I couldn't help but laugh while watching Team Japan in the K & C. It looked like they skated every single step with Shoma, including the coaches. Quite a different view than they usually have. They are all winners, both on and off the ice.

The synchronized head movements as they watched Shoma were amazing. They were really living it. I'm looking forward to tomorrow (since I will actually be able to watch the stream for it live!) and Team Japan's K&C reactions.

That last spin was on its way out of the camera shot, lol, but apart from that travelling, it was a very strong ending.

That last spin started out to be a beauty, but he must have lost his concentration or maybe was just thinking "Oh thank goodness, I'm done!" Smol bean of our hearts looked like he was needing a suitcase for some traveling! :luv17: I think the spin I want to remember him for was his fabulous GP Final spin, which I know I've already posted -- but really, this is my everything! Textbook perfect, complete with Milva screaming! https://pic.twitter.com/CtJk0T0jFg

That GPF spin was absolutely amazing.

NBC SN commentary on Shoma's WTT FS -- Ryan Bradley and Tanith White

Tanith: Shoma went from 7th in Worlds last year to the silver medal in 2017. Let's see if he can continue that momentum here today.

Ryan: Opening beautiful 4Lo; 4F fighting to stay on his feet but forced to step forward; 3Lz -- judges will take a look at the edge in instant replay...3A / 3T used on the crescendo to highlight the music -- just spectacular.

T: Shoma's interpretation within this freeskate from one competition to the next this season has grown exponentially. He really just has much bigger of a presence each time he competes and performs his program. I have to think he viewed this season as a learning and growing tool for the Olympic year.

R: Second 4F (falls), couldn't get the rotation. Because the first 4F was not in combo, he will be penalized for doing (2) 4F. It will come down to the replay to see how short that was. Then he comes right back with a beautiful 4T. The 3A / 1/2Lo / 3F one of the most difficult possible sequences. Rounding things out with a very clean 3S.

T: Shoma Uno, 19 years old. He's not even breathing hard, somehow after that performance. Look at that technical box, how close it is (to Yuzu's score). Still under review, but very close. The technical people will take a closer look at some of the landings.

R: What is so impressive to me is that Shoma came up with Nathan and Boyang; they are all about the same age. Shoma's maturity is just so much further along than the other two. It's really incredible. You see him right before he starts. He seems like a cute little kid, all of a sudden the music hits, he snaps into character, and he just creates a moment.

T: You mentioned there will potentially be a penalty for the second 4F. Can you explain a little further.

R: You are only allowed to repeat two quad or triple jumps, and you can't have those repeated jumps be the same solo jumps. So by having (2) 4F, even though one was under, he does get a penalty and will only get a percentage of the value.

(At this point they flash to Shoma with a pink bow in his hair in the K & C. Looks like he and Yuzu are having a bowing contest to see who can bow more deeply to the other. My note -- Fluffy seems to like the pink bow. Please do not use for part of next year's costume! :)

T: This season has been a testament to Shoma's maturity and the dedication he has placed in his training on making sure he is a well-rounded skater, not just a jumper - but really a performer overall.

R: He has definitely inserted himself into the Gold Medal conversation.

I love how he holds that pose at the end, he doesn't do that enough!

I agree with you 100%. I wish he would let us savor the moment for just a little bit longer, and I wish he would savor it too! The fist pump works, but let us just enjoy for at least a few seconds! In that particular performance, he was under enormous pressure because he had blown the combination in the SP, so I think when he finished, he was savoring it for a bit and thinking "Did I really just do that?" It was a great moment, one of my favorites of the season! Come to think of it, there were a lot of great moments this season! :luv17:

I want that pink bow photo for my avatar. Too cute!

ETA - I think maybe Team Japan should get a prize for "best props". They had a treasure trove of paraphernalia! So fun!

I love this cute guy! I don't know why his skating remainds me of Daisuke..

That's because Shoma's idol since childhood is Daisuke. There are some videos hidden somewhere in this thread where you can see little Shoma watching Daisuke videos, eyes moist with adoration, haha.

Also, I think it's because Shoma and Daisuke are similarly built. Another reason why the criticism towards Shoma is just so annoying. Compare him to all the top guys. Hell, compare him to all men currently competing. He is tiny. His jumps are not going to be magically as high and impressive as Yuzuru's, Nathan's or Boyang's. It's impossible. He has to work with what he has, and I don't get why people just keep moaning about it.
