Thx for posting that! That is one I had never seen either. What a great video! Shoma is like he can't stop smiling, even after he falls on one of his jumps! Even then, he had a lot of "pizzazz" and showmanship. Very charming! I love the part where he takes his jacket off - too funny! And he was doing the cantilever then too. Love the part with Satoko. His teenage awkward years are actually very endearing. :) The rest of us should be very happy that we didn't have to endure cameras and microphones in our faces constantly when we were growing up! :drama:

I'm sure I'd be a very awkward adult if I had to go through that even now.

Thanks for answering to hamaguri's question!

Yes, the sale of Skate America tickets is rather early, since it doesn't take place until October 21-23. Also at that time (June 3), we don't even know who the skaters will be (not until June 29 or 30). I will still go, no matter who is skating but of course really am hoping my favorite skaters will be there...His introduction of Satoko was in Milwaukee. For Boston, when he placed 7th, he wasn't invited to the gala - poor Shoma! :rolleye::drama::shocked:

I often wonder at what point did Coach Yamada know that she had someone very special in Shoma. I'm sure she sees a lot of talented kids, but there are so many factors that come into the picture. With her experience, maybe she knew right away.

Can't wait to hear some news on FaOI - especially about the new program and the costume. Since the violin concerto is from the movie Ladies in Lavender, I am just praying his deep V isn't lavender color! It's too "girl-y". Mao, Akiko, and the US's Karen Chen all wore lavender when they skated to that music. Maybe your idea of purple will be better!

I'm not sure if this will answer your question but Coach Yamada said in an interview (aired in February last year, the same program where Shoma is confronted about his milk tea addiction) that Shoma wasn't able to do difficult jumps until recently and was getting points just for expressions (=PCS?) so she was afraid he wasn't going to get far just with that and was surprised that things have gone smoothly for him.

At that point with jump problems, she probably should have taken him to a jump coach (like he needs now! :) ) It seems like his commitment, work ethic, and love of the sport were there for a long time...That's funny about the milk tea addiction. I didn't know about that. I'm sure I miss a lot of things since so much stuff is in Japanese! :scratch2: Darn! :bang:

I googled "shoma uno milk tea" and ended up on this helpful site.
http://shoma-uno.tumblr.com/post/110511438957/28-news-program-introducing-the-japanese-4cc
It's not exactly the same program that I watched, but it's the same interview. There's even a translation below the video for you!
I don't think he drinks milk tea anymore though because he seems to be on a strict diet.

That was interesting! Thank you...If anyone has any information, I would love to know what his diet is. In that photo where he is eating a piece of cake, his upper body is SO thin. And considering that horizontal stripes tend to make people look heavier, he is REALLY thin. I think he tends to be more bottom heavy, but still, he is pretty thin. I wonder if maybe even a few extra pounds affect his jumps, etc.

I only know that he eats vegetables, or at least tries to eat vegetables now.
So of course I google "shoma uno vegetables" and end up with this
Also this (gif-set made by ioanna?)

I also remember something about lowering his percentage of body fat but I've forgotten the details or where I heard it. I thought it was after he came back from US Int'l FS Classic but can't find any info on it now. He might have done it through a new training method though.

I really wish that Team Yamada gets a permanent jump coach if they don't already because they also have a promising novice skater (Mako Yamashita) who'll turn junior next season. What is Midori doing these days? :coffee:

Ha! Ha! Great photos and comments! I have a friend who says he doesn't eat anything that swims or is green. His wife is Japanese, so sometimes they have a few problems with that! Ha! Did you see the photo of Shoma in Boston at Legal Seafood Restaurant with the big lobster. And of course sitting right in front of him on the table is a HUGE pile of broccoli. (I ate at Legal Seafood while in Boston. The food is terrific!) The broccoli really made me laugh though.

As we are starting to approach the Olympics, it seems like a jump coach is not a luxury - it is a necessity. Shoma really needs some help if he is going to fulfill his potential. And as you are saying, others need this same help. Maybe I am looking at this in a simple way, but doesn't this seem like this shouldn't be THAT difficult for Team Yamada to do. And they need to do it rather quickly. I thought the off-season is the time to be working on jumps! Maybe Midori IS available!!!!

That would make sense that Shoma would try to lower his body fat, although I would think that his percentage is already pretty low. It's good to follow some kind of a regimen though, and he's probably doing some type of strength training.

