OK, I'm all for sentimentality, especially in an Olympic year.
Oddly, I was thinking along these lines about 20 minutes ago when I logged in to check out the Worlds results. I was actually thinking it would be nice if Petrova & Tikhinov won one more Worlds on their way out the door, especially given their disappointment in Torino. Would also like to see Zagorska/Sziudek pick up another Worlds medal in their (presumably) last fling as well.
I also agree about Savoie. Among the list of men who are giving it their last go this season (and I'm actually not sure how many, and who, is), I definitely like him the best. Well, him and Ivan Dinev (who I would assume is probably on his way out, too, long as he's been around), but even I know that Ivan is virtually worthless by the time the Euros and Worlds roll around.
It'd be nice to see Liashenko at least in the top 5, but I'm not expecting it to happen. At least she'd be able to go out with her Worlds best. (And I have to assume she's leaving the scene, too; I mean, she was at Lillehammer, for heaven's sake)
DEFINITELY, Drobiazko & Vanagas in Dance, as well as Dubreil/Lauzon. Would also like to see Fraser & Lukanin do well; I thought this was going to be a breakthrough season for them (they won a bronze at one of the GPs, I think), but their Olympic showing wasn't much better than usual.

And, let's be brutally honest, who else does Russia have at present? If O/S don't really move up in the rankings at this competition (top five at the very least) I'll be very surprised to see them together next year.

re. Petrova/Tikhinov: Guess, again, I haven't been paying much attention. I got the Olympic Preview issue of International Figure Skating (the most recent one that the local newstand/magazine shop had) a few days ago and in it they said this season was going to be their last. They must have changed their mind. This is definitely good news for Russia, since Obertas & Slavnov haven't exactly been setting the arenas on fire lately.....
Well I'm not positive about Petrova/Tikhonov going on further, so this might be their last season. Who knows with those Russians, they seem to constantly be changing their minds. I've heard varying reports about that pair, Slutskaya, Plushenko, and Klimkin either retiring or continuing with competition. So we'll see in time.

However, right now Russia has no strong skaters- their worlds team is a prime example. It is possible that they are just trying to help their country by staying on the scene a little longer.
Right after the Olympics many skaters have some feelings about retiring/not retiring, so it is natural if they sound different at different times. Given enough time they will be able to say yes or no to competing even one more year. Ilia Kulik, B&S took their time (one year) to make that decision. May be a year later we will have a better understanding of who is retiring.

I love Pet-Tik's basic skating skills- the stroking, positions, lines, and two skating as one. The judges are ignoring the basics under the COP. It will be nice to see a real pair skating for another year, if they plan to stick around.
I too am wondering about O&S- how long they can stay together when they keep sliding down in the standings.

Klimkin (Russia) with any medal. He's always been his own man on the ice.
Dubreil / Lauzon (Canada) with any medal. Their superb basics, the great choreography and execution of their OD and FD, and that OWG fall--I can't help it--I wish them all the best. They are another couple who skate with such love.
Cohen with a well-earned gold, meaning earned by great, passionate, clean skating.

Jeff winning the gold - Yes, he's my favourite, so that's obvious, but to do it at home (becoming the only Canadian male other than Kurt Browning to ever win Worlds at home) would be amazing. And his skating skills are so pure and easy that it would be amazing to see someone who pays attention to the tiniest details win it. It'd be even better if he did it with 2 triple axels and a quad though...

I would love to see them win gold if only to shut my friends up and say 'see, they rock, they deserve it!'
Cohen - IMO she's the most talented womens skater in the world and has been for a few years now. I would love to see her finally skate cleanly and claim her first world title.

Alexei TIkhonov will be 35 and Maria 29 if they stick around for another year. Alexei has always had stamina problems and they aren't going to get better in another year. Maria also has had problems with a foot injury. Yes, it's true that there is no good pair to replace them, but I think they will continue to slip until it's not worth keeping another team from getting the experience.
