Savchenko and Massot capture Pairs gold

Then scroll down to post #84. Kutien has posted a link to all the pairs FS from last night. As of this moment, it's still working.

I hope you'll see it, LRK! Watching the last 8 skates in order is also thrilling!

Thank you! They finally did show it - at least the top 6 - and their free skate was so beautiful it made me feel teary-eyed. I'll try to catch up on the ones I missed later - so thank you again.:)

Happy for Aliona. Happy for Bruno. Happy for Germany. Happy to see Katerina Witt there cheering them on. I, huge fan of S/H, was very happy for S/M.

So happy Aljona finally has one. She deserved it so much.
What a sensational choreography. What a blessing Christopher Dean finally choreographs for pairs. Torville and him somehow stay alive in this FP.

I still can't believe it. And Aljona/Bruno all over every TV station and online headlines. This is bliss!

Right.....she is the poster girl for not giving up on a dream. I know there are a ton of deserving skaters but, I truly hope Patrick Chan win's the OGM.....It's the one medal that has eluded him and I truly hope wins.

Our main news show at 8, which is the most watched program, started with their win this evening. This is huge. Everyone is talking about them.

Their free skate was one of the most beautiful performances I’ve ever seen. Beyond that, seeing Aljona and Bruno’s reactions - from the moment they finished through the time they stood on the podium - made the whole thing even more moving for me as a fan. That was especially so after seeing how devastated he was after the SP. And I loved the responses of their competitors to Aljona’s win - Meghan, already so joyous with her own medal, so warm and generous in her congratulations; Sui, though so obviously disappointed, still behaving with grace and eventually even smiling on the podium. Really a special, unforgettable evening. And a great lesson in persevering when things don’t come easily or when you think they should.

Oh my Godness. Aliona was inspired by Yuzuru to fight for her Gold. https://twitter.com/Iron_Klaus/stat...share|twsrc^m5|twgr^email|twcon^7046|twterm^3

"Asked about how she refreshed her mindset after coming in 4th in the #SP, #AlionaSavchenko said, "Someone told me that #YuzuruHanyu won the World Championships coming in from 5th or 6th. We are in a better position than him so it's possible to win."

I'm sorry to parse words, but I can't help myself. I don't know if Aljona was "inspired by Yuzuru;" it sounds to me more like she was looking for an example of how they could still win. (Of course, in her mind, it could be either way.)

When you think about how it was still 6.0 system when she was coming up, learning pairs, competing in 2002 and right up to 2006, it could be that the old mind-set of how you could control your own destiny only if you were in top 3 after SP was ingrained. Then, because mathematical values are different now, Yuzuru is a great example of how IJS has created a different dynamic.

Maybe Aljona had to be sure in her own mind that it was mathematically possible for them to win; and she needed the example of someone who did. Then when she felt sure, she took the next step in her mind. I love the quotes about how serenely she believed and reassured Bruno that they could win gold.

There is this new channel tlc which shows figure skating. Just found it on my tv.

Huh. Does TLC typically show the Olympics? normally here they like to show things like "My Big Fat Fabulous Life" or "My 600lb Life" or "Say Yes to the Dress" (love that show!!)

It belongs to Discovery Channel which got all rights for broadcasting the Olympics right from the IOC.

That really was a thrilling Olympic pairs free skate to watch. I had a feeling S&M would win gold. She is one of my favorite pair skaters of all time. It's wonderful she can leave her competitive skating with a perfect skate and an Olympic gold medal. I got a kick out of her partner bowing to her. Kurt said that "he didn't want her to leave another Olympics with a bronze medal" must have been a golden moment for him as well. It was also sweet in the the Kiss and Cry watching Meagan and Eric congratulating them. I'm happy for Megan and Eric too on capping their Olympic journey with a bronze medal and such a great free skate, and landing a perfect quad throw. Great skating and judging !

Is there a video somewhere of their medal ceremony with the anthems? Can't find anything on Youtube.

P.S. Edited: NBC Olympics app has them.

This!

Today is the first day in Germany figure skating really matters in this country!!

Even at work people were talking about Aljona and Bruno.
Well I guess S and M represented Germany but not in the same way others represent their country. They sort of bought their way in and picked Germany as the means to get to gold. But I guess a gold medal under a flag is a gold medal for that country.

What a sensational choreography. What a blessing Christopher Dean finally choreographs for pairs. Torville and him somehow stay alive in this FP.

Interviewed on UK television this evening , Dean was clearly emotional over their victory. He paid tribute to the incredible work ethic of Savchenko , her mental strength , and of how her current partnership has worked.

However , having helped with the choreography , he refused to accept any credit for their performance. Instead focussing on Savchenko's incredible focus on attaining her dream.

An unbelievable FS. Well done to all medallists , and also to Marchei and Hotarek - they've completely redefined themselves as skaters here in Korea , and have given themselves every chance to build for the future if they wish to grab it.

To Tarasova/Morosov - there will be plenty of days ahead. Their attitude in defeat was refreshingly honest for top flight sport. No excuses , no whining , just honest and frank. It has risen them in my eyes.

I don't agree with this at all. Aliona represented Germany for more than 15 years and won 5 champions and 2 Olympic medals during that time. I guess you can argue they bought Massot, but Aliona lived and trained in Germany for a long time. Aliona and Bruno could have opted to represent France or Ukraine instead, but opted to stick with Germany and made Bruno go through passing that test!
