Nathan, you are correct. It wasn't about hate. It was about the glaring lack of any interest that Dave gave to Max and his new program. It may not be a big deal to Dave but, it is a HUGE deal for his fans. "Lot's of flailing Arms" is not a report......It's a snarky dig at one of my favorite skaters and a former US Champion. It's Dave lack respect that bothers me. His job at this point, should be to "Inform" us as to what is happening on the ice as these are just practice sessions. He can critique them when they're in competition. Just my opinion..

To be fair, Max's skating skills leave a lot to be desired and he doesn't have great transitions or step sequences. Jumps amd arms are all you typically note on his choreography.

All the ladies were at practice this afternoon, was worried after the sparse dance practice last night. Gracie looked tense and had some bobbles during her LP run thru. Everyone else in her group signed autographs but she ducked out.

Mariah Bell did her SP, I find her magnetic, my eyes kept following her thru out the session. Such a pretty, happy young woman (seems so much more adult than when I saw her in Milwaukee).

Mirai looks amazing, very serious until her final bows and then gave us her famous smile. Her 3-3 in the SP run thru looked iffy but rest of jumps looked ok to me.

Ashley's hair was shockingly dark, might fit her SP, but not a good color IMHO. Jumps not as clean as Raf would like from his body language after 3-3.

Other skaters a blur, did enjoy Caroline Zhang and Karen Chen, those 2 know how to spiral!

I have lamented US lady talent pool, but feel encouraged after the practice. I saw some really lovely moments today.

I don't think Dave "Hates" either one of them as I don't think he knows them very well. He does however, have a glaring lack of desire to find any of the plusses in Max's skating. He didn't win his championship or make last years world team by accident. He has continued to move forward and improve his skating and it takes "guts" to risk doing a brand new SP under the pressure of Nationals. That, in itself is a story.

In terms of skating skills, not much. But there is a reason why Max is changing his program. In terms of pure entertainment value, Adam wins. Max instead dragged out a dead interpretation of Nessun dorma for a second season as if he could trick the world into thinking that he was artistic. Adam also has shown that he works on issues. Adam's skating skills are improving (at the speed of a turtle), but this is more improvement than we have seen from Max in years. Adam also has a connection to his music and Max doesn't. Max isn't interpreting the music, the choreography, and is not connecting to the audience. I could probably go on, but that's the difference between their short program this season. Why are we talking about Adam anyway? Didn't break his leg or foot or knee or something.

So, What does Lots of Arms. Hand down 4S. 3A. 3Lz+2T....Tell you about Max and his new program? Right, Nothing. If Max were doing the same program from the GP (Like Jason is) there would be nothing new to report other than what he landed. But for a few clips on Instagram, This is a new and unseen program by Max and that, IMO, is the reason I wish he'd given a real report on his new program and how it was received by the crowd.

For me, I have always appreciated Dave Lease/Jennifer Kirk/The skating lesson. I have truly learned a lot from them, skating/technique-wise. But I also consider them more of an inside blogger/color commentary than impartial journalists. But most of the journalists who cover skating have a distinct point of view anyway.

I enjoy reading about the practice reports, so I thank everyone for reporting/posting links. I cannot wait to read more. I hope Ashley/Mirai make the world team!

well i dont think he means it out of malice, but if you look at his choreography and compare it to other skaters you definitely see a difference in usage of edge and transitions, and as far as i know he isn't the only one to speak out against it, i know that those very liberal hip teenagers that took over the worlds twitter last year also express that dismay towards max' skating, but it's never malicious or mean or towards the skater.

this is a sport and it should be judged as such, no one was talking badly about max and it seems fair game to talk about the quality of skating when discussing competitive skating competitions.

ive seen that team gracie gold twitter account talk worse about max than anyone on TSL or the hip liberal teenagers that took over worlds twitter do because she (team gg account) used personal remarks on max, not on his skating but as a person. now that's condescending. she said things like "Ew" w/ the sick person emoji and stuff, and gracie and carly actually liked some of those tweets. i dont know what happened between them but that doesn't seem very nice of either of them.

I don't know what you mean by "even" Patrick (from Patrick Commentates ...) has criticized ...

IMO, Patrick is not some kind of saint who is nothing but supportive of any and every skater.

IMO, Patrick seems to enjoy snarking (in general) every bit as much as Dave Lease enjoys snarking (in general).

yeah that's who i was referring too! i forgot his name lol i just remember his clique on twitter always throwing shade at max though and i think karne is a part of that little clique too (well ive seen them reply/retweet her if i remember correctly)

he & his clique throw shade at gracie gold a lot, too. calling her "mayo" and subtly talking ill about her w/o mentioning her name (dont get me started on that tumblr post the eggroll person made about how "wow it almost seems as if she would have won something of international renown by now with the way usfs treats her" and all that snarky/rude stuff)

but i guess people like karne view him and his friends as the "nice guys" so i thought it was an apt example to use of "nice guys who also critique max on his choreography" thing because some people just love to vilify others

It says exactly what it says. Which doesn't include the "flailing" part that you edited out of your original post and that you erroneously attributed to the author of the tweet.

Well, I've just had a look at that account and it's basically a typical Yunafan account, spreading slanders about Adelina, writing rubbish about "right podiums" and so on, so it's to be expected that they would take personal shots at a skater.

Actually, I am not "part of that little clique". You'll remember that I was one of the ones on here criticising their brainless screaming at Skate America for Ashley's and Adam's completely empty short programs. Patrick has made it quite clear his only interest in Max is the view from behind, and he is quite happy to continue spreading misinformation about him, so why would I consider myself part of his "clique"?
