It didn't give her a 3 jump advantage. Rachael beat Alissa in the free skate.
But Caroline didn't beat Alissa with six triples.

I wonder how iron-clad these rules are. I mean, let's say the top 3 go to 4CC. What would happen if Caroline and Rachael do much better than Alissa in front of international judges?

how many of Caroline's triples were downgraded? they aren't triples if they're downgraded.

They would send Alissa and Rachael to worlds. They MUST send Alissa to Worlds, because she is the national champion.I wonder how iron-clad these rules are. I mean, let's say the top 3 go to 4CC. What would happen if Caroline and Rachael do much better than Alissa in front of international judges?
I know it's not useful to compare skaters in two competitions, but Compare what Caroline got in TEB and Flatt got in COR, i will be suprise if she will beat Flatt in 4CC.Well, Alissa is guaranteed a World's spot because she's the champion. It doesn't matter what happens at 4CC.
But it would be interesting if Caroline beats Rachael with a clear advantage at 4CC. They were very close here at National's, and Caroline lost valuable points in the SP on the layback and a point in PCS just for going early -- Caroline's FS probably wasn't as good as her SP in terms of presentation, and yet she still beat Rachael's PCS in the long. Caroline always seem to be judged more kindly by int'l judges than US ones, and I wouldn't be surprised if she beats Flatt at, 4CC, and Alissa too if she goes out with another 3-triple FS.

What makes you think Caroline would have gotten a full point more in PCS had she skated later in the short program?

Flatt skated two clean programs in CoR, as she did here. Caroline missed out on a 2A altogether in the SP at TEB, and three triples downgraded (3F<-3T in SP, and 3F<-3T in FS) there; here she skated two clean programs, got her 3F-3T ratified in the SP (the only hard 3-3 in the whole competition, probably, not counting the 3T-3T's), and probably got just one downgrade in the long (3F-3T<). So she's clearly getting stronger throughout the season. You cannot compare Caroline's score at TEB with Rachael's at CoR. If they both skate "clean", I think Caroline has a good chance of beating Rachael under int'l scoring. Last year she lost to Rachael by .5 at JW and that was because she got her 3R downgraded (which probably lost her 3-4 points). She hasn't had a single downgraded 3R this year.
:yes:Does anybody else think this was the most tear-jerking nationals in a while? There were so many inspiring skates and emotional moments.

:agree:But Caroline didn't beat Alissa with six triples.
I have to think MK sees this 3 triple LP, and SP with no 3-3, winning nationals and books herself some more ice time.
