“Today I wrote history,” said Savchenko of winning the gold at her fifth Olympics. “This is what counts. I was positive after yesterday. I said to Bruno, we will write history today. And then everything happened as I had imagined it and it came true. It is my moment. We celebrated new year together and we said 2018 will be our year and it became our year.

Wonderful competition all around! Congrats to the warrior queen that is Aljona!! :hap57:

:points: That was a moment. I had a moment. I just don't know how I'm going to handle the rest of the Games now because I was a bit too emotionnal. And I'm never like this. Seeing top 3 crying was just too much.

Thank You Aljona & Bruno for this magical moment :sad14:

This was THE Olympic moment.

Aljona and Bruno are idols for us all. This program created a moment which will stay for eternity.

Aljona's story is so unique and to me it will take weeks to digest what happend today.

I am so glad I woke up in the middle of the night to witness this program and their victory live. They truly were amazing. After yesterday I was more than sure that their battle would be for bronze and I thought they would suffer some nerves, but to come out after less than perfect SP and skate a world record FS is nothing short of awesome. Finally a well deserved gold medal for Aljona and I give mad props to Bruno for living up to such a legend of a partner and improving into one of the best himself.

Today's event really was a history in the making and their emotions backstage were so real and sweet. I could not be happier for them. :clapper:

Yesterday I said I don’t want her (Savchenko) to come back with another bronze medal. She deserved this gold medal.

I also found this quote by Bruno really nice. He does hold her on a pedestal, but he himself deserved the gold just as much! :)

So relieved for Massot...

“Yesterday it was a difficult day for me,” Massot confessed, “but today when I woke up, I felt good. The practice was good and when we went out, we felt like ‘now it’s your time to fight.’ I got the gold medal in my head. Yesterday I said I don’t want her (Savchenko) to come back with another bronze medal. She deserved this gold medal. We were on the ice for the gold medal and we didn’t give up. We were ready for this competition and we proved that we are ready.”

I am incredibly happy for Aliona. I have been cheering for her for more than last ten years and I am so happy she finally did it.

So happy! I don’t really watch Pairs as often but I’ve been rooting for Aliona since I started watching in 2008. I believed in this partnership with Massot right from the start (I remember watching a clip of their performance in a gala before they could compete).
Incredible story, sweet victory, so deserved!

In dictionnary, next to the word "perseverance", there should be Aljona pic.
Wonderful podium. It was my dream podium.

It really is a story of perseverance and determination that transcends the sport in which it happened. A five time Olympian twice within touching distance of the summit with a former partner has to find new partner, fight along with him re release from home federation and to get citizenship and then develop a partnership worthy of one more throw of the dice to get the gold. Couple that with the fight at the event of mistake putting them at a disadvantage but coming through that pressure with near perfection and the win. I will never ever tire of thinking of or telling this story. Just glorious.

I'm so happy for them! :yahoo:

Aliona's perseverance is legendary. And Bruno is an exceptional athlete who made her dream come true (while fulfilling his own dream in the process!).

I agree with yume, this was my dream podium :)

Yes totally agree
What a magnificent skate just wow
Next to the word perseverance, it should have Aljona’s name next to it but I think Aljona’s name should be next to all of these as well: grit, determination, fire, persistence, pair skating queen

She is truly the definition of hard work pays off

So many world golds, European golds and GPF golds and now 3 Olympic medals one of which is a gold medal
So happy for her

She has it all

Being German, this was highly emotional for me. Shouting, hoping, tears - you name it! :D I probably woke up all my neighbours at 5.30h this morning - I hope they will forgive me :P Congrats to the Chinese and the Canadian medals as well - Meagan Duhamel's reaction to Aliona's and Bruno's victory in the K/C-corner was really heartwarming! Hats off to her!

I swear to God, this is the most deserved gold medal I have ever witnessed at the Olympics. For years, she refused to give up and let those bronze medals define her. When she teamed up with Bruno, everyone was saying she would never be able to reach the level she skated at with Robin. She ignored all that and kept fighting for her dream.

What an inspiration.

Now can someone please make a movie about Aliona's story?

Alyona! What a historical moment, what a story! Totally deserved

I wish Mirai to do the same in ladies event!
