I personally wouldn't consider age as the major determining factor in how different individuals are viewing what was revealed in the video that was obviously made public with ill-intent.I'm beginning to think that the range of reactions may have a correlation to age, and I'm just an outdated old dinosaur.
Like you, I've got a few summers under my belt, and I am absolutely appalled by how he acted and what he said - I dispute his right to call himself a man. Those who I perceive to be younger (and to be fair, at my age, most people ARE younger), well, they seem to shrug it off.
Perhaps you and I are clinging to a bygone era. You know, an era when boys were brought up to treasure their little sisters, and one in which grown men don't scream at women calling them mindless bitches. But, hey, that's progress for you.
It was mentioned earlier by a commenter that Alex likely knew the session was being recorded. I doubt he realized their practice session was being recorded. Or, if he was aware that a rink recording was active in those moments, I don't think it occurred to him that such a recording might be intercepted and exposed.
There's no excuse for Alex's behavior. For sure, the revelation of their training discord has saddened or repelled many fans. And it has changed how their relationship and Alex's character are now perceived. In the exposed training clip, both siblings were clearly frustrated with each other and undoubtedly stressed about the need to be ready for their upcoming GP competitions. I'm glad they had the courage and determination to proceed with their competitive goals. I hope Maia is feeling okay. Her emotions were very raw at the end of their FD performance at NHK. They must both be feeling a complex of emotions. No matter what, I hope this experience will lead to Alex improving how he reacts toward loved ones in heated moments, and that they will both be able to strengthen their bond and work through unexamined issues stemming from family interactions, athletic training pressures, Maia's post-retirement illness and recovery, and their many years of ambitious career expectations from childhood to adulthood.
