Was that the Team SP or the individual SP? I can understand buying into the hype until that day, but everyone who didn't take Shoma seriously after the Team SP must have been sleeping during the event. Even if you had absolutely no idea about figure skating whatsoever, the points alone should have given you a 'little' hint.

Katarina Witt is bff with Brian Orser, and that's why she knows who Hanyu and Fernandez are. But basically she was there for German TV and they focused on Paul Fentz, national bias of course. She'd been in the studio later and there was almost no talk about Hanyu, Uno or Fernandez either, just like 10 minutes about how much Paul Fentz is inferior. At least it felt like it.

It was for the individual SPs, so they should have known. Interesting about Witt. She was really supportive of the skaters though, standing for plenty of good skates, including Shoma's.

Probably a dumb question but does anyone have a rogue file of Shoma FS at the olympics from British Eurosport? :scard8::cool14:

Lol, the Olympics predictions thread was a prime example of that. Some people were even predicting he wouldn't be on the podium, or that he'd be 6th or lower! I guess they don't believe in basing their predictions on evidence. [emoji39] But then, even the "professional" predicters (FS media etc) were all over the place, so it's all silliness.

LOL yeah they were so off. I had a feeling that he would get silver because I didn't trust Javi to perform well under pressure. Shoma on the other hand is someone who's always done well under pressure. There are four competitors who people should never bet against and they are Yuna, Hanyu, Zhenya, and Shoma.

I want a copy of that rogue file too! Haven't seen the video with the BESP uncles. We need to hear them talk about mighty thighs and good-looking guys. [emoji13]

I actually find this more satisfying, when Shoma is underestimated and does well. Ah, you can hear the protests and exclamations of surprise from here to the moon. Fun times.

Grrr! They seem very stingy with the videos! :gaah: :curse: I like to hear what the different broadcasters have to say. I still have the recordings from the Olympi channel but haven't listened to them again.

The Olympic Channel recordings are relatively meh. I've heard them a few times for the last few skaters, I didn't really find anything that interesting. CBC was more interesting. It would be fun to hear the others too. I wonder what the Chinese have to say sometimes, even though of course they're expected to be at least a little biased towards Boyang. Also, anyone have the BBC ones? Haven't heard them yet.

I don't have the BBC commentary, although I tried to get in at one point per VPN. Didn't work out. I have all the german commentary recorded, and I will translate them at a later point, if there is any interest.

Ha, do you really need to ask if there's an interest! Of course, we want to know!!! [emoji1]

I think Olympic Channel might be the one on NBCOlympics as well that isn't Johnny and Tara.

Speaking of which, if any of you have VR headsets, on the NBC Olympics app you can watch highlights of the mens free skate for free. You can watch the whole competition if you can sign in with your cable provider. I haven't done that yet due to laziness, but I checked out the highlight and they have a 180 degree view of Shoma's free skate. It was interesting. Not a way I'd want to watch the whole competition, but it's fun to see another POV.

Adorable! That is so nice that his sponsor Toyota gave him a party, he certainly deserves it.

I wonder if any rink scouting is going on in Milan ;)
Why would they need to do rink scouting? Just rent the competition rink for the next two weeks and make sure no one else gets on it! [emoji23]

re: commentary, I have a British Eurosport account! I don't have a downloaded version of the video, but I have watched it (multiple times) and their commentary is as wonderful as always!

I'm sure Shoma Rent-a-Rink Uno is busily looking for a rink. Good question though, when will he leave for Milan. He probably is required to be there by the 18th. First official practice on the Main Rink is pretty early Monday morning, the 19th.

ETA--Men's short is 10am Thur., Mar. 22.

Now I really want to hear it! [emoji16]

He should be in Milan soon. Maybe by next week.

You all are always way ahead of me and have probably seen this already, but I just loved seeing this You Tube of Sho's Olympic FS with no talking and being able to hear the audience's reactions. Even with the camera getting in the way a few times, this was still great to see. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sTPKi-phLQ

ETA -- Thank you very much dear posters! <3
