is, whether skating or soccer or football, it all paled down in comparison to respecting the victims and making sure everyone was safe.

Edit: There has apparently been a beheading on Afghanistan a few days ago involving a nine year old that's apparently linked to these groups (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...d-girl-prompted-huge-protests-in-afghanistan/)

You just don't get it do you?

The Nazis were elected by the Germans into power, the territories that were conquered and brought to submission by ISIS did NOT vote for ISIS, why should these civilians, already brutalized by an invasive violent army of monsters, suffer further by being slaughtered from the air by the Russian and NATO planes?

Try Google "ISIS armed by..."...look how inadvertently ISIS got armed and funded..

The Powers decided they needed to break the "dictatorships" of Iraq, Libya, Syria, topple the democratically elected "dictators" and so they bombed and quartered these countries back to the Stone Age. These were secular sovereign states with roads, universities, labs, hospitals, economies, families, functioning societies, etc. So these countries completely broke down, millions died, fled, the pro-West factions of "rebels" got $$$, weapons and training to help topple the "dictators", then turned around, joined ISIS and started invading and terrorizing towns and villages from Iraq to Syria.

So now the people who didn't flee should face the wrath of International bombardment....it makes sense.

As a matter of fact is said that USA did not bomb ISIS but bomb other jihadists. Russians bombed jihadists who were situated near Assad's and Iranian's al Quds forces. Only couple of days ago Russia started to bomb ISIS. And so did USA.

I'm not saying Saddam, Gaddafi and Assad were saints, they had blood on their hands, undoubtedly corrupt and ruled the countries with an iron fist but at least they were SECULAR, modern and reform-minded, fighting radical tribes and keeping crazy religious fanatics and ideologues away from the functioning states they have built up, where a majority were leading ordinary lives, where ancient relics and precious archaelogical sites were cared for and preserved.

Why were our politicians going after them when they should be taking care of problems at home?? Honestly, it is as if this is deliberate, to create failed states, refugees, radicalize the Middle East, and to sit back and wait for blowback. I don't know what to think anymore.

Because it's not bad situation for goverments. Normal people are scared more and more, and it's easier to impose restrictions on them under "security reasons" so people will become even more dependent on the state.

This is what scares me, Occam's Razor, the most obvious reason is the correct one.

just wanted to let people know - as much topics as there are covered in Wikipedia - it is NOT by any means a comprehensive and the 'be all, end all' source of information.
It can be a starting point to get a GENERAL and basic idea of whatever you're looking for - but please refer to other more credible sources (like books, articles by credible journos/ news outlets etc, geopolitical analysis etc)
And remember, Wikipedia can be edited, has been edited, and will be edited by people - its contents are changed and will be changing all the time.

Also katia, I have to admit: the way you lift Quranic quotes without context and the way you interpret them literally WITHOUT reference to preceding texts, the texts that come after it, as well the historical references - is also eerily similar to how the radical extremists interpret the Quran. They lack the insight of scholars who knows to regard the Quran as verses that connect to one another to create a whole message, and lack the knowledge of the historical events from which the verses transpired.
They just put together this verse plus that verse on its own without context, and create their own violent interpretation of the Quran.
Why do you think ISIS kill Muslim clerics and scholars in places they occupy in the Middle East? Because these are the people who can actually counter the wrongful things ISIS are preaching.

This is an international forum and we understand that there are different opinions regarding government, ISIS, muslims, refugees, religion, etc. However, this thread was not created for political discussions, but for solidarity in support of the horrible tragedy that took place in Paris, France.

If you have 100+ posts, you are welcome to discuss politics in the sub-forum here. However, we ask that you keep politics out of this particular thread.

A copy of this thread will be placed in that forum for your continued conversation there.

Apparently Gatwick Airport Scare is now treated as possible another attack. And I just cancelled all my evening plans for weekend:(

Also TVG train just derailed somewhere in France with multiple casualties.

:palmf: This hits close....but it's not a terrorist attack...

I´t is so sad that something like this in Paris can happen these days. So many lives lost and people injured. I feel for them all.

There have been searches in Brussels with at least one arrest.

Also, a Frenchamn with what appears to be a firearm was detained at Gatwick. There is no confirmation as yet whether this is in any way connected with the Paris attacks.

Apparently one of the terrorists is a Syrian who got into Europe through Greece as a refugee,
So get ready for a lot of **** over this :slink:

This was not hard to predict. As I wrote earlier. This politic that is going on right now in Europe is completely stupid

That is just awful.

I spent a wonderful day watching the shorts programs in Bordeaux. When I got back to the hotel I had no idea what happened in Paris. Then I got a text message on my phone saying "there are shootings in Republique do not go there". I used to live in Paris that is why I received it. French people were sending texts to everybody they knew to warn them and to tell them not to go in that area of Paris. I turned on the TV and saw the news. I spent three hours watching TV, crying and calling my friends in Paris to make sure they were alive. I have a lot of friends who live in the area where the shootings took place. These are very popular places for young people. Two of my friends were stuck in a restaurant close to the shootings. They did not have enough information on the situation and on whether they could go out or not so I was giving them information and telling them not to go out and to wait because we had no idea if the shooters were still in the streets or not. All of my friends are OK but they are really shocked.

I really wanted TEB to continue, I needed some joy but I fully understand the decision.

Now we will try to go on with our lives. Easy to say. I am supposed to celebrate my birthday in a bar in Paris in two weeks...
