Sasha's "new" ending pose

Maybe Michelle has already told USFS that she will not be able to compete in Turino.Mathman
Math, that has been my thought all along. Her injuries now are a good reason not to go. My other thoughts were in all the years of competing why this important year does she come up with an injury?? I know she had an injury quite a few years ago but why now??? I remember an interview just last year where Michelle said she doesn't get injuries because she's lazy......laughing about it. So why is she injuried this year??

Please don't get me wrong, I hope Michelle goes to the Olympics and wins gold because she does deserve it ......but it's only my opinion that she won't go. If she does go more power to her. :agree: :agree:

Michelle received the highest honor from USFS last year at nationals...She hasn't shown she is fully committed to 06 or future eligible competitions...USFS needs to have a leading role to Italy...Sasha so far is the best candidate...

I agree. With Michelle's season being up in the air, it's only logical that Sasha would be the next skater in line to receive the "hype" going into Turino. We all know that if Michelle had not been injured and had competed in the GP Series like she planned (even if she hadn't competed well), she would be the one headlining the figure skating page on the Olympics site etc.,.

What I find interesting is that Kimmie is on the Olympic page instead of Alissa. Has Kimmie even won anything this year? Alissa came in 2nd at Skate America and 1st at Skate Canada. Granted she didn't do well in the GP Final, but still. She's had a better season than Kimmie. Thus, IMO, she should've been profiled instead of Kimmie, but oh well.

The only event Kimmie placed ahead of Alissa in was Campbells which was kind of insignificant. I think though, that they did the photo shoots and stuff for this site before the Grand Prix season did they not? So before this season, Kimmie had placed higher in everything than Alissa, apart from the Junior Worlds short program. Also THE JUMP probably had a lot to do with it.

I suspect that much of the still shots and film footage (including options and contingencies) were put "in the can" for all of the highly promoted Winter Oly Sports during the off season. So much can happen with the athletes (in any of the sports) once the respective seasons get underway. Once everyone is in full training / competitive mode is not the time for NBC's marketing department to say OOPS - some unexpected thing just happened to Athlete X - so we need to scramble and have hours of photo / film time with Athlete Y. My guess is that they had all kinds of contigency plans in mind during the summer for all of the "promoted" Oly sports.

This is fun to think about - I wonder how many thousands of still shots, and thousands of film footage go "in the can" but are never used.

Just for the local advertising for our business, our photographer takes well over 200 pictures in each photo shoot to get ONE that we end up using. (it's been interesting to learn more about that process!)

I did some comparitive numbers-crunching for Kimmie and Alissa in the Grand Prix Final section, in the Alissa rebounding thread. Might be interesting for those who are interested in those kinds of things.

Maybe she is not that lazy this year? :)

Nancy was not able to skate at Nationals but still went to the Olympics in 94. It was Michelle that was pulled out so that Nancy could go and Michelle said that was only fair. (not a direct quote) Why can't the same thing be done for her. By Olympic time, her injury may be healed and her skating be back on tract.

If Michelle doesn't make it to Nationals or the Olympics I bet you will see her again competing next year. I can't see her ending her career this way. She will have to go out having the skate of her life. She may not win gold but everyone will know that "Michelle just left the building".

Campbells is never significant. It's a dress rehearsal and much to early to say more than what needs to be tweeked. There is time to tweek that skate at Campbell's dress rehearsal.

I think this may be true. Although Michelle used the word "lazy" in a joking way, it is true that she cut back on her performance schedule, and presumably on her practice schedule as well, as physical wear and tear increasingly took its toll.

This year she reportedly went all out in practice, trying out new combination jumps and more difficult spin positions. The result was this serious injury.

But I agree with ladybug. Olympics or not, I bet we see her back next year.

Why do you not expect to see her this year?
I hope I am wrong. Right now, to me it looks like only a 50-50 chance that she will make it back to full competitive strength by February.

And then, how much time is there to practice? It's not exactly like getting back on a bike after disuse over time.

Ladybug .... I love that last line!!!

I am just hoping that Michelle can skate vintage MK programs for the next half of the season next year. There has been no reports floating around about how her training of going. Hopefully all is going well and she will skate lights out at nationals and the olympics. Continue healing Michelle.:)
