i find this costume lovely. This is very Johnny.
This pianist is Kotaro FUKUMA. I knew him at last year's FaOI and went to his concert. He's wonderful performer and he loves figure skating (his father once had lessons from Nobuo SATO (Yuka SATO's father, Mao's coach). Now he lives in Europe. He met Stephane there (went to an ice show?) since he was Stephane's fan, and said to him that he was a pianist and wanted to work with him. After that, Stephane came to his concert and listened to his performance. Then, Stephane invited him as a pianist at his show ICE LEGENDS 2014!
This June, Kotaro had a concert at Tokyo during his stay, and Stephane came to here! I was going to this, but i missed. I feel very sorry. If i had been there, i could have seen Stephane, (and showed my deep gratitude for his performances and great devotion for figure skating and Japanese figure skating fields.) :otopic:

Now Shoma is the top skater of Japanese Men field. Someday he will have a chance to do a collaboration program with a musician at any show or exhibition.:) Catching every piece of live music is very difficult, and sometimes, a musician overwhelms a skater. Of course, shoma wouldn't fall in such a situation!.

Stephane is so interesting and has done SO much for figure skating...Maybe Johnny should have borrowed that costume (my favorite) from Taka. But that definitely was VERY Johnny. The performances with the piano are amazing. I think I remember seeing Shoma skate his Kreutzer sonata with a violinist. I really wish we had shows like that! You have seen wonderful shows and concerts!

Thanks for the interview. I actually read it when it was posted. I might be remembering wrong, but I thought I read or watch the interview Shoma said someting like
- he got some advices from a few people, but there are no particular people who fixed his Lutz.
- he almost fixed it before summer training camp (that means before Ilia gave advice to him).
So, my understanding was his team invited Anthony Liu to get quads and got some advice about Lutz, too. I tried to find out that interview, but unfortunately I couldn't.
Anyway, I think Anthony Liu is good for Shoma.

Regarging Mako, she went to Stephane's skating school last summer or fall. I'm hoping now he gave some advice to her (of cource Shoma and Kanako, too) when he was at Chukyo Uni' rink. I'm really looking forward to her debut at JGP.

Today Takahiko held wedding reception. Kanako was there with Shizuka, Mao, Mai and Takahito, so she didn't go to the U.S. with Shoma. I think he already started training there.

Thanks for the information about Mako. I think the JGP selection meet is this weekend. Good luck to her!

It's from MOI in 2015.

Very interesting to read Mihoko sensei's comments regarding Shoma, choreography, ballet, etc. My impression was that he only recently started ballet, but I guess that was incorrect. When I heard that Boyang Jin is taking ballet, it made me hope Shoma was too!
I hope we hear some news soon about what they are doing!

More correctly saying, he used to take ballet lessons. Then, he started taking ballet again this season. I remembered seeing of a video clip showing him taking ballet (just a few seconds) when he was a junior or novice skater.

From Yomiuri news paper "Spotomo of Mai Asada" on May 12th, 2015;
Asked about his training,
Shoma: I used to take ballet and dance lessons, but I didn't like it. I felt embarrassed. I preferred ball games.

I coudn't find when he was was taking ballet. Instead I found this(See bottom).
He started taking Argentine tango lesson in 2011.

Then found this episode with Plushenko (The Ice talk show1).
Does he still remember little Shoma?
Sorry only in Japanese.

Thanks! I love that SP and see it again live.

Further, i didnt know he had dance lessons not just ballet but tango! I thought his musicality is inherent talent. But to know his experiences of those dance lessons, i came to think those are based on his movements.

I took Argentine tango and loved it. It's hard though...My dream is that some day I'll be able to read those Japanese posts!:drama:

You can actually did tango? Nice! I've never took dance lessons (and i dont think i can dance.). So far his FP music doesnt seem to talk to you a lot, but i hope it will grow on you this season.

What is MAD?

We talked about the word while ago in this thread! "montage video" which you use is more suitable name.:drama:
The word "MAD" seems from japanese.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAD_Movie
"A MAD Movie (MADムービー Maddo Mūbī?) (ミュージックアニメ動画, Music Anime Dōga, litt. Anime Music Video) is a Japanese fan-made video, much like an anime music video (AMV), that generally originate from the Japanese website NicoNico. MAD can also describe the Japanese AMV community, although they can be anything from audio clips, edited pictures, to wholly original creations. MADs do not necessarily even need to be related to anime, though the more popular ones typically are. "

Now it seems to be used for (fan) videos made by collecting and arranging images (photos, videos..) and music.

Thank you for your explanation!

