Rhythm Dance for 2026-27

My favourite is Khachaturian's Masquerade, yes probably commonplace but I have loved it from a small child and that small child still rules :)
i'm pretty sure we'll see a lot of it next season
Can we have the most outrageous, 19th century inspired costumes, please
YES i have an award to run
I'd love to see some 18th century fashion myself; I quite enjoy cravats, embroidered jackets, outrageous hairstyles, and ruffled skirts!
when men were dressed like peacocks and less was...less

This is what all the skaters were asking for at the last US Nationals! Someone posted it on here. They all said, I'm probably the only one, but I want to waltz! Internationally, I know at least Gleb Smolkin was expressed this wish. Mostly, my hope is that the pattern (or partial pattern?) is used to make the scoring clearer. Will commentators and replay show random lifts and smiling faces? Or will they actually use the pattern to show the difference in scoring and quality amongst skaters? Will the scoring accurately reflect the quality of steps in the pattern? This is probably too much to wish for, but, hey, I'll go for it.

I hear that quite often Dancers will double count, giving an effect beat of 93 bpm.
If they're skating the standard set pattern dance, they'll be doing it with this timing, regardless of which specific tune is playing at that tempo:

An alternate music choice:

watching Tessa and Scott here was so good for my ice dancing heart after all the non-sense of the last few years. thanks

All those who complained that 120 bpm was too hard will not like this.

It is 162 bpm for the Westminster

and 186 bpm for the Golden.

Both Madison Chock and Evan Bates competed in 2009-10, though with other partners, so they have competed the Golden Waltz.

Paul Poirier competed as a senior in 2009-10, but with another partner. Piper Gilles was in Juniors with another partner.

Charléne Guignard and Marco Fabbri were in juniors.

But all three teams have done a lot of compulsory dances in their time.

Now I am hoping they all compete next year 💞💞💞 !!

And Anthony Ponomarenko's parents invented The Golden Waltz. I saw it at 1987 Worlds.

I hope he and Christina get to compete next year, too!

Anthony's parents not only did the Golden Waltz but also skated the Westminster Waltz one season. Looking on you tube they where the so elegant & graceful, all the teams should view it.

Like most of you, my mind immediately went to Vienna ballrooms as the inspiration. And, God willing, we'll see plenty of that.

But, just for kicks, I googled "contemporary songs in 3/4 time" and it's an interesting list. Music by Billy Joel, Beatles, Hank Williams, Queen, Metallica, Sonny and Cher, and more. Now, I'm not music-smart enough to decipher beats per minute (or even if all 3/4 tempo music is a waltz or can be made a waltz), but this list is evidence enough to me that an inventive couple can go off-script and create something really special.

And I'm just perverse enough to want a little Hank Williams and Metallica and Sonny and Cher sprinkled in amongst the Strauss.

There's some bad news, though. Hallelujah is on that list, too.

And this doesn't EVEN get into all those classic country "Somebody done somebody wrong" songs. Here's the one and only Patsy Kline (1948) -- plus free choreography ideas from the background dancers.

(Actually I think Halleluyah is in 6/8, as is Sonny and Cher's "Babe" :( )

Ah, well, Lord Google says 3/4 time, but I'm not smart enough to argue. I don't even know the difference between 3/4 and 6/8. My math brain says the latter reduces to the former, so they must be the same. LOL

But I am absolutely onboard with any endeavor that includes Patsy Kline.

I'll match your Patsy treat with one from Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty... and young people, believe me when I say they were an iconic not-romantic couple that you'd swear were... Maybe you had to be there. "I Still Believe in Waltzes" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQOEZpitL_Y&list=RDoQOEZpitL_Y&start_radio=1

Hallelujah: I've seen the score in 12/8.

So four beats of dotted quarters. Doesn't sound like three beats of quarters... But some people get fooled by complex time thinking they hear simple 3/4 because of the ternary subdivision of the beats... But the reality is that it won't work for waltz. No way around it.

The Tennessee waltz is probably way too slow. It could be sped up but I am guessing nobody would care enough to do that because it is not worth it
