Sergei Voronov

Come on everybody! I know it doesn't look great right now for Sergei to get to the Olympics, but let's not give up hope please. :ghug:

I'm sure it would hurt a lot to be denied a third time, especially after working so hard, but the Olys are really not everything. And if he doesn't go, maybe he'll have the strength to keep competing for another season or two. Menshov made it to 32, after all. I just hope he makes a strong argument for himself and we don't have a repeat of last year...

Olympics are the most prestigious event for any athlete and Sergei unfortunately hasn't had a chance to go in his 12 seasons long career as senior. And now he won't make Olympic team again :( I hope RusFed will take into the consideration the whole season, not only the RusNats while picking Olympic Team

I really feel gutted now. Is there a point in still harbouring a glimmer of hope? He’s done so well. [emoji20]

Sergei  Why does this always happen on Nationals?! The beginning of the season was so good, but Nationals :(
Don't believe that RusFed will take into consideration the results of the season.

That's a great mindset,:) and I hope Sergei will view it this way too if he doesn't get to go. I would love to continue to see him skate in competitions, Oly or not. If he continues and skates as he did for all of this season minus nats, his popularity will grow even more.

I hope we’ll get enough signatures together, not that the bloody fed gives a dam. It would be criminal not to send Sergei to Europeans! His success during GP series need to be honoured! No way Dima should be going instead of him.

I only realized during this faisco how much I love Sergei. When I started watching figure skating again in 2014, I remembered he placed second at Euros with a great FS and he had hilariously cringy programs in 2015. It was the closest time he could have won a world medal, but it all came away in the free. He struggled next years to find the right programs and to qualify for Worlds, but everything finally clicks in the most important season of all and he archived the biggest success of his career, but it's again cut short. I liked him, but never cheered for him so much until now... I'm so sad he probably won't go to the Olympics and I am also sad that I became a real fan only now, after GPF and in Russian Nats basically...

Judging by the season so far, it's always possible someone will be injured and he will go as a substitute. Of course I don't wish for anyone to get injured, especially not Dima who's already still getting over the last one. But if it happens then he will get his chance, just like he did at Nepela Trophy & NHK.

Sergei finally speaks out:
Figure skater Voronov tries to find the reason for missing in the national team at the European Championship only in itself
http://tass.ru/sport/4839300
Actually sports.ru gives a more intriguing title to it:
Sergei Voronov: "Let's see how those who got to the national team will show themselves in the international arena"

It's expected to be the usual stuff in which skaters blame themselves for failure, but it must be very hard for him to hide all his emotion. He will decide on future plans after the New Year.

I think it all depends on Dima's health.. He is still injured and struggled thrughout the whole season and now he'll be upping his tech again... I have to say, I'm selfish, I'm hoping that Dima will pull out of Euros so Sergei will get his chance. I'm really sorry, but that's my only hope now, but it's not only about Sergei, if Dima is injured, he should rest and heal, not try even more harder programs, he is a nice skater with a future. If Dima goes to Euros, the possibility that he'll mess up is high and then it will be a wasted spot.

Unfortunately, the games of the Fed are absolutely obvious... :scowl: Many people were saying that everything had been decided even before the Nationals. Kolyada is number one now (well, he has earned that), and Samarin is the new favourite of CSKA and the Fed (instead of Kovtun). And that's the reason why they send the half-injured Dima to the Euros - so that in contrast with him these two would look even better. The Fed doesn't need Sergei who would provide competition for them... It's bad to wish that, yes, but really it appears that the only hope for Sergei now is smb's injury... :(

I will always have fonder memories of Voronov and Menshov than Kovtun or Samarin. Instead of insisting younger is better, the fed should look at the actual skating. But it seems hopeless.
