Russian Test Skates 2014

Yes I felt the same about Yulia, like ran after the music, didn't seem in control (regarding everything not only music)

breynows I agree that Adelina has A LOT of expression here but imo she has to do so.
If you choose such a loud, powerful and dramtic song like "Je suis malade" you have to perform just as dramatically and powerfully, otherwise the music will eat you up (see Pogorilaya)

Don't get me wrong i totally agree with you, she is doing a great job no doubt of it, it's just that it looks much more like an exhibition than a free skate (blame ISU) but like i said i really like it. What's wrong with pogo program? i love it

I'm referring to Anna's SP. She skates to music with vocals, a man sings with a very strong opera-like voice throughout the whole program. To me this music is overpowering her completely, a bit like it's crushing her, she skates well though, yes.

My opinion regarging Megapolis is that it's a quick paced music and that it needs... I'm trying to find a word that doesn't offend anyone, but I really think it needs a "musical" skater to work. It's a piece of music that I believe would fit Radionova (i.e) very well. If/When Yulia learns to skate along the music instead of with the music I will declare my love for the girl. I absolutely adore her programs from last season, but I wish she could skate to something light, or in this case, quick.

breynows, I think it felt like a funeral. Such a deep sad music and a skater that couldn't keep up with it.

First i thought je suis malade was going to be Adelina's Short program but ok :slink:
I loved Yulia music, much better than last year, can't say the same for her skating.
Radionova was good but i like the short program better
Adelina i really like this program, but is so much expression that it looks kind of fake
Liza is amazing, she made me like her again, loved both programs.
Not even comparable. Last year she skated to unique russian classic masterpiece. This year it's just some generic light melody.
I agree with the skating part of your comment tho.

Bazarova doing footwork before the jumps and her jumps seems synchronized? ;)

And hasn't she managed to become even more beautiful overall?
I can't say how happy I am for Vera. Of course they still need some work, but for such a new pair they have incredible chemistry and the way they move fits together so well. And they look so happy!

And damn, the russian ladies sure look great! Overall, I'm very happy with those new programs.
Adelinas "Je suis malade" didn't really "click" with me before at The Ice, but I really liked it now (minus that weird foot-thing during the spiral). Very excited now to see the whole program.
I can't say I like Radionovas programs, but the way she sells them, I don't care. She looked gorgeous with her SP dress and hair, and even a little grown up compared to last season. Her LP is something new for her and really proofs her versatility (in case anyone doubted that).
Not sure about Lizas SP, but her LP is great! Her arm and hand movements are perfect for the music, and after she had really gotten into the performance I couldn't stop smiling. The dress looked a little weird to me at the beginning, but I liked it in motion and it suited her really well. Plus, she looks gorgeous in violet!
Julias SP is a little more 'meh' to me. I don't really like the music, and up until now I don't really think it suits her. But that could easily change until the beginning of the season.
And it's great to see that Alena still wants to fight! She still knows how to sell her programs, although I'm not sure I like the LP.

Can't wait for the new season to start!

Oh yes... She synchronized her jumps with Andrei in 4 months, and couldn't do it with Yuri for...God knows how many years

I have to say though that even Yuri is looking much better with her new partner, and their elements look stronger.
I think it was a blessing in disguise for both of them.

I'm very curious to see how this develops. So many factors going into this skate had my expectations low. She has never taken off this much time in the summer and she just isn't in top form. I'm also afraid she isn't Eteri's top concern at the moment. I haven't seen her struggle to get out of her spins in years so her technical ability is a bit low making it hard to deliver what to me.....looks like a very difficult program. She seems to want to slow down too and hold things out like in her Romeo and Juliet skate the other day but you don't score points that way or at least....I don't think this program is designed this way. I'm willing to bet it will be much better by CoC and TEB. Hopefully she has been focused on a new FS the last week or so anyway which could be distracting her from Megapolis practice and also the Ice Show yesterday which I think she was brilliant in.

Honestly everybody seemed a bit sketchy and has things to work on. I think Radinova looks the best but that music is brutal and I'm starting to feel concern for her jumps but at least she looks like she is finally growing. I'd put her as the frontrunner for now. The good news is I think they all want to be the best Russian which brings a healthy World Ranking with it I'm sure and when the competition starts we will see much better skates. Russian Nationals anyone

Me thinks after an Olympics season the ones who competed in it will always start off on cruise control.

Radionova's music, aside from the part after the halfway mark that sort of goes back to the initial theme, is effectively made up of the same exact music cuts Michelle Kwan used in her 1998 SP. Inspiration? ;)

I actually read they're gonna be there. What happened?

I suspect they weren't there for the same reasons Ilinykh/Zhiganshin skipped - they didn't feel they were ready to show the general public, and wanted to continue to improve on it for their GP events.

Personally, I'd rather have to wait for a prepared performance than watch one that clearly isn't ready to be seen yet.

They're going to Nebelhorn. It's in two weeks. I don't think their dances are not ready. They probably have different reasons..

Maybe they're resting up
They're doing Nebelhorn, Finlandia, SA, and TEB I think
And then probably the GPF - so it's going to be a very tiring season for them

I hope you're right, and they both are healthy.

I heard only good words about their programs by different people. I think their programs are ready, but if they're going to Nebelhorn in 2 weeks I see no reason for them to do the open skate. They already did the closed one for the specialists, so that's fine.

I agree. The only problem is that they were announced. At least unofficially.

I think it's pretty awesome that we wonder about anyone and everyone who didn't participate, but just take the fact that Volosozhar/Trankov didn't come for granted.
Like it's obvious that they won't show up, why should they, why would they need it (at least that's how I feel)

I think they're a class of themselves now, like Yuna was in 2009/10.
