(Before the skate I was surely a bit nervous because I understood – so far I’m in intermediate first place and I need skate clean as the girl won’t give me the win without fighting. So during my performance I tried to be concentrated on every element, I understood that I need do all perfectly, then after the skate I was surely very glad)

Tsurskaya playing chess while others play checkers
Russia's Polina Tsurskaya won the event with 195.28 points, 11 more than her teammate, Maria Sotskova (184.01 points), and almost 17 more than Honda, who earned 178.64 points.
Tsurskaya, 14, is a skater you can trust: As soon as she started her routine, you knew she would not make a mistake. She mastered her whole program, skated to the soundtrack of Chess, from its first to its last note. She went from one jump to the next without one hesitation or undue movement. She set the tone with her opening triple lutz-triple toe-double toe, and landed all of her subsequent five triples.
"I was a little nervous at first, but I did not want to let that show. I'm working a lot on consistency at home," she said. "Altogether, I'm really happy with this victory. I want to express my gratitude to my parents and fans and coaches, who support me every day."
She amassed 128.59 points for her free program

Polina Tsurskaya: I came to Barcelona to win
***
Q: You said the junior-ish skating differs from the senior. But today there was a feeling that you showed a senior skating. Do you agree?
A: No. I won't refuse the words. After all I have a junior-ish skating. I don’t have a little pressure, capacities, confidence, understanding of movements.
***
Q: You skate this program for the second season. Is it possible to say this partly helped to achieve the good result?
A: Quite perhaps. But I think the confidence turned out to be consequence of good trainings, of great work. I prepared to the final very diligent. And the first half of the season was devoted to preparation.
***
Q: You participated together with a figure skater from your group Zhenya Medvedeva here. What advice did she give to you before the start as she won the last season junior final in Barcelona?
A: Zhenya told me what a situation is here that there isn't anything terrible here cause it‘s an usual event. We compete the third year with Masha (Sotskova) and Alisa (Fedichkina) at the other several events. Zhenya told: "Be sure, you are the best!".
***
Q: Has it really helped?
A: Yes, because Zhenya is my good friend. I trust her. She is more skilled athlete.
***
Q: Nevertheless, did you expect that everything will develop so successfully?
A: Of course, I came here to win because I reached the final as a first number. It means I could win. Many thanks to coaches who helped me with everything. After the free skating Eteri Georgiyevna praised me, but she also told that I relaxed during the last rotation. I’ve done all the jumps, made all the most difficult, there was one position only and I relaxed. Of course, it is my defect. Plus I was clamped in the program from time to time, by her words. We will work.
***
Q: Will the victory in the JGPF give you this confidence, this pressure and power?
A: It seems to me that the pressure and power will come over the years, with performances, trainings. And the confidence depends on number of skates, executed jumps on training, on stability.

