As I understand the context, you are saying that in basketball, it's good to be a fan of one particular team, to cheer your homies and boo the other guys. But because figure skating is "different," it is bad to have a favorite figure skater and virtuous to like/dislike all skaters equally.Red Dog said:I am a fan of the Houston Rockets. And to spend $50-200 on a Rockets ticket makes it worth it IMO only to Rockets or opponent fans. Personally, I can't compare the two because skating is different...very different IMO.

For me it's just the opposite. I enjoy watching, say, the Super Bowl on TV. But I really don't care who wins.

Doggygirl said:Just my 2 cents here. Discussion boards are a function of the internet, which is basically a free form type of arena. Yes, moderators sometimes affect the personality overall of a given board. But hey - it's a free country (or global internet community) right??
IMO, being designated a moderator has much to do with the time someone is willing to donate to the job (which I am very appreciative of here at GS) as opposed to representing a completely neutral position, or any other position that might not be 100% "popular" with the posters. Of all the boards I participate in (very few actually) I like this and one other (for different reasons BTW) for FS information, in large part, because of the moderators and how they handle things.
I'm not suggesting you should share my opinion. Just wanted to put my 2 cents out there in support of the overall way that GS is managed. Different strokes for different folks. There are certainly plenty of boards that offer a totally different overall "feel" than GS. For me, I'm a die hard GS fan.

I was all appraise of GS's moderators in another thread or was it this thread? See, I guess I posted too much in this board that I can't keep track of my posts. Anyway this in the reason I spend my time participant this board instead of some other boards.
(I can't even keep track of my own girls, much less your girls!)If the Mod does introduce his own bias, he will be reprimanded for it. By bias you mean perceived attacks on other posters? or that he should not be permited to write about his favorite skater(s) or skating in general?Red Dog said:A moderator, IMO, is someone who makes sure the discussions on a board are civil and that posters are following the rules of the board. He/she shouldn't need to share a particular opinion IMO. But there is a slight problem with those who have a really STRONG opinion...he/she will likely introduce his/her own bias rather than just playing by the board rules...JMO

Comeon RD, even me as MK fan have more confidant in Sasha than you.Red Dog said:Still think she won't do better than about 5th at worlds though...I would say 6th or 7th...

chuckm said:From what I have read, Sasha's FS at Worlds will be even more front-loaded than her Nationals FS, with nearly all the jumps before the 2.5 minute mark. That will cost her points under CoP, as well as PCS points for not having a well-balanced program.
