Today I was watching various performances of Joannie Rochette's 2004-2005 FS to Firebird. I love that program and it's my favorite of Joannie's. I think David Wilson's choreography was perfect for her.

So I was wondering, are there other programs that he has choreographed that have struck a similar chord with anyone else? I've noticed I've been rewatching a lot of programs he has choreographed and since I usually don't pay attention to the choreographer of a certain program I feel like I might be missing some of his great work.
 
I agree that David's choreography in Firebird was right on. I think all the work he has done over the years for Jeff is so perfect for Jeff's style and the music. That is an example of a great partnership. Of course his program to Romeo and Juliet he did for Sasha was beautiful, but she makes anything beautiful.
 
Honestly, I've yet to go totally ga-ga over any of his work. At the moment I can't think of any that I particularly like. Definitely way too much face-stroking in his stuff, and I HATE face stroking in programs, it always looks fake and forced.
 
What I like about Wilson's choreography is that he uses the skating vocabulary with personal touches. Like Lee Ann Miller's work there is a freshness about the programs. They are not just like the tired old routines which I see in so many competitions.
 
David Wilson's work definitely stands as an example of how some of the 'constraints' of the CoPs judging system can still be overcome to generate programs which have depth and still satisfying individuality.

While he struggled a bit with it at times, I loved the Jeff Buttle Glenn Gould program. Samson/Delilah also had some truly musical connecting elements that managed to convince me that this music is not just better suited for skating by more than one (i.e., a dance or pair).

I liked very much the Tristan und Isolde, but Wagner is not easy to skate to (much too emotional} I can not blame Jeff for dropping it.
 
I am a huge fan of his work.

Choreography is always a tricky thing. For instance, I can spot a Morozov program miles away same as a Bezic program. There are certain qualities that are often repeated no matter who skates it.

When I first saw Joannie's Firebird, it was magical. The music selections were different and the choreography had a newness to it. I may not be able to explain clearly what I am about to describe but, there seems to be a counter-balance to his choreography. If you notice with Firebird he use the standard opening piece that so many people have done to close out the program. The toe work was brilliant and yet so simple, really nothing out of this world but very effective. It also helped a lot that this was Joannie's banner year and she skated this program full out each time.

Nichols is a different story. I feel that her programs made Kwan a star. She always managed to create a new look for her each and every year. However, no one else has really stood out other than Sale and Pelletier with her choreography.

It was his first attempt at ice dance choregrahy. I would say "he hit one out of the ball park with this one. I can watch this program over and over and it still leaves me speechless.

Of course I love all of his work done with Jeff and Joannie.
I would love him to create a program for Shawn Sawyer.

I absolutely adore that program, in my opinion so much better than anything Morosov ever did for her, and yes, I am including Carmen and Shehezerade. It's just such a beautiful program.

He definitely is a great choreographer, though Buttle and Rochette never really excited me, don't know why. I love his work for Kim and Ando though.
 
Oh yes, that's definitely Miki's best. Her only program where you can see some emotional vulnerability.

David Wilson has yet to create a program I don't like, and face stroking programs annoy me to. I don't see any of that in his work. Morosov is another story.
There's something about Wilson choreo that always seems to connect with the music and the skater, he has a style, but it's not as obvious as other choreographers because he seems to use more skater imput than most other choreographers.

Wilson is like the KING of face stroking. And boring, too. Can't stand watching his stuff.

Agree completely. This program transformed this couple, giving them a 'signature' aspect to their skating. Somewhere in Time is wonderful music, that can either "cover" for a less artistically inclined skater... or completely elevate the performance qualities of the more gifted... this was a memorable case of the latter

Wow! Thank you to everyone who posted links, I really am loving a lot of these programs.

I think what I love most about his programs is that they look like a true collaboration between skater and choreographer. Everything just seems to fit perfectly and when skaters skate their best, the programs are near magical, at least for me.

Now I'm really curious as to what the program he choreographed for Kimmie Meissner's 07-08 FS, before she decided to go with "Nessum Dorma", looked like.
 
I loved Yu-Na Kim's LP "Miss Saigon" from last season that David choreographed.