Polina Tsurskaya: “I tried to run with a tape too, but I liked to skate more”
The Russian figure skater Polina Tsurskaya became a real discovery of the Junior Grand Prix of the current season. She won two stages of the series with big advantage, and on Saturday she also confidently won the final
In the interview to the observer of Sovsport.ru Andrey Simonenko the 14-year-old athlete told about how she was adjusted to the “mini-World Cup” in Barcelona, why in Omsk where she was born and lived till 2013 she didn't go in the footsteps of her well-known compatriots Irina Chashchina and Evgenia Kanayeva, shared the feelings of Moscow and of work in Eteri Tutberidze's group, and also admitted that she is shy
– Polina, what thoughts did you go to the final of "Grand Prix" with? It is your debut on a competition of such high level after all.
– I didn't wind myself and tried not to remind myself that it is such an important competition. I said to myself that it is an ordinary event, and if I skate clean, quite perhaps I will win.
– But actually was it important?
– Of course. I think the same girls will be the main rivals at the Junior Worlds. There are else strong competitors though.
– Did you expect such a take-off in the current season? Those convincing victories at both stages of Grand Prix, in the final…
– I prepared for the season and I understood that all in my forces. To be honest, I didn't understand yet that I won the JGPF. There is no pleasure of the victory yet for some reason.
– Quite recently you have been trained in native Omsk which is known not for figure skaters, but for …
– Gymnasts.
– How did it happen, you’ve got to figure skating?
– I was a vigorous child, I have been ran, jumped constantly. There was a skating rink near the house, and parents decided to take me away there that I was occupied with something in the afternoon. Then my first coach quit and I passed to another coach and then I started learning double jumps. At some point we’ve understood if to move to Moscow it’s possible to achieve progress.
– Do you remember the first steps on ice?
– By myself - no, but mother told that I got up on ice and ran. I ran-ran and fell. I didn't started to cry as many other children, but I laughed, I got up and I ran further. What I remember, I didn't like to do the Arabesque spiral.
– Why?
– I don't know… I just didn’t like this element.
– And what did you like to do?
– To jump.
– Feeling of flight?
– More likely it was interesting. I watched on TV as others jump and I wanted to learn the same.
– Whom did you especially admired by the TV?
– Alexey Yagudin, Evgeny Plushenko, Irina Slutskaya …
– Are these people your idols?
– No, I have no idols. I want to be myself. Also I want that others sought to be similar to me.
– Didn’t you ever cross with gymnastics in Omsk?
– I did. We have very good acquaintances in gymnastics, and a girl who have been competing at the World Cup in rhythmic gymnastics, Margarita Kamynina, invited me to training. I ran with a tape, with a jump rope, with other its subjects there.
– When was it?
– I was 4 years old, maybe 5.
– Why didn’t you go to rhythmic gymnastics?
– I liked to skate more. And besides I was not really stretched in the childhood. And not flexible enough.
–Was it difficult to leave the hometown?
– Of course. At first we moved to Moscow only with my father, while my mother lived one and a half years in Omsk. My grandmother and my grandfather remained there, also did my very close friends, my brother, my dog. But a year ago my mother moved to us, and then we moved my dog [
]. Now all it seems to be easier.
– Many people don’t like Moscow…
– I always not really liked Moscow, honestly speaking. The noisy, big city, dirty somehow … Since the childhood it so happened that I most often came to Moscow either in the fall, or in the spring, thus I fell in the slush.
– And winter in Moscow not the same as in Omsk.
– Yep, in Omsk it is cold, but snow is such beautiful-beautiful. In Moscow, of course, winter doesn't impress.
– It’s not the word, you don't go skiing much with this global warming.
– And there are ski slopes in Omsk near the city. Before moving to Moscow I have been skiing for six years in a row. It turned out good.
– That’s it was necessary to choose between figure skating and skiing, was it?
– I skied without coach, my father taught me. It was just a hobby.
– Why did you decide to come to Eteri Tutberidze's group?
– My parents chose, they told that by their opinion Eteri Georgiyevna is the best coach. I wasn't against it, I just wanted to continue skating, to achieve a progress. They called Eteri, she told – come to a viewing for three days. If it was less, she can't manage to understand me. We’ve arrived. And in the first day after two trainings she told that takes me in the group. I still skated the three days, then I went back to Omsk. Then I returned to Moscow already forever. So far everything goes well.
– Did it succeed to find a common language with the coach quickly?
– Generally I’m very constraining person, I’m afraid to make a contact. Therefore firstly it was difficult. And now, of course, I got used to the coach, to her character.
– Concerning the shyness didn't you talk with Adyan Pitkeev? He told he’s the same.
– No (laughing). We just communicate. In the group I communicate with all very well.
– Only on ice or you can descend together somewhere?
– We can, indeed. Just to walk usually. Moscow is a beautiful city.
– Probably, you have no free time at all?
– One day in a week. From eight a.m. to four p.m. I’m at school though. Then, if I still have any power I can only take a walk.
– Do you manage to combine study and figure skating in a normal way?
– I passed into Sambo-70 school which I represent and they help me there – somewhere they make me some indulgences when the trainings are coming, somewhere they tighten me in subjects if I don't know or don't understand something. I go to hand over only on Fridays.
– Polina, after the victory in the JGPF what are you going to dream now?
– For me the JGPF was one of stages on the way to dream. That dream is, as well as for many other figure skaters, the Olympic gold.
– Had you it always?
– No, it has appeared only close in a year after the moving to Moscow. Before it I just liked to skate.
