i finally watched it again with analytical powers rather than just ...
here are my comments (music nerd as well here)
1)I like the opening, the little steps and the sort of upper body wave he does. throughout the SP, nice arms and one can only imagine what this will be in 6 months.
2) the first spin is gorgeously turning with the musical pulse... it's great to see.. beautiful effect... it's like his speed is matching the music which is very effective in the camel positions
3)steps are good, i think they will get better of course: i think they chose to put them there to not fall into the usual clichés. What's nice in the step sequence is that he does build it up, when the music picks up
4)nice pause, dramatic effect by the boards... i like that... i like that shoma keeps using strange spots to put highlights, like his combo spin in loco.... here the pause would usually be put in center ice... but nope, he does it by the board.
5) repeated chords : building speed for big jumps. good.
6) and of course, the consequence of what I wrote earlier : since he used unusual music for the steps, where the music goes into sequences and where people would choreo their steps and build up becomes where he puts his last two spins.
7) entrance into the sit spin is very effective
8) the combo spin is quite cool as the ending element here with this music.
My only complaint is that i feel that by the time we get to the most known part of the music, it's already the end and there is no more build up... I know some of you will disagree with this but i think it ends a bit "quiet" .. however, in a competition, perhaps the contribution of the crowd will change this perspective. I just feel that there is a small missed opportunity for a big BANG in the end of the program... and the alternative, a softer ending, is not really there either because of the intense music during the spin... so it's intense but then stops suddenly and normally on a cadence, without fireworks... again, we will see what happens when this is skated in a competition.
very good program and what is nice is that despite the warhorse, the concept of the program is different.
