I loved Amanda's dress and I was very surprised to love it. The colors the decision to make a maxi dress - it shouldn't have worked. but for once, Amanda's "ugly-chic" style really worked for me. I'm curious to see if she can pull it off for all her looks in NYFW. The comment that Nina-the-taste-police made about the accessories Amanda chose was a reminder that Amanda still has a bit of a taste issue. However, she's fun. I'm glad she made it.

I want Kini's trench coat right NOW and, no, I don't think I could find it at Michael Kors. No, it's not exactly something new and original but honestly sometimes it actually it really hard to find something that simple and fabulous in the stores. I've seen a lot of trench coats. I haven't seen that one and I want it!!! I bet you anything other designers out there start ripping it off. I think you have to be really careful with denim not to make it look 80s and cheezy and that's exactly what his skirt looked like. In fact, I had a skirt just like that - denim with rufflles at the bottom when I was 11.

Sean - Okay, I'm sorry, I feel a bit provincial admitting it but I didn't get the white outfit at all. I've looked at it over and over again and I just don't get it. Can someone pls explain it to me? I liked it from the back a lot but from the front I didn't get what was so fabulous about it.

Char should have been out. Sorry, love her, but her looks were meh and not well made just like they mostly have been.

Korina - Too bad about her behavior. Sure, her looks have been stronger than Char's mostly but she's also hasn't been THAT great. (Certainly not as great as she thinks she is). So.... whatever. Better luck next time.

I didn't post anything about Thursday's show b/c couldn't get very excited about any of the looks, although agree that Kini's trench coat was really beautiful. The skirt killed it, though -- IMO he should have done something like a simple leather pencil skirt instead of all those ruffles. Come to think of it, I did absolutely love his re-do of Char's red dress, which probably could have walked off the runway right onto a red carpet.

What's driving me nuts more than anything else is all the manufactured drama. Also, Kini's construction skills notwithstanding, I doubt that any of this crop of designers would have made it past the first few challenges in earlier seasons. None of them really seem to have the kind of flair I used to look forward to seeing on PR. But that's JMO.

That wasn't Char's red dress, it was Mitchell's red carpet look. I thought Kini's look would have been better with a pant but it was the work that was put into his design.

The trench was lovely. I was thinking something Katharine Hepburnish for under it--linen pants, perhaps a turtleneck. But that skirt and blouse were heeeeeeeeeeeedious. On the other hand, his remake of Mitchell's dress was breathtakingly gorgeous, easily the best thing he's done all season, though again, I would have edited out the ruffles. Kini does have this unfortunate tendency to over-design and/or over-embellish.

About Sean's outfit. Yes, it is the only OTHER Wow! moment of the season so far for me. What makes it very special for me is the tailoring of the shirt part (the collar in particular and shoulders--and if you think that's easy to do, look at some of the previous menswear challenges from past seasons), along with the unusual pleating detail in the front of the skirt. Really beautiful and clean and crisp and yes, unusual. Same with the silhouette, which was quite unexpected for a skirt. It didn't just drop from the waist, but was architectural. The only problem I had with it was the reverse mullet hem (long in front, short in back). I just don't like mullets--either in hair in clothes. While I don't think it is the single best outfit ever made on the show, I do think that particular design could hold its own against most of the best looks of previous seasons.

The rest, alas, was a snoozefest. Amanda's caftan was too heavy looking. I loved the color blocking, but really, it looked more wintery than summery. And while Char is basically a nice, down-to-earth person, she's had her moments of bitchery too. But lord, another tight pencil skirt with stuff attached. Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. And how did she manage to give an extremely simple and basic little black dress a fabric tumor?

Not only manufactured drama, but the whole "let's drag Korina's reputation through the muck over dinner" was just plain tacky. But then, so much of this season is the epitome of tacky. Tacky and bland.

Well onward we go, limply, to the finale. Given that they're sending them to Italy, I suspect we'll have one more challenge and they'll eliminate one more designer before NYFW.

that's a good point about Amanda's caftan looking more wintery than summery. Summer clothes with winter fabrics are one of my pet peeves... on the other hand, it worked well on the runway. Just wonder how wearable it really is.

Well, I wasn't impressed by Amanda's preview looks in yesterday's episode. I liked some of them okay and the jewelry was fantastic but I thought the black and white knit dress was boring. I think Amanda is a worker and very nice and reasonably talented but just that.

I actually loved the way Sean used fringe but the judges convinced me when they noted that it can be a "crutch." Still, he's looking the best out of all them by far, not surprisingly. I'll be interested to see the whole collection. He's creative but in a cerebral way, not an emotional from-the-gut way and I don't know if that is good or bad.

I was shocked at how harsh they were on Kini! but again, they convinced me with their criticism that it was all too mature. Uh oh. After loving his trench last week I was surprised that he made such a sad one for his final collection. I just felt sorry for him. He must feel like he got hit by a speeding train.

I wonder how Tim feels about all of this! You would never have expected the judge's comments from Tim's critiques. He's been a bit out of sorts this season! I wonder if he just isn't inspired by this crop of designers deep inside.

