Serafima Sakhanovich

A lot of hesitation before that axel.

I hope they work hard to fix her axel in the next couple of years. I hold my breath every time she goes for it :hopelessness: and the hesitation, she practically jumps at a standstill :disapp:

I also worry about her not feeling comfortable doing triples without tanos/rippons. At some point she has to get used to not doing them if she wants to improve the quality of her jumps.

She should be doing 3F+3T and a 3Lo in her SP... I honestly think that about 60% of her problems this year are due extremely dumb decisions with regards to her jumps... 3 rippon flips is ridiculous(it's far more jarring than what Medvedeva is doing)... just do it once in the FS(or how about not at all)... she should not be doing 1Lo combos as they're prone to under-rotation... and while she has good skating skills and performance quality, the weird entries and poor flow for some of her jumps really hurts her overall performance.

Her jump layouts should be...
SP: 3F+3T 3Lo 2A
FS: 3F+3T 3S+3T+2T 2A+2T 2A 3Lz 3Lo 3F (or actually I think the best is 3F+3T 3F+3T 3S+2T+2T 2A 2A 3lz 3Lo)

^I asked myself this morning why not go for the 3f/3t, 3lp, 2a in the short? :scratch2:

Do you think her 2a is good enough to put in combination? She looks to have no speed into and out of that jump. She looks like she is afraid of it.

I think she's capable of 2a-2t, but I don't think she gets enough speed out of the 2a for a 3t.

Probably because the success rate of her 3F is relatively low atm, she's botched the jump at least once in every competition since Logrono JGP.
I don't think she can do a 2A combo either, her axel barely leaves the ice, let alone attaching a second jump onto it.
What I question is the backloading. They made a new LP for her but the program is still backloaded. That makes no sense.

I wrote that because that's what she did last year...

But she's doing her flip in a really weird way this year... if she can't do 3F-3T anymore then she's done.

I'm baffled what they did with her jumps this year.... part of it must be the the junior requirement for the solo 3F... and then part of it must be trying to push too hard to win and then choosing bad ideas... and part of it must be bad coaching and choreography.

They seriously need to set realistic expectations... shoot for a bronze at a hypothetical grand prix event... stop shooting for the moon because they're making things worse.

I disagree that if she can't do a 3F-3T right now she's done but in Russia unfortunately she probably is done if she can't get it back.

I think part of the problem is that what is realistic for her is much different right now than it was at this point last year. I honestly think at this point they have to just accept that this year is a failed year for her (or we could call it a 'building' year if we want it to sound better) at least relative to where she wants to be. I think first and foremost they need to figure out how to stabilize her jumps going into next year. They also need to figure out what content she can realistically do, right now, and focus first on that, and then on building on that. If she can only hope to land a 3T-3T right now, it would be better to put that in instead of her continuing to crash and burn on tougher combinations. It's not gaining her any points to try to do content she just keeps falling on.

I also do think they should have her start doing non tanos. This might be hard for her for a few weeks as she adjusts but it is a fact that non tano jumps are easier to do and more stable. The bigger issue is really whether she'll be able to get them back if she stops doing them, not if she'd be able to become comfortable not doing them- of course she would, and probably quickly. This would help her stability on the jumps but also would make the jumps safer, since given the high amount of falls right now, it would be safer not to have one arm overhead as these falls are happening.

I don't think you quite get my point.. I figure she's took the 3F-3T out is so she rippon all her flips... if the real reason is that she really can't do 3F-3T then I don't think she has much of a future... it's important to have that combo you can do in both your SP and FS. The problem with choosing to the 3T-3T is that it makes things it more difficult to decide what to do in the FS(I guess 3T-3T, a 1Lo combo, and a -2T... but that would probably mean a 3F-1Lo and she's having problems rotating that 1Lo).

I also do think they should have her start doing non tanos.

Tanos aren't a problem... it's really just the rippon flips.

Didn't see her FS but 122.52 is a very good score for her now, and so is her total score of 176.

Interesting that they gave her a ! for her 3Lz.. I actually looked it in slow-mo(though I'm pretty sure they don't use slow-mo for edge callls) and it actually looked OK to me(and I can't remember it ever being better than a ! before)... hopefully they upload her video soon.

They have the ability to use slow-mo for edge calls now if they wish to, and I am sure they sometimes do.

Also a total score of 176 does put her in the top 25 SB scores for now. It probably won't last but it's a big improvement over #51 which she was before, and should hold up well enough to get her 1 GP spot next year (not guaranteed but realistically she'll get one) and then if she is skating well the Russian Fed can easily give her a host pick.

Can someone tell me the name of the song of the new FS (the first half in particular)? Thanks.

BTW i really like this new program, the old one seemed weird to me.
