The short should definitely be Kimmie's greatest concern. She doesn't want to get into a 12-point deficit (which is very possible if she scores 58 and Mao scores 70). OTOH, if Kimmie skates first in the long and does really well, she can put additional pressure on Mao to deliver, which may work in her (Kimmie's) favor. Of course, the converse is also true. And while we talk about Meissner/Asada there's still Kim and Kostner who will challenge for a medal.

I'm leaning towards bronze for KM as well.

While I'll be pleasantly surprised if Kimmie wins Worlds '07, I would be shocked and in total awe if Kostner were to beat her for a spot on the podium... Out of all the skaters being tossed around as "best chance to medal," I don't put Caro in that catergory... more like "best chance to medal if the top five have major meltdowns"

For the record, I always thought that Sasha Cohen was always more consistent than she was given credit for .

I agree. And one thing about Sasha that is rarely noted is that she almost never, ever popped a jump. If she planned a triple, that's what she went for.

I also agree that Meier is consistent. She's put together a lot of solid 4-5 triple programs. Not that I think that will be enough for the podium, but I do think it's quite consistent.

I hope everyone skates well-- there's are a lot of planned triple/triples and triple axels among the women. I hope we get to see them! I don't care who wins, I just hope for great skating.

Mao did fall out on her 3A! Miki was still trying her quad. Kimmie fell on her 3+3 combo.

Was it just the problem with the angle, I found Kimmie could not get her usual jump height in this clip.

Thanks to everyone who is posting reports or videos.

I am trying not to get to excited about the women's event, but this could be the most technically difficult Worlds since the old Yamaguchi/Ito/Harding era: many women doing triple axels and/or the more difficult 3/3s. I hope they all go clean.

Mao had a runthrough practice of FP. Later she tried 3A four times, all were successful. She looks very satisfied and confident.

I am not a technical expert, but that quad looked short of rotation to me.

No me neither-Costner is a non factor I think. However, watch out for Julia S. and or Alissa Cz.-if either girl is "on" watch out-Julia has spectacular jumps and Alissa can be equally awe inspiring.

Too bad about YuNa as she is or perhaps was, a very special talent. Never have I seen a jumper cover such distance over the ice (jumps) or spin in the air (again, in her jumps) so fast as YuNa. She was amazing to watch if only for the most impressive jumping technique I've ever seen.

Hey, Yu-na's not dead! According to Korean news, Yu-na's back isn't the problem that's getting better. She just injured her tailbone, and its going to take awhile to recover, but she'll recover.

Yu-na is hardly the first skater to have a back injury... This doesn't mean her career is over, if she takes precautions.

Mao means business, she always goes for the 3 axel. Miki sometimes goes for the quad. Now, whether or not its wise for Miki especially to go for the quad, is another story.

Well, Joubert says he can change his mind about a quad in mid-air, so hopefully Miki has learned to do that as well and will do so if necessary.
