Maybe some of you have already seen this, but a another site user posted a translation of an interview with Angelo Dolfini (the jump coach of Team Champéry) from May 2021. I thought it was really interesting, he talked about the training methods in Champéry and the technique of the skaters, also a lot of stuff about Shoma. It's nice how he emphasizes how extraordinary and talented skater Shoma is. I recommend reading it!

You can read the interview here!

My fav part 😂
Well, it was Shoma's idea. He's the one with the craziest ideas, usually. "Crazy" in the sense, that well, he's an extraordinary skater, I guarantee you.

Great interview Vilya! Thx for posting. It makes me crazy when I read people who say "Stephane needs to get a jump coach at his rink." No he doesn't, he has one -- and a good one at that! Angelo has a very important role at Shompery, and I love that he has a background as a technical specialist. Some fascinating insights into the training at Shompery.

Adding -- I realize injuries can happen to anyone, anywhere. Heck, Adam Rippon broke his foot (or was it ankle?) when he was doing his off-ice warmup. Still -- think strategy. And forget about other skaters' injuries. How someone else got hurt and healed (supposedly) is beside the point. Injuries can also be career-ending. :palmf: Ugh, don't even want to go there.

Thanks for posting! It's reassuring to hear that Team Champéry's priority is preventing injuries. No need to discuss that subject anymore. Let the GP speculation begin!
As far as GPs,.please please Skate Am or Sk Can! I'm hoping, but I'm guessing it'll be between IdF or Finland (if they get one) and NHK. I always wish he wouldn't do NHK, because his Japanese fans can see him in lots of ice shows, Japan Open, Japan Nats, etc. Please share him! If there is no Cup of China, maybe that would go to Korea? Lots of questions! Challengers -- I'll hope for Lake Placid, although that will never happen - not when they can easily go to Shombardia or Finlandia. (Adding--I hope the JSF allows Team Japan to do Challengers next season! )
I'm personally wondering if a Cup of Estonia or another Grand Prix Italy could happen. Finland is a solid country to speculate about, though.

I hate to burst your bubble, Arriba, but skating tickets seem like they're a hot commodity in Japan. I don't think all of Shoma's Japanese fans have the chance to see Shoma even with all the events he does there. He's gotta be kind to the home crowd, you know? To at least allow as many people as possible a chance to see him? 😅

For that reason, I definitely think Shoma will be at NHK Trophy.

As for the other GP, I'm not 100% sure about where he'll go. I kind of don't want to go to Grenoble, though. Wikivoyage describes Grenoble as having "a reputation for being one of the ugliest cities in France" and this gets me concerned. If any of you have been there, feel free to let me know how beautiful or ugly it really is!

As for Challengers, Lake Placid doesn't seem like it has much public transportation, so I probably won't go there unless a skater I have to see is there. I have an internet friend in upstate New York who might be able to assist me, but I don't want to inconvenience him too much. Shombardia seems like a lot of fun, though...! I've always wanted to see Italy.

I think the competition tickets are hard to get, but the ice show ones are easier. It also depends on who all is skating.

Almost seems like they should reward Estonia for coming through in some last-minute situations. Finland is good too.

I had my arrangements set for Grenoble but had to cancel because of a family emergency. It was complicated to get there. Lake Placid seems super difficult without a rental car. Ah such problems. :laugh2: I probably wouldn't go to either unless Shoma would be there.

Really nice photo of Shoma taken by one of the skaters who is there for the camp. Looking good! Hoping for more photos! Love the purple Mizuno shirts.

I actually studied abroad there for a semester in college! I think maybe Wikivoyage means the architecture? Lol it could be more picturesque, but I wouldn't call it ugly... of course, living in the US I think pretty much all the old cobblestone streets and such in Europe look pretty cool. But I also like the river through town and that it's surrounded on three sides by mountains.

I know quite a few people who have gone there for IdF, and they found it very enjoyable. One of the people went from Chicago. The only thing she disliked is that it's a little hard to get to. I had to cancel my 2019 plans to go but will try to make the trip if Shoma goes. I had a list of sightseeing things I wanted to do when I was there.

News from the Swiss cave!!!! Stepen is choreographing the SP, but no word of what it is. So good to hear he's alive and well!!!! :party2::bsplit::cheer: Thank you to feimeicheng for giving us some of the precious details!

Shoma had fun in Champery.
He had a meal with Stephane,Ghislain and Deniss once. Deniss’s carbonara was too delicious that made Shoma gain some weight.
Ghislain is much slimmer now because he lost 35kg than before.
Shoma moved to the same apartment of Koshiro’s and he had a hard time moving his stuffs but people in Champery helped by giving him a ride. They also congratulated Shoma for his winning at Worlds and Shoma is impressed they knew Stephane was absent during Team Event in Beijing and they praised Shoma for his good fight.
Stephane choreographed Shoma’s new SP. It’s possible Shoma will do it at coming PIW but he is not sure about that yet.

Lots of fun news from this account too.
