Risport Electra vs Jacksons for an Adult

So, to preface, I am an adult beginner who has been skating in the Jackson Softech series for almost a year. My boots currently have nothing left to them. I’ve been fitted twice for new boots, as I am beginning to move a little into more edge work and have started my Waltz jump. I fit comfortably into a Debut 5.5 C (wide), and am looking to get either a Freestyle in the same size or a maybe a Debut, but have recently also started considering the Electra Light. I am 120 LBS, 5’ 6,” and skate ~3 hours a week.

Not a single shop near me (as in hours away) supplies Risport, so I am really struggling to figure anything out about these boots. I have been looking to buy second hand; my budget is *tight.* Unfortunately I’ve had a hell of a terrible time with the Jacksons I mentioned above, but have come across some reasonable Electras which is why I am considering them.

So, my question is, are the Electra Lights too soft for what I weigh and what I aspire to do? I cannot afford to continually upgrade boots as I move up in levels, but if they would support me through singles and some more advanced spins, I think that would be good enough.

Hi and welcome. Electra Lights are too soft as are Debut for you. You should have never been in a softtec. I am sorry about your budget but I always advise about second hand skates, b/c you don't know how the other persons foot fit them and what the boot has been through with their foot in it. It may be mostly broken down at this point and you'd just be wasting your $. I would not be jumping in any of the boots you mentioned.

So, in order to suggest to you correctly a boot/blade and proper fitter: Where are you in this world? Also, what is your foot type? Also arches: Very high/high/normal/low/flat?

Once we have the info we can make suggestions.

I’m in the US. I’ve got very Egyptian/pointed feet, narrow heels, and high arches.

Hi. You are welcome! The damaged to the boot that I'm talking about is not something you will be able to see personally, just FYI.

With Egyptian feet I would suggest a Riedell, Edea or Risport Royal line (Royal Pro would be lowest stiffness). For Edea I would suggest Overture.
Riedell Stride.

Be aware that you will need a blade in addition to these boots (whichever ends up working for your feet). MK Pro or JW Coronation Ace are fine (traditional style only).

You never mentioned where you are in the world so we can suggest a proper fitter for you.

@Ic3Rabbit has already said pretty much what I'd advise re boot models and basic blades. They would all last you long enough at your level and the amount of time you'll be skating that the cost would be, over their lifespan, the same as several replaced pairs of lower-cost skate sets. Plus they are stronger boots that would make learning gradually more advanced elements easier and safer for you.

Used skates may look in like-new shape on the outside, but they've been shaped inside by their previous owner's warm feet. You'd have to actually compare your and their feet shape right up to the ankle to be sure they would fit you snugly. I'm sure you already know that, unlike with street shoes, it's not just the length and width of your soles that matters in getting a good fit. That's the advantage of being measured by a competent fitter at a good skate shop. You said you're in the USA -- could you narrow that down to the nearest city to where you live? People here on GS know the best places to shop in just about any state. Good luck!

I have tried Edea Overture and do not like how loose / open the heel is. I will take a look at the other brands but sadly no Risports exist near me. Any idea if the heels on those are any tighter? Overtures are 55 stiffness I notice. You think anything lower than that would be too light?

I’m in Colorado and I’ve been fitted twice by a fitter recommended to me by my coach already, though I wasn’t very pleased with their advice. They told me to go with Artistes, which I was frustrated by and disagreed with, as I’ve seen they’re only 20-25 stiffness.

If you'd like I can suggest fitters in CO that do carry Risport and other brands. And yes 50/55 is going to be lowest stiffness for you.

For me, the 2 boots fit SO differently. The Jacksons are wider in the toe box, higher and narrower in the heel. The Risport Electras are quite narrow, they are narrower than the RF3/Royal Pros. I used to get constant arch pain in the Risports, got bunions from those skates, changed into the Jacksons and the problems stopped.

Stiffness wise, I didn’t think the Electras were ‘to soft’, however my jumps were instantly higher after I got the Premieres, so I was wrong

You had issues with the Electras b/c they are now built like the Royal Line and those are like Edea's and more narrow. Glad that you are happy with your Jackson!

Thanks to your recommendation, and for the blades too! I got the MK pros on your advice (almost went with legacy 8 as I wasn’t sure about changing rocker size), my footwork progressed a lot faster.

Out of curiosity, I had the older Electras (wooden heel), are they the narrow ones?
