Rika Hongo

Good luck to Rika at Moscow!

Here's a video of a TV program yesterday; Rika revealed that her "partner" is her skate notebook, in which she puts down the advice she received from others in order to keep reminding herself of them. She also wrote that she hoped to get 65+ in SP and 125+ in LP in the notebook (I guess this was taken before CoC), as we all know she cleared both goals already!

Wonderful! Good luck to her tomorrow! :cheer:

nothing or noone can break her, she just goes on to the ice and deliver!! good luck Rika! :cheer:

I just took a look at Rika Hongo's 2013 JWC performance and the improvement she's made within just 2 short years is astonishing. You never know when someone is going to improve by leaps and bounds.
Can she be called a late bloomer? I don't know, since she's still only 19, but anyway. I'm so excited for her at COR. Gambare Rika-chan!

Yes... the first time I "noticed" Rika, was when she was shedding bitter tears of disappointment in the kiss & cry at 2013 JWC. Just wanted to give the poor girl a hug. And the same thing happened (only worse), after her SP at the 2014 JWC's one year later - she was so upset.

But she stepped back, looked at what she needed to fix... set some goals, and made a plan of action to reach them.

Within 6 months, she'd made big improvements, and started building consistency, confidence and momentum... setting new PB's at pretty much every successive competition... and finishing the season having achieved a GP-series gold medal, a place at the GP final, 2nd at Japan Nationals, and ranked 9th in the world standings.

Yes, it's astonishing. And of course, she's not done yet - she's still working hard to keep improving. She has a great attitude.

She already reached her goal for this year, of 190 points total (195+), but I think she can improve on that - she's still losing quite a few points from her "!" or "e" Lutz edges for a start... and there's room for GoE and PCS to grow if she can polish her programs some more.

Hoping for clean skates at CoR this weekend...! Go Rika!

Pleased to hear she's in good shape, I want her to keep the CoR title! Gonna be hard, of course, but not totally impossible. We'll see how everyone will be doing.
More than everything, I want to see her going to Barcelona.
Go Rika! :cheer:

Last season I wasn't a fan of Rika's programs, but both her SP and FS from CoC left me like this -> :eeking:

Go girl, get that ticket for Barcelona! :hap10::hap85:

Wishing Rika the best of luck at Rostelecom! She did amazing last year; I'm hoping she can perform even better this time! Especially since her programs are a lot better this season in my opinion :)

Crossing my everything for Rika to make it to GPF.

Gosh, I think Rika is a girl skater I want the see the most in the GPF, she's my favorite so far this season, even ahead my former fav Pogo.

I think that Rika has good chance go to final.

Good luck to Rika! I'll be cheering for her even though I'll probably be sleeping while she's skating. :hap10:

I am so frustrated by Rika's score! I think she was lowballed big time :dev2::devil::disapp: I hope she fights back stronger than ever in the long!
