Longhornliz said:I thought the comment that 90% of canadians would not vote for bush if he ran in your country was a little silly.... how many americans do we think would vote for a canadian? I like Canadians, but I would cross party lines before voting for one over an American.
On national public radio the other night they were discussing how the US is finally ready to move on from the fact that Canada did not send troops to join the allied forces... Could some of you Canadians shed light on what specific beef you have with bush and America? Yall obviously have opinions and issues that concern you, but I am ignorant to them. Oh and another thing... is Canuk a derrogitory term?
Well, you might want to a little homework and see what our issues are with Bush. He ignored us completley when he made his thank you speech to the countries who came to the Americans aid after the 911 attack for starters. Canada was the first country - being your neighbour - to open its homes to stranded visitors all across our nation. In fact, I remember how willing people here in Vancouver and the lower mainland were to take in stranded Americans when their planes were grounded here. Also our firefighters and police Officers took up pledges and raised large sums of money to send to NY as well as volunteering to work at ground zero. So it would not have hurt our relations so much if Bush had said "thanks Canada" right at the start - not waiting for two years to pass before doing so.
Then there are the trade issues - softwood lumber (concerns British Columbia, where I live) and the Mad Cow problem. Both issues have caused financial burdens for Canada.
These are just a few of the issues. I have to sign off for now, but encourage you to research the topic further.
