Any public use of copyrighted material (including music) requires permission from the holder of the copyright (sometimes the artist and/or songwriter, but often a publishing company). Usually, skaters submit their music to their feds, which work with the various broadcasters (such as NBC) to get approval. Sometimes the terms/costs are different if it’s for a one-time broadcast or for additional on-demand viewing; this is why some much skating stuff gets removed from YouTube for rights violations. It’s totally up to the holder of the copyright as to whether money is involved; a no-fee approval is possible, especially for a prestige event like the Olympics. The key requirement is the need to get permission.

I personaly would enjoy a real world sitiuation. We have everything from adult skaters to rank and file US skaters who attend local and then advanced comps to international skating. The USFS and the ISU should have concreate rules......Permission doesnt have to be fancy. It can all be digital. Its not rocket science. Any artist who wishes to make things complex, gets black balled. You the undersigned agree to let a skater use "Dawn" from Pride and Predujide, knowing it may be used by this team or skater for a number of comps and possibly streamed and even make it to the Olys. If your agent doesnt want the exposure, fine. Black ball them. Find another piece of music.
all the staff and all ther email addresses are on their site. Complain if you want to. They they dont care. They may care when renewal tme comes forward for peacock and they are not offered any money for the rights. Cause no one is watching them. They are watching their VPNs
There generally isn’t a problem with lower-level competitions because they aren't televised to large audiences and/or rebroadcast via internet (this is legally similar to people being allowed to download music and videos for personal use, but not being allowed to rebroadcast them). And the issue isn’t a wish for “exposure”; it’s the artists’ legal right to require permission for how their music (or writings or images) is used and by whom. Sure, you can “black ball” an artist who doesn’t want to grant permission. But you’ll still need to get permission for that “another piece” of music.
Just so you know - you can cancel Peacock at any time. Also, the only streaming for U. S. Nationals will be on Peacock and a VPN will not help you watch.Im guessing this is the same reason when you watch fashion runway shows on youtube- who notoriously play music during the live show- many times the YouTuber plays their own music on the replay? Sorry to go off topic. Horrible waste of money on Peacock this year

It is the latter because repeated emails (and sometimes tweets) over 6 months to Peacock/NBC and U.S. Figure skating asking for an explanation of why the Olympics and every competition before then were removed. Now question about what fans can expect for this season have gone (in my case) unanswered. I received 1 reply from NBC Sports in the spring and was told to ask Peacock. Peacock never replied. I have now jumped to the conclusion that it all ties into the lawsuit about the music. But, of course, I could always be wrong.
IIRC, the Novice and Intermediate competitions, as well as some Senior Nationals, are available on USFS Fan Zone. Although not many watch them, they are available for replay.
Jackie Wong said that was his...impression, or what rumors said, I don't remember exactly how he put it. I can't imagine what else it would be.
