Satoko Miyahara

Satoko Miyahara signs contract with Kinoshita Group, receives funds for treatment and new ice rink in hometown

2015 World Silver Medalist Satoko Miyahara has signed a multi-year contract with Kinoshita Group. The contract covers the PyeongChang Olympics as she is considered the top candidate to become the successor of recently retired Mao Asada. She will receive strong support in her aim to recover from her hip injury and medal at the Olympics.

There are many top lady skaters who are represented by their high schools and universities, but few of them sign with companies. From now on she will be affiliated with both Kansai University and Kinoshita Group. There will be an official announcement soon.

According to insiders, Kinoshita Group has sympathized with Miyahara’s dreams and great efforts and has offered the contract. From now on she will receive the best support. The company plans on building an ice rink in Miyahara’s hometown Kyoto, so she will be able to concentrate on her practice in even better conditions.

In addition, she will receive oxygen capsules worth 1 million yen to help her recover. She will also receive a “support pack” which she can carry abroad. A support pack contains Japanese food, body care products, medicine and daily necessities for her to always be in perfect condition.

Miyahara is leading the battle for the two Olympic spots. Due to a stress fracture of the hip joint she has missed the Asian Games, Four Continents and World Championships this season. She is currently preparing to return to practice little by little. As the new generation’s ace, she has received Mao’s torch on her road to ascend to the Olympic podium.

The news was recently announced on TV as well.

Her Star Wars/The Planets seems to be a really popular program this season and many people seem disappointed that she couldn't perform it at Worlds. Is there a chance she'd repeat it as her olympic FS? I wouldn't mind, but I'm curious nonetheless.

Her Star Wars/The Planets seems to be a really popular program this season and many people seem disappointed that she couldn't perform it at Worlds. Is there a chance she'd repeat it as her olympic FS? I wouldn't mind, but I'm curious nonetheless.

In an interview last month she talked about her FS.

- Your FS this season is a bit harder to express.

Yes, it is composed of four parts (of music), and it is very complicated. I need to change moves for every part to adapt to the music flow. I want to polish my interpretation skills so people are moved by my performances.

- What should we focus on?

On the steps. The theme song Planets is about “the fight of peace and love”. As a characteristic, I try to express that “Venus = strong woman”. I hope the choreography of the steps can make you feel the “strong woman”.

So she was still not feeling like she had performed this program to its full potential and she wanted to do that at Worlds. She couldn't do it and she's currently still resting off-ice while other skaters are getting choreography for next season. She'll have a late start with her training and I think keeping the FS would save a lot of time.

Satoko's profile is now listed on Kinoshita Group's official website

Her comment (rough translation): I am very grateful to have received Kinoshita Group’s support at this time. Right now I’m concentrating on receiving medical care for my injury in order to return to competition as soon as possible. I will challenge the 2018 Olympic season with all my strength so I’m humbly asking you to take care of me.

The Planets would be a very good back up program shall she not get the most of a new FS next season :)

I would love to see her long program carried over to next year, with maybe a few tweaks if she wanted to make it a bit different. I love that program.

I wonder when she will next be seen on the ice? I guess shows this summer are definitely out... I just hope she returns on her schedule, not someone else's, and fully recovered. No sense rushing and re injuring....

I'm pretty sure we will either see her at a Challenger Event or if she's not ready, directly in the Grand Prix. She's not listed in the cast of the shows she usually does in the summer.

it would be a great opportunity to see Satoko before GP starts as she was truly missed at the end of the current season, but as many of people there pointed - no need to rush things, no doubt she's a warrior, determined, poised and mentally ready to compete (like spirited competitor she is), but she needs to have her body ready on par with her mind to make the return easier and as smooth as it can be. She is mature beyond her years and has good, responsible team around her. If her physical state will allow, I think that she'll participate in Challenger Series (which makes me excited:))

Now Satoko is sponsored by Kinoshita Group, it will be a natural guess that she'll probably be at Japan Open (event sponsored mainly by Kinoshita). But hopefully she'll be back to condition by then and not having a tight competition schedule (I mean if she'll also go for another B competition in fall).

She has been competing at Japan Open every year since 2014 anyway.

Satoko made her first public appearance after withdrawing from all the competitions of the second half of the season. She attended a JSF awards ceremony in Tokyo today.

She said she will restart practice on ice little by little in May. She's done jumping off-ice and running so far and her rehabilitation is progressing smoothly. She watched Worlds on TV and cheered for the Japanese athletes. She wants to channel the regrets of this season into fighting back next season. She wants to go to the Olympics but she wants to be able to give her best without overdoing it. Meeting with the other athletes today has strengthened her desire to compete again.

ahhh i love her new haircut :luv17: it looks somehow healthier too :scratch2::biggrin: great to hear her rehabilitation is going well and they are taking it slow, i cant wait to see her on ice again