I may be the only person but I like Char's looks, not so much as a collection but as designs. I didn't care as much for the white top and b/w skirt but I thought they were just OK.

I liked Kini's designs but not so much in the colors he chose...they're so drab. The model in the coat looked terrible and kind of looked drab herself. I wondered what the coat would look like cut shorter???

I felt so sad for Kini. I can appreciate what the judges had to say as they made suggestions and I think they really want him to do well. I really hope he can overcome his disappointing initial critique and wow them at FW. He's done well because he does take the advice to heart.

I agree that, in general, the talent on this season wasn't as impressive as prior seasons. For me, my favorites seasons were #3 with Mycheal Knight, Jeffrey, etc and the one with Christian Soriano and Chris March, etc.

Kini is sweet and has genuine skills, but those three designs were hideous--overdesigned, overelaborated. And what is it with his obsession with denim? I realize it's on trend, but I just can't see denim as a high end material. Even with the price of jeans being equivalent to illegal drugs. I actually liked 2 of 3 of Char's looks (the high-waisted skirt with the white top was just a big No for me). I liked Amanda's last look (and the jewelry is quite nice actually). But really the designs are just dull. Not awful. Dull. And dull is the kiss of death for fashion. Don't bore Nina...

It's anyone's game, but I bet Lifetime is setting us up for a "Redemption of Kini" win. Just a gut feeling.

I enjoy PR ..... I love watching people create....no matter what.

I agree that, in general, the talent on this season wasn't as impressive as prior seasons. For me, my favorites seasons were #3 with Mycheal Knight, Jeffrey, etc and the one with Christian Soriano and Chris March, etc.

I think my favorite season was with Christian & Chris March.

We get to see Chris March on the All Star show starting next week.

Christian is becoming a well know designer. I think the episode I liked best was when Christian designed the dress for the young gal that had her own thoughts about the design. She gave Christian a run for his money.

We may be surprised that Char is going to come up with this fabulous collection.

Those two season are by far my favorites too. Season 3 was great for the drama and personalities and the talent was good enough that it didn't feel empty. Plus there were some fabulous challenges and the trip to Paris was a classic. Vincent and his ridiculous, glued, backward dress.... aye. None of the seasons have lived up to the Christian Soriano season in terms of talent.

Yes. I liked Kini during the season, but he somehow just didn't deliver for the finale.

Amanda's stuff is either shapeless or mis-proportioned and I have yet to understand the judges' fascination with her. it was all drab as well.

Char didn't belong in the top four. But neither did Emily. Too bad Tim used his save so early. I think Fade should have got that benefit and made the finale.

Sean's collection was cohesive. He created an actual show with it. And there is, as the judges pointed out, risk and innovation there without crossing over into tacky land.

Kini's final gown may be the single most hideous garment from any finale. A denim and neoprene gown with football player shoulders, a fishtail, and a quilted jockstrap. Just read that description again and tell me there is anything tasteful about it. It sounds like a costume from a Carol Burnette episode. He has talents and skills, but the man cannot restrain his impulse to overwork everything to death. That first look, in black and white, with the flounced skirt. If he had done ten looks where design elements were balanced and proportional, he could have been in it to win it. Or go high glam like he did with that fabulous red gown. But this finale collection was just a train wreck of bad taste and overdesign.

Char had some nice pieces and she used her fabric from Rome really well. But she's not a runway designer. I really think she should pursue urban sportswear--that black and white dress she showed last week took elements of sportswear and elevated them. But the Fly top with the pencil skirt? Oh dear. Oh dear dear. And typical.

Amanda should study tailoring, because I agree--her stuff is shapeless and/or misproportioned. And she chooses the wrong fabric over and over. Essentially what she makes are funky winter muu-muus. Again, read that description over and tell me anything about it says high fashion. Some really nice jewelry designs, and I liked her knit print quite alot. Too bad she didn't use it better.

I called Sean one of the designers to watch from the first episode. It's a deserved win, but with reservations. I think his real talent lies in a kind of man-tailored minimalism for women. That draped white dress was also quite lovely (the orange was like a knockoff of it--they should have called him on it). If he just kept the final orange fringe dress and stuck to working with minimalist man-tailoring and draping, I think he really would have something. But I think he's another Daniel Vosovic--talent, yes, but in definite need of seasoning.

So, I think the judges did get the order right. But a drab and disappointing end to a drab and very disappointing season.

I couldn't disagree more. I would wear most of Amanda's clothes and all of her jewelry. Some of Kini's but none of Sean's. I think he has been over rated all season. The only placement the judges got right was Char's. Can't wait for All Stars!

High fashion is not always about what we would wear.

And I would highly recommend that no woman with an average body type put on anything Amanda made. That maxi dress on the last challenge added about 75 lbs to a model that was probably a size 0 and in the 6' tall range. What exactly do you think that would do to you? One of her models on the finale looked like she had absolutely enormous hips. Runway models don't have any hips to speak of. Again, what do you think that would look like on you if you have an average woman's body with even a slight curve to the hips?
