I can't remember when was the last time a figure skating book caused so much debate. As of lately Sasha seems to be the most talked about skater on goldenskate.

That's very true. The two recent threads on Sasha's book each ran to 5 pages.

In fact, I just did a quick search of the first few pages of the Edge to see which skaters are most popular on Golden Skate. The winner: Irina Slutskaya, with a total of 9123 "views" on three threads. Sasha is the second most popular.

The list:

Irina Slutskaya -- 9123 views (3 threads)
Sasha Cohen -- 9072 views (4 threads)
Sarah Hughes -- 3432 views (3 threads)
Tara Lipinski -- 2592 views (1 thread)
Michael Weiss -- 1846 views (3 threads)
Kimmie meissner -- 891 views (1 thread)
Angela Nikodinov -- 172 views (1 thread)

And in last place, poor neglected Michelle Kwan, with a pitiful 160 views (2 threads).

Mathman, do you know why that is? Michelle is passe`. Deep down, her fans think she is over-the-hill and they have to focus on Irina and Sasha. They know by talking about Inina and Sasha, takes their mind of her. They are so scared of what's going to happen to her at worlds, that they have to belittle other skaters.
The so-called KWEEN will be dethroned and they can't handle the reality of it. Now that I have answered my own question, what do you think.

Poor Michelle.

But that's all right. I just signed up for the Katy Taylor fan club!

For a person who's so not interested in Cohen's book, you spend a lot of time on talking it down (without even reading it, of course). By the way, how do you know her on-line journal is "heavily edited by a PR team?" Is she illiterate, or non-articulate, that she cannon write her own lines about attending a birthday party, or going to the movies? At the same time you've managed to find a "controversial line" in the short preview (where she writes about skaters rushing onto the ice for the warm-up) in something that, as you assured us -- a heavily censured material. Either Cohen's book's a sweetened product of some mighty "PR machine," or it's a controversial, thought provoking read, but you cannot have it both ways at the same time.

Controversial? Not at all! Just typical Sasha. Remember, she was the one who said about the 2002 Nationals "bumping" incident, that when she is on the ice she thinks only about what she is doing, not about everyone else. She's the same way about getting onto the ice first. Other skaters exist only peripherally in Sasha's world.

Millie obviously you don't understand that with a Kween such as Kwan not winning a competition does nothing to diminish her Kweenliness or the devotion of her subjects, LOL.

We are feeling so good about our gal that we are throwing her poor, often ignored competitors mercy posts so that they too may for once experience a small taste of what it might be like to be the Kween if only they had her talent and presence on the ice!

Michelle's skating speaks for itself. She didn't need to drum up publicity or try to draw attention away from the actual skating prior to Worlds by putting out a book for tweens, posing for photos of questionable taste, or hinting at retirement. Her talent will be rewarded without the help af a ghostwriter or staple in her navel.

What a ridiculously pathetic attempt at trolling. If you are going to have a go at Michelle, then at least have the decency to say something interesting or innovative, istead of repeating what Kwanhaters have been saying for years and years.

In an earlier post, you requested others to stop picking on Sasha, yet here you are, not only dissing Michelle, but her fans too. Umm, hello kettle? It's pot here. Guess what? You're black too!

Besides, the Kween was dethroned last year, when Shizuka Arakawa, a 22yo Japanese skater, won the Ladies Title at 2004 Worlds. And if Michelle is so "passe", as you claim, then why has your darling Sasha not made the most of the opportunity to win her first US title in the last few years? Oh, what happened in 2003? Uh, she fell. OK, what about 2004? Uh, she fell again. Well, what about this year? She fell (again). Splat. Splat. Splat. If the Kween is "over-the-hill", then Sasha is the US Nationals Zamboni Ice Machine.

Oh btw, just because Michelle hasn't competed under CoP, it doesn't mean she won't challenge for a medal at Moscow Worlds. She has been on the podium for the last 9 years, so only an idiot would count her out.

Welcome to the real world.

I don’t think these numbers are to be proud of since the vast majority of these hits are digs, snips and bashing of these skaters.

The Irina, Sasha, Sarah and Tara threads are not lively, interesting discussion of these skaters but an outlet for negative posts. And those who post to defend are plowed under with more snips.

BTW, your figures proved what I suspected all along, if you dislike Irina, Sasha, Sarah and Tara go to Golden Skate.
As I said those numbers are not to be proud.

But Toni, how can you like them both? Kimmiefans is a sister site to Sashafans, while the Katy Taylor site just issued a special welcome to folks from the MK Forum!

