Question about pairs lifts

In an extended lift, when the man is skating down the ice, is he on an edge? Are there rules, or levels, about what he should be doing with his feet, such as turns, etc.

All I can say is I am always on edge when I watch pairs do lifts.

Lifts have to rotate (the man). However, for one lift, the rotation can be interrupted by a carry. The carry part of it does not have to be on an edge. The carry can be at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end.

I think that the man's footwork is pretty much a universal standard other than the variations wer see now when the man is in a spread eagle or has one leg raised etc. But for for the basic rotating lift, the man does a series of mohawks and foward steps.

When turning, it is a bad thing if the guy is kicking up significant amounts of snow. So a nice edge rather than skating on flats is better, but not a specific requirement or a feature. It's a GOE issue.

If he's on one foot doing a long carry, or in a spread eagle doing a carry, etc, those would be features. Depending on other features, they might get an extra level for them.

It's also a safety issue. Maxim Marinin was known for his messy mowhawks, and we all know what happened there...
