Sergei Voronov

Congratulations, Sergei! :yay: :hap10: :dance2: I'm so happy for him!

Yulia and Adian, who were commenting the Men's FS, were so happy for him, too! :luv17:

Would you (or any Russian speaker here) mind translating their commentary about him?

I am so glad that Sergei didn't give up after that awful finish at Nationals last year. He looks so solid out there...textbook jumps, maturity, confidence. And he always is so lovely with the other medalists, how can you not love him?

WOW!! He won, I can't believe it. His first ever GP victory - at the age of 30!! And his score was a HUGE PB. That was amazing.
This for sure will be one of my favourite skating moments ever. :yahoo: I could hardly watch the free and I’m so happy for Sergei. I was crying when Sergei’s marks came up, after that I knew he would win this.

Yulia and Adian, who were commenting the Men's FS, were so happy for him, too! :luv17:
That’s what made the whole thing even more emotional for me – two of my favourites commenting Sergei’s win very emotionally touched. Adian: “душа поет“ – „the soul is singing“. :luv17:

An amazing moment for Sergei and his fanbase!!!! Congratulations!!!
We all know how this figure skating world works, but this is what I love to see and why I love this sport: (mature) men being artistic and athletic at the same time... not just boys doing amazing jumps. So inspiring!! Congratulations :hap10:

So, just after Sergei finished his program:

Yulia: May we yell already? Serezha is just great, he's a hero today! It could be seen that he was tired by the end of the program - but no questions to his jumps, except, maybe, one can nitpick about his second quad, but we won't do that. And the hall rises. Just bravo.

Adian: It's just... Serezha attaboy. I just wouldn't say anything else... So many years he has devoted to figure skating.

Yulia: He thanks the audience in Japanese. (coughs a little) I have even lost my voice.

Adian: This program suits him very, very much.

Yulia: And you were nostalgic, I have noticed it.

Adian: Yes, I remember our trainings together, when he used to turn on this music...

Yulia: Yes, he liked to turn on this music at trainings, and was doing transitions and jumps to it.

Adian: Yes, and this music seems to help him.

Yulia: And I'd like to say again, how much this costume suits him, the color and the style... I remember he had some leather pants before, they suited him very much, too.

Adian: As much as I watch it, it's just a feast for eyes... the soul is singing. Serezha is great again.

Yulia: I think they still owe him the Olympics for the Vancouver (meaning that back in Vancouver Borodulin was sent to Olympics instead of Sergei), this season...

Adian: Let's see, it's all in his hands.

Yulia: He deserves it like no one else. So, we will root for him and wish him to get to the Olympics this season. Here they give the close-ups... And the spectacular ending of the program. He has put all his strength into it. Oh, what a joy.

(Sergei says hello to guys from Eurosport where he worked as a commentator and says "See you in Grenoble", Yulia jokingly says "And to us?" and laughs)
(the scores appear)

Yulia: Super! 181.06 he gets for the FS... 271.12 in total. Just bravo!

Adian: It's his best score, in his career.

Oh it’s so sweet ....the personal connection! This made my day!!!

This gold medal might be the one I remember the most this season!

Hooray for Sergei! I'm so happy for him! :yahoo: I was cheering at YouTube as I watched and when his score came up as his personal best, it was fabulous!

I loved his program too! As others have said he timed his triple loop right on the music and it was glorious! He totally threw it down!

As I said in the Mens FS thread: SERGEI FOR SECOND SPOT! SERGEI FOR SECOND SPOT!

I was really, really sad while watching NHK without Yuzu in the competition I was sitting infront of the TV pretty miserable ...but in the SP Voronov cheered me up so much, I thought, 'wouldn't it be splendid if he could win this?' The judges almost never do Voronov any favors or score him generously, so he had to be completely clean, and he was! He really saved the whole men's event with his skating. I was so happy that he won. This is such a satisfying win, from all sides, everyone agrees he deserves it, and won it cleanly and with such a spirited performance that he brought the whole arena to its feet twice.
:yahoo:

I just finished watching men's FS and the medal ceremony. I'm so happy :hap57:, and still worried, he'e peaking too eaarly, or the Russian fed will screw him over again. I'm wishing for him this Oly spot so badly.

Ecstatic for Sergei's well deserved win. :hap93:

Last season he had some wonderful Grand Prix performances too (though not quite as good as NHK and not in both short and long IIRC) and unfortunately had his worst skates at Nationals. I was so bummed for him. I really hope he's successful in pacing himself through the GPF (if he makes it) to Nationals so that he can make the Olympic team!
