and picture with Yuzuru  she looks so happy!!!!

i loved it when Carol said "i dont think the word "intimidated" is in her vocabulary", i couldnt agree more! and Yamato's playing with Satoko in the K&C is priceless, happy Satoko is my everything

Hoping, wishing, praying :drama:
if not 3lz3t i wish she would do 2a3t2t (or 2lo) combo she wouldnt be repeating the same combo, not that i have any problem with it but obviously some ppl do

What does this girl have to do to get the respect she deserves in the PCS department? It's a little frustrating, ngl.

She's starting to get a little more in the PCS department but it was the edge call on her 3F that prevented her from going in 2nd today.

I was sad that she didn't receive higher PCS or scores, but the audience completely backed her! I loved the support they gave her when she got her scores.

I thought she was great today! It was really a suitable program for her, showing off her speed.

Congratulations on the silver!! :cheer:

Finally, hard word has paid off! I was worried she'd get underscored again, but this time she got a good one (though I thought PCS were still a bit too low) and even above 140! Soo happy for her! A well-deserved second place!:yahoo:

Satoko!!! I'm so proud of you! :hap93: Congratulations on your 2nd place finish! :clapper:

I was wishing so hard for Satoko to finish on the podium (don't care what placing, as long as she's on it) so yay!! was afraid of judges holding her back on the PCS as usual 0 but I'm really glad she scored a PB today :)

also this really got me thinking today. Do you think Satoko might've been subjected to social bias due to her size/ looks - seeing that this part of this sport's judgement can be swayed by certain superficial qualities - i.e how the performer looks? It's no secret that in human societies across the world, people with certain attributes (height, symmetrical facial features, classical beauty etc) are treated differently from people who who lack similar qualities. I remember the low PCS hell Akiko had in her competitive days, and how despite her obvious talent and skills on the ice - would get dinged really bad if she makes a bit of mistake, and consistently got her PCS held back. And I remember a session from TSL with PJ Kwong before 2013 World championship. They were talking about how beautiful Akiko's costume was, and PJ Kwong insinuated that Akiko needed the 'embellishment' (the beautiful dress, the exquisitely choreographed programs) because 'she doesn't have what other girls have naturally'.
Now what does she mean by that? :scratch2:
If it's talent, Akiko had it in boatloads I think. Her jumps may not be consistent, but she was good enough to be an elite skater, and in her moments were able to command the ice enough to give you chills!
So I was wondering - were they talking about her outward appearance? (Which really shouldn't be judged but seeing this is a performance sport, I think skaters are subjected to certain amount of judgement or biases about their looks to a certain degree - even if it's a subconscious thing).

What do you guys think though? Do you think this applies to how Satoko is being judged now? I personally don't think how a person look should affect how they are judged - but I also think humans are terribly flawed and easily subject to cognitive and social bias that they do it without even realizing it.

Her small stature is probably what people judge her the most on, in terms of "social bias" or physical judgement. Of course, that's something she can't control, and something she's learned to work with while still excelling at other aspects of skating. I keep repeating this, but Satoko acknowledges the height of her jumps as something that needs improvement, and it's something she's trying to work on. At this point, the people who dislike her are probably not going to change their minds regardless of what she does. It's hard for a girl under 5 ft to make her jumps as big as others with a more powerful figure and a taller stature. At least she's acknowledging her mistakes. There are a lot of skaters who claim not to have issues, thus never trying to improve them.

In terms of "beauty standards", I'm not exactly sure. When I like a skater, it's definitely not how beautiful they are according to societal standards (tall stature, skinny, etc).
