Satoko Miyahara

As long as the same step sequence was recognized and awarded level 4 and +1.40 GOE at the US Classic I think Mie Hamada has all the right to be angry about what happened. Thanks to the invalid step sequence, she lost 5.30 points in TES.

I was relieved they didn't drop her PCS along with her TES although as long as Medvedeva and Wagner are scoring 70 and up, 67 is still not enough. All things considered, she still managed to skate a solid free skate and make the podium. After the SP she said she was frustrated and nervous and it showed in her run-through yesterday morning. I was actually worried she'd fall or pop a jump. Not a chance. You see her falling or popping in practice or even exhibitions but never in competition; she was a totally different person. Without a doubt, the strongest fighter of all Japanese ladies.

Since most people are focused on her prerotations, UR calls and "getting what she deserves", we're overlooking a lot of beautiful improvements she's making. She's projecting to the audience, and I just love her face expressions. That face she made during the step sequence in the free? It looked like her eyes were shooting lightsabers right at the judges. Maybe that's why they invalidated it.

ugghhh, still pissed about stsq, i would understand if this was the 1st time she skated to this porgram but she did 2 competitions before, i just dont get it, i cant imagine what Satoko and her team must be feeling :ohwell: to me, she has one of the most interesting stsq among this season's LP and got nothing for it (and no Chris, Lori didnt choreograph this LP :palmf:) but i am sure this will fire her up instead of pull her down, her 3-3 survived this tech panel so yay?? and also 2-3 was rotated, as Tracy said she had the spring during LP that was missing at SP

According to the rules, the StepSq has to cover the whole ice, and they didn't think it did. Thus why it was not validated.
If that's the case... then what kind of rule is that?! O_o

The "punishment" is disproportionately harsh, compared to the "crime". A skater can perform step sequence that previously earned level4 and +GoE... but because it doesn't cover quite as much ice... it's completely invalidated?! Instead of losing a level, or receiving a GoE reduction?

Well. I hope it's easy to fix, if Satoko just needs to cover more ice... considering she apparently did cover enough ice in her previous competitions...

They seem just embarrassed this time. Her team adopted this step after getting the views of several judges and had already international competitions. Hamada coach feels responsibility very much...

its not their fault that judges cant seem to agree on how to rate stsq or sth, she competed 2 times already for gods sake, i am sure they will work on it but its so annoying that judges have different standarts to this extent

If Satoko will have to change that glorious step sequence because Skate Canada decided she missed a couple of inches of ice coverage... :angry1: I bet that's why they changed (read took out) the choreography in her SP, who knows what judges told her. Her dress was childish, her SP didn't fit the requirements and now this.

Is it official? Geez, yesterday I was impressed at how she interpreted it, the best Stsq among all the ladies. Maybe they can change only the pattern to gain more ice coverage:confused: I hope they don't change everything:(

I still haven't found any definitive explanation for why it was invalidated at Skate Canada. Does anyone know?

I thought Miyahara was unfairly underscored by the tech panel and her free program scored close to 145 at the Japan Open, just few points shy of Evgenia. After reviewing the tape, there was still nothing wrong with her performance and her step sequence was just beautiful, which embodied the world of Star Wars. It could be the result of the tech panel's desire to give Canadian skaters the home advantage that Adelina Sotnikova allegedly enjoyed at Sochi.

All of the elements seemed to be perfect but Miyahara was severely scored, such as a rotation shortage and a violation of the entry for a jump. In particular, she earned 0 point for steps due to a rule violation. Miyahara was puzzled as she had not even given 0 point for steps so far, "I want to figure out the reason and do it better in the future."

I hope they will only change the pattern :sad21: It's just mind boggling how she got level 4s in two competitions before this and Skate Canada decided it was invalid.

Tbh, last night panel was savage (I'm sure that in another place she gets credit for it). I don't know if it's going to be necessary to change the whole thing, maybe some adjustments, just in case.

She got level 4 and +GOE on her stsq at another 2 competitions and this time it turned into invalid then 0 point? Is that allowed? :scard7:

That too much! waaay harsh. It can be enough to break skater’s spirit, especially for those who aimed on the podium :(

According to a newspaper article, Satoko was so shocked by her scores her eyes were swollen during dinner. Coach Hamada says they will fix the step sequence before NHK.

She had every reason to be, the judges and tech panel were full of BS at this competition to nearly everyone! I hate Skate Canada so much... every year is your lot of BS in this competition.:dev2:

Well, at least the stands are full and they cheer for everyone. Satoko got a well deserved SO, from everyone, not just the Japanese fans. Besides, if it makes her better later on to have criticism now then so be it. I would rather be shocked here than run into potentially the same tech panel at a more important comp.

I'm not a huge fan of Satoko but I'm surprised to find here that her stsq got invalid. :( I do find it strange because as many of you mentioned she got a L4 for it in her early competitions. Though Yuzuru's situation is different (stsq4 suddenly turned stsq3 :dev2:), and the result can no longer be changed, I am disappointed with the judges and tech panel at SC (even Rika was rather underscored). :roll5:

(Maybe SC ain't feelin' the Japan group? :scratch2:) In any case I do like the Japan team overall, so I hope Satoko doesn't get too disheartened. She'll get her stsq4 back next time. :hap10:

I just hope that it will be the last time that Satoko competed for Skate Canada. The experience was too harsh for her and other Japanese delegates. I think they are trying to uplift the Canadian skaters by bringing down the Japanese. Just sad! I hope she will make it big in the NHK and to the Grand Prix Final eventually. Much love for Satoko! :-)
