Why no mention of this in her journal all summer? She has been good at faithfully updating. Talk of shingles, the flu, spider bites. I think back pain would have been discussed. Sounding very strange. I wonder what Robin thinks? I wonder if this makes her think of Sarah and how determined and great she was?

Huh? Are you implying that Sasha is not determined and great?

Shingles, flu, spider bites are not skating related, and known to go away with time. A back injury caused by skating would be much more of a concern...in fact so much that she may have been undecided whether to mention it at all. May be she thought it was manageable until she came to the conclusion it was too big a risk to keep skating/competing with it.

As Mzheng mentioned, the USFSA is going to sweeten the pot for U.S. skaters who win medals at international events this year, with bonuses from $1000 to $35,000. Every little bit helps, LOL.

Can anyone tell from that USFSA announcement (or knows from another source) if the bonuses are to be shared among medal winners or are those the amounts each discipline will get? For example, if both a lady US skater and a US pair were to win gold at 2005 Worlds would they each get $35,000 or is it split between them?

Here's the link again. I've read and reread it and can't figure it out. :p

In the past, Sasha's journal has usually mentioned illnesses and injuries AFTER an event where she didn't perform particularly well. She didn't write about the shingles attack she had in late December until after she had finished 2nd at Nationals in January.

In this case, she is reporting the injury as the reason for skipping an event (and probably the entire GP).
