She didn't attempt the 7th triple? She was doing another Salchow during the Grand Prix. Anyway, CONGRATS to Joannie!! She didn't need to be perfect to win here, but she definitely needs to step it up for worlds. There's really no need to peak here at Canadians.
Even with the errors, with Leung making mistakes as well, it's really no contest. Rochette had much more difficult combinations, most of which she executed very well. You get big points for that. Would have liked to see her skate free though, and with fewer errors.
I think it should be VERY interesting to see what Skate Canada decides about who they're sending to worlds. Hawker won the FS over Mira, and Phaneuf is looking more and more in shape. I wonder if they'll wait to decide the world team until after 4 Continents, and make them skate for it.....

That sounds fair to me. They should send Cynthia, Mira, and Lesley to 4CC.

It is an interesting scenario . . . Mira had the 2nd best SP, but only the 4th best LP.

It was very close between Mira, Cynthia and Lesley. Cynthia and Lesley are on, strong, back big time.
She did, she had a beautiful salchow after the 3lz fall
Disappointed with joannie's performance, was kind of a downer for me. heartbroken for lesley
The performance of the night by a mile, 2nd in the free, but off the podium, I hope she goes to 4cc! and congrats to the gorgeous Cynthia for getting all her triples back! Landed 2 lutzes, a flip, and a loop this week (SP and LP) which are jumps she didn't even have last year. And my, Mira's jumps have gotten much higher than I'm used to! no question about underrotation anymore.So many talent in canada, amazing depth in women and pairs! I hope Mira and Joannie can secure Canada a third spot for next year's worlds.

I think Joannie should go to 4 Continents. She just has to land that triple-triple in international competition before Sweden.
Oh well, then I have to hope Mira and Joannie will secure three spots for next year.

Thanks for corrections everyone. Being a casual/novice fan, I get to learn a bit about figure skating.
4CC is to be held in Korea, 12-hour flight from Vancouver. For Joannie, it will be another 5-hour flight just to get to Vancouver. They get to spend easily 2 days flying and on top of a week on the actual event and no training. This may disrupt their schedules, so close to the Worlds. Will it be worth it?
Colour me very impressed with how far Phaneuf has come even since the beginning of the season. When she began her comeback, I honestly had no expectations that she would be able to get any but her easiest triples back. I most humbly admit I was in error — and I couldn't be happier about that. Her jumps looked really good, even the couple she put her hand down on. She has all of her triples back. She also has outstanding speed across the ice and has not lost her artistic ability. The ladies at the top should be looking over their shoulders. If she continues to come back at this speed she could be a force to be reckoned with when the Olympic team is decided for 2010.
I said the exact same thing to my Mom while watching Cynthia get her bronze medal a couple of hours ago. (Country Canada showed the Medal Ceremonies) I saw her skate in a show in North Bay, Ontario a couple of years ago and I remembered thinking she'd be lucky to make it back.
Like you rain, I'm so happy this time to be so wrong.
