ETA: Realised I asked a version of this question here in 2020, but I ended up not getting new skates or returning to skating regularly.
Returning skater here looking to solve a boot/blade conundrum. When I stopped circa 2002, I had jumps through double lutz and was skating in Harlick Finalists with MK Vantage blades. I also have a slightly older pair of Finalists with intermediate MK blades, which I skated on most regularly in the intervening years. Recently, I decided to try to skate more consistently. I went to a fitter in the Czech Republic where I live (I grew up skating in the States) and got Edea Chorus with Gold Seal blades.
I have been working with a coach since late December and have gotten my axel and double sal back and am rotating other doubles. I am still skating in the Finalists (several specialists have looked at them and said they are ok - for now - but obviously this situation is not sustainable), because I have not been able adapt to the new setup (I skated exclusively in the Edeas after I got them for a couple of months, switched to the old boots to skate outside and was amazed by how much better I felt). After doing some additional research and talking to a few more technicians and skaters who attempted similar equipment transitions, it seems that the difference between my old and new setups is probably too great and I likely need to sell the Edeas and get something closer to what I'm used to. More Harlicks are not an option due to the waiting time / difficulty with them being based in the US.
I’m 5'5''/165 cm, 115 lbs/52 kg and have a Greek foot. I do not plan to compete. I am interested in contemporary figure skating and performing in hybrid dance/skating events (I've already done one of these), so my primary focus is on improving my edges and skating skills to have more choreographic/improv options, but I also like to jump.
I tried Risport when I got my Edeas (I cannot remember what model) and found them incredibly uncomfortable. My foot did not suit Riedells as a teenager and I had one pair of SP-Teris (hard to break in, then very good) before switching to and staying with Harlick. I am also probably looking for a new blade, as I have been advised to sell the lightly used Chorus/Gold Seal set up as is, rather than keeping the blades and just selling the boots, so I would also appreciate blade suggestions. My coach recommends seeing a fitter in Germany, so also looking for recommendations there, especially of shops with options beyond Edea/Risport. Thanks very much!
