Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier

Ice dancers Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier represent Canada. Gilles was born on January 16, 1992, in Rockford, Illinois, while Poirier was born on November 6, 1991, in Ottawa, Ontario. Gilles & Poirier teamed up for the 2011-2012 season.

Piper & Paul are the 2024 World silver medalists, the 2021 and 2023 World bronze medalists, the four-time Four Continents medalists (gold in 2024, silver in 2014 and 2020, bronze in 2019) and seven-time Canadian national medalists. They are 3-time Canadian champions and the 2021 Skate Canada Challenge champions. The team's 2016 short dance was chosen by the ISU as the basis for the new Maple Leaf March Pattern Dance, currently under development.

I know they competed with their new FD at Minto Summer Skate, scoring 97.66 points.
Carol Lane, their coach, posted the above on twitter.

Chris Dean did not choreograph either of their programs this year.

Wow. That has got MAJOR MAJOR potential. And Piper is really stretching and extending (yay! yay!). It looks like the success of P/C's Mozart Moderne has freed ujp both G/P and their team to push the envelope (hell, that may be pushing the desk a bit as well). Thank you so much for posting it. It's going to be exciting to see them polish and perform that. First program I've seen for the upcoming season that really made me sit up and take notice.

ETA: I would bet money that Carol Lane choreographed the lion's share of it, with probably significant input from Poirier. Hitchcock was no fluke. Bravo!

It's really cool dance. Not only good, but also cool.
They still have a work to do on some technical aspects of their skating though.
I wonder if they will wear weird looking costumes for this dance Or if they'll go for simple, a la P/C.

I know there are alot of nay-sayers out there especially with Piper's skating but I see real improvement in her stretch and overall movement. Edges look good! What I really like is the innovation and chemistry they bring to their performance. Maybe not top 3 but I think they are on the move!

All the positive remarks above raise my expectation to the program, which is why I don't find it very stunning. But still a well-constructed FD with many original moves. Love it!

Just viewed Piper and Paul's SD on youtube. Very fun and innovative, skating to Sargeant Pepper a la Beatles with a classical twist in the middle. I love the creativity that the Lanes bring to their skating. I also love Piper's genuine expression as she skates. I believe her that she's feeling the music and having fun. I think her edges have improved and Paul continues to be fine. It may be another year where the critics rip their costumes but these definitely match the Sgt Pepper theme.
