Sakamoto to retire after 2026 Olympics

I am happy that not only that it looks like Kaori is going to skate to the fullest for her final season (the music for her programs are so big and flowy and good), but that she really was able to take her career to this extent. Olympic medalist, 3-time World Champion, 5-time National Champion, and so many more achievements.

I still remember how during my first competition really following her skating, she didn't have a great jumping day in that competition. But her skating was just so big and fast and good. I quietly always rooted for her regardless of her lack of 3A and quads, and also her distinct style of powerful, athletic skating in Japan. To be able to see her skating rewarded and to see Kaori become the leader of her discipline, setting healthy examples to younger skaters who look up to her.... so thankful that she decided to continue skating, she's given so much, and wishing all the best for her in this final season!