Thanks mis piggy for all the videos. Especially the last video is so funny. I couldn’t help but laugh to see subtitles. He's always sleeply! Now he’s getting manly, but for most fans having been watching over his growth, he stays still like a baby!

Oops! The gala where shoma introduced Satoko was not that in Boston! Sorry. I was confused.:drama:

I’m looking forward to getting your vivid report of SA, so really wish as many of your favorite skaters will be there!

No Lavender color!
I love most of his exquisite and detailed costumes. So im expecting that he’ll bring nice ones!

As for his summer shows, I find FaOI as well as THE ICE will be so exciting! THE ICE is really fun show. There is dance battle, further, collaboration program between skaters like Jeff and Patrick (I searched for the whole video of their wonderful elegy, but deleted….).
This summer, uncle Dai is also a guest skater (Provably, for the past 2 years, he just appeared as a surprise.) . I really really want Shoma and Dai to skate together there like Jeff and Patrick!.

That dance battle is great! Definitely wasn't expecting to see Uncle Dai in pink shorts!!!! It amazes me that there are so many ice shows in Japan. We have maybe two or three a year! Enjoy!

thanks! most of the shows are aired on tv, so we can enjoy the videos together!

the ice is especially fun show of all shows. further, the skaters also seem so fun and in good terms. they go to an amusement park together! no wonder mura and Charlie came to know well during the show and Charlie has done work for him for the two seasons.

on a different note, i think dai is one of the best dancers of single skaters. i feel the ability to "dance" is a kind of inborn one. about men skaters, Jason and Nathan are very good dancers.
how do you feel about shoma? he can do dancerble pieces?

That's so awesome that the skaters get to know each other so well. And many of the American skaters talk about how much they enjoy participating in ice shows in Japan.

Dai is really one of a kind. I think he could skate to the worst song ever and still make it look good...I think Shoma will be very successful with the danceable pieces. I think I remember Coach Yamada saying that he was always good at the dancing / artistic flair part of skating, but at first he was so shy. Ha! No surprise there! I think I mentioned before that I hoped Shoma was taking notes at TCC while watching Jason. I actually think they could learn a lot from each other.

At Nationals this year, Nathan skated to a great medley of Michael Jackson songs. Everyone was so sad when he hurt himself in the gala. 2 quads in his SP and 4 quads in his FS - too many! He has such great potential. I think he's back on the ice but not doing a lot of heavy duty training.

I think Shoma has a natural talent for dancing. :hap10:

Yes I did see the broccoli. I'd forgotten about it but you reminded me  So funny when it's sitting by him because they're enemies :dev2:
And ITA about the jump coach but I have no idea how simple or difficult it would be to find one. Maybe Mura can coach him after he retires.

I wish it were longer and on a larger ice rink. I could watch them forever :luv17:

That is some really beautiful skating from Patrick and Jeff. When I see skating like that, it makes me sorry that men's skating has become a jump contest. How fun it would be to have Shoma and Dai skate together!

Exactly one week from today, I will be at the box office buying my Skate America tickets. PLEASE skating Gods, make sure Shoma is invited! :yahoo::clap::hap57::hap93::clapper:

American skaters have really showmanship and amuse the audience. Tonight, I was reading the twitter of the first day of FaOI in Makuhari. huge standing ovation for Johnny (“moonlight sonata” of collaboration with the pianist, enthusiasm for M/C “Dreamed a dream” of collaboration with the singer…
On June 5, this weekend show will be aired (Same day of the broadcast of FaOI in Sapporo next week).

Jason is really good example for Shoma!

Tonight, I watched his performance of FaOI last year. He changed the color of his shirt! At first, the color was green! The commentator was Miyamoto-san. He says he has something sexy/manly with his steps and movement. Miyamoto often says like that about Shoma. If he would do work for Shoma, what program would it be?

Poor Nathan… I think that US and JP Men’s skaters are in harder situation. They must compete in the high-leveled Nationals with all their strength and win to get the spot of Worlds. Their peaking get more difficult. Especially, the technical levels of Men’s field today is so high. They work hard to get more scores and get injury… it’s sad.
Further, this year US has only 2 spots. It’s already short for my favorite skaters, Jason, Nathan, Joshua,…
