Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier

i hope you are right... judges haven't given them huge scores yet...
I hope not! I love their work and this year's FD is very good. I would rate them with the top Canadian and American teams. Let's see how the season evolves ...

i am so happy that I saw them live in France. They were magnificent. That free dance gives me chills. They were so intense and in character, I thought they were gonna go shag backstage. Paul is also a sex symbol. Thank you

 Thanks for that honest assessment daphenaxa. I never imagined I'd ever see comments like this about these two. You've given me a hearty chuckle. Merci.

lol i fell off the couch.... paul is on my hottest men alive list ;) i know that we always talk about Poje ;) and others but have you looked at Paul??? OMG :)

jealous of you seeing them live, definitely a dream of mine to witness their performance live. The intensity and chemistry was sizzling just looking at the screen, no doubt it was 10x more intense live. They make a beautiful team on ice and they seem also very connected off-ice, it's great to see them finally emerge from the 'quirks with good technique' section with no good PCS and GOE to 'quirks with great programs and great technique to pull the off' section, gutted that they were 3rd in Paris, in my opinion FD should be won by them by some margin, really can't understand that hype over Hubbell/Donahue FD this year...

About Paul - he's definitely in my top 3 male ice dancers now to watch, so much smoothness and sharpness in his movement, also what is unique for him is the performance/acting abilities - he's really committed to every program they're performing. And in this tango FD he looks beyond HOT

Am I correct that the 6th spot for the gpf is between Piper and Paul and Anna and Luca, depending on how Anna and Luca place at nhk? I think 1st and 2nd are pretty secure with P/C and V/M. It looks pretty good for Piper and Paul?

Uhm, NOPE. With 2 x 3rd place and only 22 points they have no chances to GPF. Even W/P has better situation cause they placed 3rd and 2nd (24 points), just look at standings: http://www.isuresults.com/events/gp2016/gpsdance.pdf
As far as I know, if V/M & P/C will go 1 and 2 at NHK then we have P/C with 28 or 30 points, same with V/M, Shibs with 30 points (won both their GPs), then Bobrova/Soloviev with 3rd and 1st place, so 26 points. The last two spots goes to C/B and H/D who placed second in both their GPs, so they have 26 points. There is no chance for Piper & Paul at all and my soul is crying, we won't see them until Nationals....

I am catching up on watching skating after a long break and I am much impressed by this couple. Their disco program is so fun to watch!

@dorispulaski and @cathlen

:thank: for the videos posted!

stupid me did not know that there is something like SC Challenge and Piper and Paul will be there - now I'll have to catch up, but super happy that there is another competition they have participated! It looks like they rocked it, no wonders for me as this is the best set of ID program for me, with my favourite FD in couple of years

I had a chance to watch both programs from SC Challenge and man...they were fabulous beyond imagination!

This SD is so stylish, so into character of this Disco era, the blend of this blues-y part with pure Disco inferno craziness in the second part is just amazing for me and works so well. From the entrance (Paul is getting more and more hilarious!), through costumes, styling, movement, expression they really embodied the atmosphere and character of the dance and at the same time I feel like they really embrace their uniqueness and different take on ice dance in that SD due to being totally one-of-a-kind program among the field. I mean, some of those transitions are a major risk (to the twizzles, into the non-touching step sequence), but I see that they really wanted to challenge themselves and give the best shot of giving disco-character moves to Disco dance. This time the execution was really sharp and it was probably the best pattern skated from them in my opinion as it really hit all music notes perfectly. Aside of all that - the dance just makes me feel happy, because I feel like they foremost enjoy performing this dance and this feeling projects on audience.

FD - to be honest, I feel really sorry to both Sinitsina/Katsalapov and Stepanova/Bukin, because their FD tangos don't even start to hold a candle for Piper and Paul's masterpiece. PSquared FD feels like everything I've ever wanted secretly figure skating tango to be like - there is no literacy, their chemistry and interaction are just main focus point, the levels, GOEs are not really important watching it. This dance is about a little details, little touches, there is nothing 'big' and 'loud', but their interpretation, so close to the tradition of Argentine Tango style, speaks volumes for me, louder than any red dress or any kiss. This dance is all about challenge, daring to be individual and standing out and innovation - I feel like they really stepped it up this year, there are new lifts (so in tango character), movement is sharper, more precise, but having that softness too, edge work (especially Piper's) is really improved. Also the program, choreography itself is just a gem and a treat to watch - the construction, tension building, musicality and elements placement are just amazing beyond any words for me. And the ending sequence in this 'slow motion' style is giving me chills every time I see it, it's so perfectly placed and executed.

For me, this year they have the best 'tools' to work and present, showing their versatility, technique, presentation/interpretation skills and 'tools' which separate them from the rest and make them unique. Just wish they were more awarded, more appreciated by judges - Paris GP in terms of FD solely was a heartbreak for me as they lost to Hubbell/Donahue, but it's just me and my opinions...Anyway - we should keep calm and support our crazy fabulous PSquared!!!:cheer:

Here are some photos of Piper and Paul I took at Trophee de France last month:

It's always a priviledge to see them skate. OK the SD this time was not their finest hour, but they were still beautiful to watch - their programs are so unique, they totally commit to them (they are "in character" from the moment they step on the ice, right until they step off it). And of course they rallied magnificently in the FD...

Love those two...

Rewatching Skate Canada International 2016 Short and Free Dance and I'm so impressed again with the edges and the complex choreography! They are so fun to watch!

Thank you Doris. :thank: Clicking on the above link produced a 404 error for me but this link seems to work for me:http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5...-poirier-2017-skate-canada-challenge-sd_sport. Thank you for posting about the event and the link which made it easy to find. Gilles/Poirier SD was one of my favorites this season. I was happy to see it skated again and probably closer to how they wanted to see it skated. Thank you again .

I know YOU challnege with Piper & Paul: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XAAfvX6594 :) So it's not a coincidence Paul twits about food so often!

Hilarious...and it's great to see them dropping into TVO kids afterschool/afternoon programming in "the Zone'...

TV Ontario is the provincial public broadcaster, but it's reach is fairly national in Canada. If you have kids of an age to watch PBS programming, you will likely find TVO is the Canadian-side funder.

..Glad TVO is reaching out to Ontario skaters, but kudos also to Piper and Paul for getting down the studio and being good sports.
