Roman Sadovsky

13th place after the short at nationals. Really tough skate, the jumps just weren't working for him at all today :(. I wonder if this'll finally inspire him to make a coaching change? I like Tracey but sometimes it's just time to move on. Either way, wishing him good luck for the free skate tomorrow. At least the crowd was really supportive of everyone today.

I've been joking about him going to Switzerland for a while 😅 We don't know if he'd even consider a change inside Canada.
Oh boy. He will be closing the first group tomorrow and I hope he can skate the FS without the pressure of defending anything.

I'd always thought Ravi Walia could be a good fit, or maybe back to Brian Orser? Brian seems to work best with skaters after they've already gotten to a high level with a different coach so maybe Roman just went too early? Plus he'd still be close to his family if that's why he doesn't want to move.

I think Brian said he wanted to cut down a bit? So Ilia partly, but after Nathan he did not wanted to be around as much as he was. But maybe I mix something up.

I think you’re talking about Rafael Arutyunyan, not Brian Orser.

I agree Ravi Walia or Brian Orser seem like they could be good for Roman. Also, he would be training with other top skaters, which can sometimes be helpful.

ahh :scratch2: yeah possibly a mix up as I said.

Let's see. Others have to land things as well.

At least, as faar as we know, he's not injured in a way that might end his career or similar. So as long as he's healthy (and consideres a change in his environment, how small it may be), that's okay.

He actually did move to Brian Orser for the 2016/2017 season, but he had a rough skate at Nationals that year and finished 9th. He was injured around that time and Brian didn't want him to go on to Junior Worlds reportedly, but Roman disagreed, left the Cricket Club and went back to Tracey in March, competed at Junior Worlds and finished 17th. So not sure he could go back to Brian at this point. I agree Ravi Walia might be a good alternative, if he decides to keep skating. I wonder if they have tried a sports psychologist.

It's interesting that his less than ideal FS had been third in the free for a long time and ended up 5th or 6th iirc. That alone shows potential. And internationally his PCS are recognized.

Roman's not on the 4CC team and the second Worlds spot is still TBD. As much as I love Roman, if it were me I'd probably choose Conrad or Wesley. Roman has them both beat in PCS and he has more international experience, but if Skate Canada can't rely on Roman to also land his jumps then they're going to stop giving him chances eventually. It sucks but if having his season end at nationals again is what motivates him to turn it around, then I'm all for it.

I want Roman to switch coaches or at least get a sport psych so much. I understand loyalty, but what he has is not working and he needs a career change. He reminds me of what was happening to Johnny Weir when Johnny was refusing to leave his childhood coach. Roman has all the talent and skill but the consistency is just all over the map… or consistently flopping. I want to see him nail his programs and his current strategy isn’t working.

I hope he can figure it out and take the right steps. He deserves to make the changes necessary, his skating is too good to just give that up and leave it like it is.

Does Skate Canada have alternates lists? I'd put him there, just in case. Roman will continue to practice and with experience and PCS, he can be one of the better options to jump in if needed. You never know although I don't wish any problems on anybody.

Does Skate Canada have alternates lists?
They do have alternates, though they don't make a big deal of announcing them like the US does. Usually you find out who the alternates are from the official list of entries. Also, though the skaters may know the order that the alternates will be called in, that isn't announced publically. On the official list of entries, the entered skaters appear first, in alphabetical order, followed by the alternates, also in alphabetical order. So there isn't an official "first alternate" unless you count the alternate who comes earliest in the alphabet as "first".
