Pogorilaya Left Off of WTT Contingent

I think people are more concerned if she can make it to Olympic. I love Anna and I want to see her at Olympic. But this WC makes it very hard for her. :sad21:

I don't think so.

She has a good ranking position and two very high PBs: at the end of the day she bombed just the free skate at Worlds, the rest of the season was nearly perfect. We should look forward: after 2015 Worlds here it was all about the "Pogo falls" "her career is basically gone" "she is the next Ksenia Makarova" blablabla. and then she won the bronze the year later (perhaps deserving the silver) so she can recover from that.

On the other hand the Federation here is very smart: there's no doubt Evgenia Medvedeva is the first choice going into 2018 Olympics, but the second and the third spot are wide open and to be fair, Elena Radionova was very close to make the world team again this season, and meanwhile she won the Universiade.

You have to admit the judging on Anna's skates is confusing though. I think that she started with a perfect showing at Rostelecom but got much higher scores later at different competitions, when she, in my opinion skated less good than there. And with higher scores comes higher anticipation. You kind of expect, if you skate clean, that you score the same or higher as the season goes on. For Anna that didn't happen. If you scored 74 and then suddenly you're back at 71, while you know that the leader will have an almost 80 score in the SP, it is disappointing. I'll bet that's true for every skater, not just Anna.

Well, to be fair, she erred on the 3L, hence the point differential. I also thought overall she was a bit tighter compared to Euros in her SP, and the look at the end was relief more than anything.

As harsh as it is to say, she should have gotten hammered wayyyy more on PCS in her FS. The second half looked like she was about to stop skating, and she was going through the motions - obviously the errors broke her, and she no longer interpreted the program because she knew it was over. The 2A+3S was a nice way to save face and show some fight, but prior to that, oh man, the struggle. was. real. :(

Well, Anna's always had to fight for her spots on the World team and even if she performed well here, it is still going to be difficult for her to make the Olympic team with Radionova and Zagitova and Sotskova (and then you have Tukt and Sot who can comeback).

I totally understand if it's about her meltdown. WTT is more of a happy event, not a super serious competition like Worlds. Better send someone who's not struggling so much, it's hard to watch. Meantime, she can rest.
