Serafima Sakhanovich

WOW, Sima did it!! 202.62 points!! Bib congratulations! She was quite emotional at the K&C by the way. I am sure this event and score ment her a lot and also gave her a lot of motivation and belief for the future. Hopefully she will get at least one GP event next season.

I am so impressed with her jumps :luv17:

The height, and the complete rotation in the air :luv17:

Not sure if her almighty coach can improve her axel and fix her flutz... I would really love to see all her jumps at the same quality as her 3F and 3T

Her axel is actually improved. It‘s still not a good jump by any means but compared to a few seasons ago when she barely even landed a 2A, it‘s a lot better now. Her flutz still doesn‘t look too good but to my untrained eye the edge in the SP looked more flat than inside if not even slightly outside. Turenko is really great for her and I hope she gets some admiration, she‘s really an underrated coach and imo, she doesn‘t deserve it.

Anyways, I‘m SO happy for Sima! :yahoo: She did really, really well in this competition and her reactions to the score were adorable! :luv17:

Sima winning today might be my “most happy skating moment” this season. :hap93:
One of those few occasions, when I’m happy to watch skating home and not in the Arena, so you can let yourself down and cry with your favorite. I’m so happy for her. :yahoo:

And I’m totally gleeful she now gives Russian fed quite some headache, when she can get more than 200 points at an international competition but didn’t qualify for RN as judges held her PCS down even when she skated very well at local events.

By the way in the SP she got the lowest marks from the Russian judge:

Congrats, Sima!!I have always loved her expression and speed :hap10:
This is a small breakthrough, I expect many more victories.

Sima won’t be at Nationals:
https://rsport.ria.ru/figure_skating/20181130/1146748413.html - official statement by Kogan, general secretary of Russian Fed.

So despite Sima is now ranked in 4th position among Russian senior ladies this season if it comes to maximum points, Russian Fed won’t make an exception. Of course their decision would have been completely different in case Sima would have been training under the tutelage of one RF favorite coaches, like Tutberidze, Buyanova or Mishin. :ddevil:

You know what RF? – go to hell. :dev2:
I don’t know how many exceptions and questionable decisions there have been in the past 10 years, I’m too tired to count. Luckily it looks like Sima does not need nationals to qualify for GP. :dev3: And now I think it’s even better for her, just comparing how her PCS developed this season even when skating very well compared to the likes of Gulyakova and others gives a perfect picture, how she would have been judged at RN and that RF is actually not interested in any skaters coming back from puberty / difficulties. Once your results drop, you seem to be done with RF. :frown: It was actually this kind of judging which prevented her from placing higher at Russian Cup events. :rolleye: Luckily there are international competitions which give skaters like Sima a chance, to successfully continue their career.

Adding here that Sima had been offerend the opportunity to switch country, but refrained from doing so as she wanted to compete for Russia. That’s how RF appreciates her patriotism and staying power. :(

(One more thing: AFAIK organizers of NHK wanted to invite actually Sima to Japan, which would have qualified Sima for RN. It was Russian fed who proposed to invite Leonova. So it’s just sickening, when Russian Fed now argues they won’t make an exception for Sima, when they actively prevented her from qualifying for RN via NHK. :bang::bang::bang:)

To put all anger aside and view it more rationally I still think it might be even an advantage for Sima if she does not compete at RN. This article is evidence how much support Sima has from Russian fed currently and so I guess marks at RN would have followed that scheme. The fact that Kogan came out with such a statement just one day after Sima’s success – there is still plenty of time to decide who will skate at RN – is an oath of disclosure and a very big disappointment. :disapp: I very much hope Sima won’t take it to heart and that she will continue to skate well. :)

That’s totally fine. No one wants to see Serafima at Nationals anyway. Everyone would much rather watch them continue to try to make Kostantinova happen. Oh and Baba Leonova as well, cause those two youngsters are the future of Russian skating. Obviously. :rolleye:

Do you know what country? I wonder if she could change her mind... it breaks my heart to see her get only the smaller competitions each year.

I wouldn’t care if Leonova had shown better performances than Sima before that. Age shouldn’t be a decisive factor, actually that’s what hurts Sima, if you are 18+ you are considered “old” as a Russian female single skater. :hslap: But right before that Sima had reached more than 210 points at Panin Memorial. So decision not to support Sima was not taken by principle of sports. :angry1:

I know from a very reliable source that Sima had been given an opportunity to skate for another country and denied. Unfortunately I can’t disclose details. But I also know that she mentioned that she wants to skate for Russia. That’s statement of character.

By the way Russian Fed made an exception for Sofia Samodurova in 2016/17 if I recall it right, as she didn’t reach the JGFP nor did she qualify by the Russian senior cup events. She only skated junior cup events, which don’t count as qualifier for seniors. But there the coach is of course Mishin. :dev2:

Unfortunate for Sima as her comeback the past 2 years has been remarkable. Unfortunately, this is an instance where having a coach with some pull within RusFed might have helped get her into Nationals.

Unfortunately being the right age in view of Russian fed and having an influential coach helps you in general to boost your career in Russia, sometimes even more than your actual performance (see the Kovtun/Menshov example in 2013). :(

In any case Russian fed better should have kept silence on this issue instead of giving a big official statement, as this statement seems to get heavy criticism. E.g. here: https://vk.com/wall-64888695_645753 - more than 180 people commented and most of them in favor of Sima, i.e. that Sima either should be allowed to participate or that the rules need to be changed as they are stupid if they lead to a situation where stronger skaters are out of the game.

Here is an article demanding that the strongest skaters, i.e. Sima should participate at Nationals:

And here is a hashtag Sima for Nationals:

That’s the only good thing about it. She has a lot of fan support.

Has Sima started a separate Finstagram called CuteLoserNotes?
