Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier

if this year's fd was too complicated for the crowd, then the crowd does not deserve to have anything made 'more accessible' to them. it was quite clear - the focus of this fd was not a 'character' (like melancholy, exuberant or whatever), but vision. the vision, i thought, was quite easy to grasp - at least on the screen. but then again, i never saw it live... i seem to be also in the minority that didn't mind the fd costumes. i thought they were alright. besides, any costumes, provided they don't breach the rules and regulations, should not affect the actual scores.

the hitchcock fd was wonderful, and so was this one (an earlier, lesser-known fd): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Okbh1mO2Xcs

the 14-15 season proved that they or their team had suffered a moment of weakness - coming out with dances that consisted of almost nothing more than mediocrity. however, this year they shone again, being their proper selves.

Does anyone know which remix of "Sweet Dreams" they used for their 2011-2012 debut FD? I've been looking for that mix forever.

You make me curious about the song as well. Perhaps, the fastest and easiest way to find out it would be to ask them directly via their social media?

Pattern dances are used as part of SD's and are separately competed internationally at the Novice Level.

This is like when Rahkamo and Kokko's Finnstep was made a compulsory/pattern dance.

This is very cool indeed. :cheer:

I see that my post was made into new thread  I didn't even know it was such a news. Wonder why only Doris post was left  : I'm now rewatching their SD, I love the Beatles, I was so happy for them at Worlds! Btw. I just realized that Piper was born on excatly the same day as me! :yahoo: No wonder I like her

It wasn't posted yet, I think, PJ Kwong podcat with Piper and Paul: http://www.openkwongdore.com/2016/05/09/episode-7-piper-gilles-paul-poirier/

The Lanes are a perfect match as coaches for Piper and Paul. Paul has such skating command and Piper has evolved wonderfully with her skating and expression. Add in the innovation and understanding of the scoring system with the Lanes and you have a formula of success!

Thanks for the SD! Hadn't seen it yet.
The FD looks very mature and sophisticated, I am excited to see how it will develop through the season.
And I can now see they left the camp & fun for the SD. :D

We've got Nebelhorn going on and Piper and Paul are well prepared! The scored 70.32 in SD

I LOVED it!! IMO this is the best short they've ever had and possibly their second best program ever (obviously Hitchcock wins ).

Oh I don't know. I loved their SD last year just a teensy bit more (in both incarnations). But I must say two things:

1. J'ADORE the 70s porn star mustachio Paul is sporting; and
2. My goodness, Piper really has improved.

There is absolutely NOT A THING that is genuinely bluesy, swingy OR hippity-hoppety about this program, but it wouldn't be G/P if they didn't try to bend the rules in their own inimitably quirky way.

God Bless Them.

:)

ETA: And Carol Lane remains unchallenged as skating's chicest coach.

I agree! I really liked their revised SD for worlds last year, but this is just as fun! They're really delivering the whole package now! not just a good theme. I thought this SD was definitely the best overall program at Nebelhorn.

Piper and Paul were amazing *-*
Such a wonderful, original and so in their style SD.
Oh, they charmed me *-*

Piper and Paul are so nonstandard and sometimes crazy. I can only love them more with each new season *0*

to be honest in my book they won Nbelhorn, period.

To present BOTH programs that polished already, with such great attack and presentation is really remarkable. Technique was strong too - obviously there is a room for improvement (as always in tech side), but my oh my - I am impressed and charmed by them once again.

The set of programs is perfectly balanced - a total out-there, quirky SD which does not logically suit any of rhythms required, but somehow they make it work amazingly and oh-so-sensual FD which embodies tango ballroom moves with edge and sophistication of argentine tango style. I think that the fact that SD is so much not directly into required styles/rhythms proves their unique value and originality - they always can adapt rules/styles for themselves, make it work and still have that personal stamp over them.

Both programs are quite a risk in my opinion, but Nebelhorn proved that they are once again successful. And the level of their readiness, the way both programs are polished is amazing to see. Wish them all the best, progress and to stay true to themselves :cheer:
