I knew Shoma could do it! His free skate was magnificent! Thrilled for him and loved the interaction between he and Boyang during Boyang's K&C.

This interview with Shoma that demarin posted is lovely. He really has the right idea about just focusing on his own performance and letting the placements come.

So, gala... Don Juan de Marco again? :palmf::slink::laugh:

If so, GET AN EXHIBITION, SHOMA!!! :p

This was literally my dream podium! It's amazing how both ladies and men junior GPF champion from last year are on the podium for senior GPF this year! Having seen him live his speed was the thing that amazed me the most; compare to other men at the same competition (SA from this year) he was quite obviously faster. I am already excited to see more programs from him and we are not even done with this season just yet.

I think Japan will send him to 4cc too; does anyone know how the number of spots for 4cc is determined?

"All stand, please, for Shoma Uno!"

Don't mind me. Just watching the FS for the millionth time and quoting Simon Reed.

I'm just sooooooo happy for Shoma !! I knew he could do it to 3rd place! I'm not a fan of Turandot but his is amazing! The GPF Men Podium was perfect to me !

Shoma!! His performance got my heart! I was so nervous watching him because I really wanted him to get it all together and get a medal. Then he didn't disappoint me. He is my little hero!

Just watched the post-FS press con, and they asked the Japanese medalists about the upcoming Nationals. I love Shoma's answer; he said that even though he hopes to repeat his FS performance at GPF, he knows he can do even better! Love that attitude! And apparently Boyang answered a reporter's question earlier that he hopes he can become friends with Shoma since they are the same age.

Completely agree with everyone talking about Shoma's speed. He is indeed very fast, especially if you consider what a small boy he is. It's really exciting! :yahoo:

I love how Shoma has improved so quickly since last year. He's only 17, turning 18 very soon. I wonder if he'd follow Yuzu's step to get a new coach after this year since he'll be finishing with his high school soon so it's the perfect timing to have a change.

I love the interaction between him and his coach. There are times when he finished his performance he'll take a glance at her before thanking the audience so they must have very strong trust with each other. But in order to improve himself, he'll need new coach, new choreographer to bring out his potential from other aspects. Just look at how much Yuzuru has improved since he went to Orser.

Does he really need a new coach though? I mean maybe he does, maybe he doesn't (and maybe he wants to or not) but that is not a given at all. As for choreographers, he can switch and explore new options while staying with his current coach.

Anyway. I keep rewatching Shoma's FS and also his absolutely stunning exhibition and I think I am suffering mild withdrawal syndrome -_- He skated so so well, I am so happy for him! His cuteness on the podium with Yuzuru also MELTED my heart. Seriously he is just too endearing, I can't cope <3

I agree he is so charming on the ice!!! Can't take my eyes off him when he skates. He just have the charisma that draws people to him even though he's so shy off the ice.
He could stay with his current coach, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I'm sure his coach is AWESOME since she could bring Shoma on the podium so quickly. His current choreography is incredible too, I think he received a 10.0 in the Choreography for his FS in GPF. But when I re-watch his FS, there are many parts where I think he could include more transitions/movements so it doesn't look like he just trying to gain speed all the time and the performance would look richer in transitions (I guess it could be more like Patrick's?)
Nevertheless he's charming even when he is doing nothing at all on the ice hahaha! Become his fan right after GPF.

Shoma's been compared to his idol Daisuke T, but Shoma has something that gets me excited in way Dai never did. I don't know how to say it, but what do you guys think that differentiates the two?

For me I think that Shoma is a much smoother skater than Daisuke. I LOVE Daisuke he was my first favorite skater so to me he will always be special but I felt like his skating was a bit rough... maybe scratchy? I really don't have an eye for technical stuff in skating so I might be COMPLETELY wrong here but I feel like Shoma has better skating skills than Daisuke. But Daisuke's skating made him a bit more wild and raw than Shoma.

I agree. I also think that Dai showed a need for our attention whereas Shoma does not, but gets our attention anyway. The contrarian side if me loves that. ;)

I call him Baby Dai, though of course I know he'll come into his own (he's already starting to). I liked Dai almost right away when I first saw him and Shoma was another one I instantly liked because he reminded me of Dai on some level. That pure artistry and flair. It's infectious. I hope he's less of a headcase than Dai though. The early signs are promising.

The first time I saw Shoma-kun it indeed reminded me of Daisuke-kun; however for the past season I am seeing more and more of his own original style showing through his performances!