 Asada Assasins!!! I love that name (very "Shinsen-gumi"...private joke for those who say Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X). There should be a fanlisting for her with that name (and of course Taylor's Terrors and the other gangs as well). I am very addictive to fanlistings lately, especially those about figure skating:

LOL! I'm sure that is a universal feeling for ALL skaters, not just Sasha, IMO.

Hikaru, good grief, I never realized that there are not only fan sites for all the skaters, but separate sites for each individual program! Cool. (But after a while, what do you guys talk about, for instance at the "Aranjuez fan site"?)

BTW, I was just kidding about Kimmie, Katy and Mao. They are obviously passe and over the hill. They need to step aside so the younger skaters can have a shot at it. Does anyone want to join my new Charlie White site?

Good question as to what we would talk at the Aranjuez site..."ehh, the costume is very nice! ehh...see there I also joing the Malaguena site... eh...very nice costume too... OOh, Alexei Yagudin sites!!"

I loved the joke, but I trully can imagine the scary fans that we'll see in the future (this comes from the girl that wanted an Asada Assasins fan listings though... I'm joking BTW  )

I just saw this topic. What the heck?

This is the sort of 'kiddie bio' about female skaters that comes out right before an Olympics. In this case, I can't help but think that Sasha's publicists are scrambling to make some money earlier-than-usual, before Moscow Worlds, in case Sasha falters early. She's still bankable now.

You can give your snide remarks, but you can't take them!!!! It's a joke how you treat your own skaters going into Worlds, Sasha don't represent Iraq, she will be representing the U.S. With regards to fans, Rochette and Phaneuf will represent my country and I am proud of both of them and no matter how they do, they will make us proud. PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT!!!!!!!

I think a lot of you guys take this waaaaaay too seriusly. Skaters are athletes/entertainers not your brother, sister, child, or best friend. IMO if they put themselves out there and welcome the adoratrion no matter how obsessive and over the top then they must also be able to take the criticism no matter how catty or hurtful. If Sasha doesn't want to be called the human Zamboni then stop falling. If Michelle doesn't want to be considered passe then compete more. If Irina doesn't want to be considered trashy then don't pose for pictures to promote being voted the sexiest athlete. I don't skate, have never had any desire to but appreciate those who do. OTOH I have as much fun going back and forth with other posters as I do watching the actual skating. That's the fun of this board for me finding out if someone else shares your opinion about a program, costume, or what Dick and Peggy had to say. Kind of like coffee the morning after with your friends.

The World Championships will begin in less than 2 weeks and posters are dwelling on a skater's book which isn't even published yet. :sheesh:

or are they dwelling on something other than the book? I think everyone has said something about the book. The rest of the remarks are superfluous. Give the girl a break and let her book be published. you don't have to buy it and you don't even have to read it. That's up to you.

Now how about a discussion of the worlds, the CoP, there are a number of topics on the Forum right now.

You obviously have problems understanding the main thrust of my last post.

Here is your original quote I was referring to:

I think that this thread is starting to get ugly and down-right mean. Please leave the girl with a bit of dignity!!!

You asked Piel not to pick on Sasha, even though the comment he/she made was related to the original thread (ie Sasha's upcoming book). Then further down the same thread, you do exactly the same thing you asked Piel not to do -- pick on a skater. You not only dissed Michelle, but her fans. What gives you the right to bash a skater when you are asking someone else not to do the same thing? Is that not hypocritical and two-faced? Besides, Piel's remark was made in the tongue-in-cheek vein, there was a smilie at the end of the comment, and it was related to the thread. On the other hand, your comment about how Kwanatics are secretly in denial and how the Kween is passe and over-the-hill, was vindictive and uncalled for. And, it wasn't even related to the thread (ie Sasha's upcoming book).

I have never asked anyone not to bash a skater; if he/she wants to do so, it's none of my business. If you read my post carefully, I said your comments were a ridiculously pathetic attempt at trolling. Notice that I didn't ask you not to bash a skater or her fans. There is a big difference.

Also, my last post has nothing to do with how I treat Sasha, or any other of the US skaters going into Worlds. My remarks about Sasha's falls at the last three Nationals were made in reference to your comment about how Michelle is passe and over-the-hill. If Michelle was really that bad, then Sasha would have beaten her easily. IIRC, not a single judge has placed Sasha ahead of Michelle in the LP for the past three years at Nationals.

Oh and btw, if you disagree with me, then at least have the courtesy to elaborate on the reasons, instead of responding with an irrelevant post -- using capital letters and repetitive smilies does nothing to explain why you disagree with me, it only shows how childish and immature you really are.
