Senior Ladies SP

Both GG and Polina are crazy skinny. Polina has great consistency and was clean at JGPF with seven triples and two 3/3s, so I think she'll hold onto that third spot or maybe remain in second. I thought GG looked exquisite.

Yes, Polina was fabulous at JGPF in the long. I loved her there and actually have posted several times on this board that she should be a strong contender to make the US team. However, her short program was seriously underwhelming in terms of choreography/artistry.

She is super skinny but she looks like a girl who's just gone through a growth spurt and is still growing into her body, whereas Gracie looks like someone who's been starving herself down to an unhealthy weight.

Thanks! Love your nick btw!

I was screaming "YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS YASSSSSSSSSSS" everytime Mirai lands her jump.
Yay Mirai

MIRAIII WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!

:clap::clap::clap:

Now bring that pizzazz . passion . killer instinct to Bond! Remember believe in the Miraicle!!!

The USFSA was sending so many messages to so many skaters tonight it felt like Western Union...

Should make for a fascinating LP.

I thought Ashley's SP felt a little deflated; it wasn't as fearless, confident and powerful a skate as she usually does. Gracie, on the other hand - WOW!!! When she walked into one practice session this week, eager, smiling, friendly, beautifully dressed with sophisticated hair and makeup, beaming confidence, I thought, wow - that's the new National Champion and potential OLY medalist. She's thin but not anorexic looking. Her skinniness actually makes her look less like a teenager and junior skater. IMO, she now has a refined, world class look to her skating which is reinforced by her classy, tasteful and elegant costuming.

I don't want to offend anyone, but the people saying Gracie has a chance at an olympic medal are fruit loops. I mean, come on people. There are some incredible, mature skaters that will be vying for medals. Yuna, Mao, Akiko, Carolina to name but a few and that isn't even mentioning the likes of Julia and Adelina who are going to have a lot of push power with the Games being in Russia. I honestly think there is no way the judges would place Gracie in a top 3 spot amongst those skaters. And Osmond, if she is there? I bet there are others I'm missing too. So many great skaters. I love the US girls but even Ashley would be an outside OUTSIDE chance at an Olympic medal. She would need all of those mentioned above to make major errors to podium.
Regardless, I'd love to see one of the US ladies on the podium! I'm just offering an impartial view, since I'm not from a country with competitors at the Olys :)
Can't wait to see the free go down!

I think the USFS is noticing this thus the mark difference for Gracie and Ashley
Wagner's stocks has fallen a bit since the GPF and they are better into pushing Gracie Gold, she is fresh, has big jumps and has media endorsements

Agreed. Plus she's looking the part - her SP and LP dresses and hairstyles have become refined, elegant, and classy. And she projects a fresh, youthful yet refined energy and spirit - almost like a young Grace Kelly.

What mark difference are you referring to? Technical element scores are marked as absolutes and Gold's lead is due to executing her elements well and not making an error as Wagner did.

If we're talking PCS scores, even with an error (and Gracie going clean) Wagner still had the #1 PCS scores.

To say top 3 should go no matter what is a cut and dry method, but it would be pretty short-sighted of the USFS to send somebody like Nagasu/Edmunds over Wagner given the stellar season Wagner has had up until this point. While it might be more fair to send whoever got top 3 at Nationals, it's smarter to send somebody who has consistently performed well in the season (and by far, that has been Wagner). The other countries would laugh their heads off if USFS was so foolish as to send Edmunds or Nagasu in lieu of the GPF bronze medalist and 3rd ranked skater in the world right now.

It's all negligible, as Wagner will easily come top 3, unless she has a FS from hell (which she hasn't had this season).

so what ?
Cziny had a good 2011 season then started bombing at the GPF
It wont matter that much when Wagner had a good GP when you can bomb at the Olympics
Worlds 2012 ala Czisny anyone forgot that

Gracie has the edge atm, she has big jumps, speed and hollywood actress like beauty
a bit shallow to add but she is probably also the most beautiful figure skater I have ever seen

Well, my predictions have officially gone out the window. I'm surprised Ashley had trouble on her combo tonight. IMO, it was probably a good decision to go for the 2T given how wonky her 3F landing was. I'm sure she'll come back mightily in the free. I do think she didn't sell the last 30 or so seconds of the program as well as she has at other times this season.

Gracie did well. Jumps and spins looked great. Good for her for keeping her composure in such a big moment. I don't think she should get in the 8.25 range for anything other than skating skills. The fact that her marks for choreography and performance/execution were that close to Ashley's is a bit of a joke. SP is an improvement over "3 Preludes", but it still feels like someone going through the motions to me. It leaves me very cold. She also seems to have lost a lot of weight since NHK. I hope she's healthy.

Mirai was the best I've seen her in a while. Sold the program well and looked like she was having fun out there! Her 2nd 3T looked close but I guess she got it around.

Edmunds seems to have quite a lot of confidence. Her jumps are impressive. Her spins were excellent. Her presentation, however, makes Courtney Hicks look like Akiko Suzuki. Nothing going on in between the big elements.

Didn't see Gao or Cesario yet. Sorry about Agnes- hopefully she'll pull herself up a bit on Saturday, but you have to think her Olympic dreams are probably over. And LOL to the poster who quipped that the USFSA was Western Union tonight- definitely the best one-liner I've heard all week!

Newsflash: Gold can bomb at the Olympics as well. Hell, she could bomb her Nationals FS.

You are making a lot of ridiculous assumptions and predictions based on Wagner turning her 3-3 into a 3-2.

So if Gold makes any significant error (e.g. turning her 3-3 to a 3-2) in Saturday's FS - which is possible, especially given her FS inconsistencies this season - is it safe to say that she'll bomb at the Olympics?

Forget about Wagner or who is #1 for a moment. What has Gracie done or achieved this season to suggest that she herself won't bomb in Sochi?

she can score higher than Wagner, already even with her old SP she got a 69+
Wagner isn't that hot either, she hasn't even won a Worlds medal in her entire career

Gracie seems to have a renewed confidence now with a new coach and a new SP
I would put Gracie as having more potential consistency leading to Sochi than Wagner atm

I think Gold is better than Suzuki and Kostner. If Gracie can skate lights out tomorrow and at the Olympics, she can win bronze.

I think usfs lost faith in agnes after holding her up for so long, i mean she bombed too many programs already and been awfull at her gps..

The level was just insane. So many clean or near clean programs with top quality jumping content. Wow! :)

I haven't managed to see the performances yet, but given Cain's and Gao's skill level in the PCS department and the performances they have put earlier this season (I assume their choreography didn't undergo any major changes), I would like to know how the judges can justify giving Cain lower PCS.

I didnt expect these results and I had not seen Edmunds and Cain before! I m thrilled for Mirai!
