Satoko Miyahara

really sad news, but I trust and believe in her fighter spirit, she'll be back and hopefully stronger than before. Better clear it out now than push things too hard and have difficulties in Olympic season

:ghug: Satoko and her team!

:sad21: I couldn't believe it when I saw the news on twitter... I hope she rests well and has a quick recovery, I don't care about competitons right now tbh.

Grrr. I hope hope hope she can fully recover in time for Worlds. Argh :(

I know it's irrelevant and the hip injury started before the program but who thought it was a good idea to bring in a fortune teller for the skaters?! Satoko was last in competition luck too.

4 weeks sound tight for Worlds honestly. I hope, if she isn't completely healed by then she won't force herself to Skate while injured. Please take all the time to recover properly for a good Olympics season!!!

Poor girl, should have W/D the nationals to get longer period of recovering time that she would not miss the chance to skate in the OG rink and more importantly, the defend her title:confused2: Tough decision to make but gladly she takes care of her health condition well. :yay:Now I will be looking forward to seeing a girl on fire at worlds.

O no. Hope she can rest and recover well before the Olympics season. It's brave to stop and prioritize her health now for bigger future even though 4cc this time is held in the Olympics arena, especially with Olympics around the corner. All the best to Satoko!!!

 It was already bad enough to see So Youn gone, but now Satoko too? :sad14: At least she'll still be going to Worlds. I hope she has a good recovery!!! :cheer2:

Rough translation of the Nikkan Sports article today

The Japanese federation has announced Satoko Miyahara’s withdrawal from this month’s Four Continents Championships, as well as Asian Winter Games. Miyahara had a strong will to participate at the competitions, but at the same time she was determined to be in perfect condition at the World Championships.

In order to secure 3 spots at the Olympic Games, she had to make a bitter decision. She was diagnosed with stress fracture of the left hip joint in mid January and was told she needed 4 weeks for recovery. With her priority being the World Championships, competing at Four Continents and Asian Games in these conditions would have been almost impossible.

Symptoms of the stress fracture started before the Grand Prix Final, but she was able to endure the pain and get a silver medal. She was also feeling uncomfortable during the National Championships but was able to win her 3rd consecutive title regardless. The pain got worse at the beginning of this year and she skated at the mid season ice shows bearing it. She’s been limiting her practice time since then. Even now, she goes skating almost every day but refrains from jumping the lutz and other jumps involving the axis of the left leg. She will return to full practice in more or less 10 days. “I’m planning on skating strong programs at Worlds,” she said, but there’s still anxiety over the level she will be able to get back to.

:(:sad21::cry::sad4::sad46::sad14:

we only have 6 sad emojis in GS? i need more :sad21:
get well soon and dont force yourself to catch up fast after you get back to training Satton!!!

Wow... that's too quick... It's a stress fracture - it must heal properly first in order to avoid relapse...

I've no idea... they say it's been about 3 weeks since she got the diagnosis and limited her practice time and she's got 10 more days before she's allowed to restart full training. That makes 4 weeks of taking it easy. I'm sure she'll take things once at a time. She's fully aware of the importance of Worlds this season so I trust her to be responsible.

Takahiko Kozuka mentioned Satoko in his latest blog post. He and Satoko have the same trainer, Demi-san, who has been taking care of Taka's physical and psychological condition in the last seasons of his career.

Taka said Demi-san is now taking care of Satoko: "Demi-san is there for her so she will be fine."

Of all people Taka knows best what he's saying. He's been dealing with hip problems since forever.