I posted this on the TJ thread...
I was reading a blog of a Sota fan and found this video link for 2013 Inter Junior High School Meet. Only 3 years ago, but they are all babies!
Part 1
SP highlights of Shoma, Taichi Honda, Yura Matsuda, Mai Mihara, Riona Kato, Satoko, Risa Yamanaka.
FS highlights of Taichi, Sota, Shoma (full)

Part 2
FS highlights of Yura, Satoko, Riona (full), and the medal ceremony.
Shoma and Riona were the winners.

and just want to add that Shoma appears at around 1:50, 3:50, 8:10 (FS) on the first video and at around 9:50 (medal ceremony) on the second video.

This is all great news. I think some day Shae Lynn is going to choreograph something amazing for Shoma!

I did take Argentine tango, and believe me, I was definitely NOT good at it. It is very difficult but very beautiful. If they ever tour with any of the big tango shows ("Forever Tango" or "Tango Argentino"), they are worth seeing. Uh oh, here I am again, off topic! :hijacked:

After watching Shoma's new tango program again, I can say I am already beginning to like it. I think the part where the violin makes that weird screech and he does the 3A is going to be very cool. His speed is very exciting when we see him skate live; and as we mentioned before, on the smaller show rink he didn't seem to be skating to his full speed. Wish they weren't being so secretive about the SP!

Oh well, only 7 or 8 days 'til we find out about the Grand Prix assignments. And 121 days, 4 hours, and 51 minutes til Skate America.

Sorry to be late. It's not "soon"! My day got terribly busy and this article was difficult to translate. ( Further my PC froze! i hate windows 10. )
Someone correct me.

http://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/winter...medium=twitter

Now his first season as a senior was over, what he is aiming for now is a performance beyond records or scores.

This 18 years old shy boy changes drastically once he gets on the ice.

“There was a huge difference between me and senior skates. Especially, it felt my expressions didn’t go anywhere, so I wanted to practice off season focusing on things other than jumps also.”

He began figure skating when he was five.

“Mao-chan played with me. When the class was over, the letter to urge me to select among figure skating, ice hockey and speed skating. I said “I would like to do the same as that Mao-chan does and chose figure skating.

Dance, swimming, tennis…, further, he got a grab for golf at the age of two and a half. He had already experienced various kinds of sports when he was little, but figure skating felt different from other sports.

“I enjoy just the sense of skating.”

The sense on the ice was different from that on the ground. The unusual sense captured him a lot. One day he fell on the ice and hit his head, still he asked his father to take him there again. The artistry is one of his attractions. However he says “I really disliked dance and ballet. I felt embarrassed so much.”

“These days I got able to dance on the ground a little, but one year ago it felt impossible for me to dance there. I don’t feel embarrassed when I am on the ice, but I feel so on the ground. I am not good at being watched from others.”

He has never given up figure skating. “I haven’t the slightest idea that I will quite it.”
It was since he was a child. When his father asked him “Have you ever wanted to quit it?” , he replied “what would I do after that?”.

The people around him have set the target of Olympics gold medal since he was a child, so he took it for granted. Yet he now has some different thought from it.

“Of course I would love to get a result at Olympics, but I have the bigger thought that it’s not a goal. I feel delighted at getting a good result at a competition, and I think it’s what to do, but at the same time, I truly don’t want to become a skater who takes a title at Olympics but can’t keep being remembered by people. I want to become a skater who can change people’s minds by his performance.”

The Phantom of the Opera by Daisuke Takahashi at Nationals 2006 moved his soul so much.

“I just thought he was awesome and he became my idle, and I wanted to get a skater like him.”

The pre-Olympic season starts this autumn. The expectation by others about his podium at Olympics is getting higher, but he stays calm towards it.

“There are only two years (before Olympics), but it doesn’t feel real since I watched it on TV until while ago, although I think how it would be to get on the stage at Olympics.”

He watched Sochi Olympics, Yuzuru Hanyu’s gold medal on TV.

“I thought he’d been a skater whom I’d competed with about two years before and how much he’d been developed for those two years. I have a good example close to me, so I want to catch him some day and compete at the same level.”

He’s a normal university student once he gets off the rink. His relaxation is doing games. His favorite is a card game “Hearthstone”. But his hate to lose spirit is found also there.

“I’m aiming for the upper in the game field also (lol). I do it every day to get stronger aiming for the upper. In my mind are only skating and games.”

He doesn’t have anything he wants. It’s the same thought as that with skating. He want to cherish its process.

“I don’t feel good if I can take something easily. Getting something easily doesn’t touch me at all even if it is a good result. The time when I feel happiest is that I get it after just keeping working. I practice every day for the moment.”
How is his image about next season?

“I want to make it the year when I will develop (like the last season). It’s not the year when I will get results, but that when I can feel firmly my development. I have a lot of things that feel rough or I can do well with. That means the standard that I aim for is the upper level. There is much room to improve.”

He admits that he walks by his own pace. He isn’t good at setting a goal far ahead of the present time. He’s come here keeping “step by step”. He lives his life hard cherishing this moment.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I find this interview is so nice. Now he’s one of the skaters who attract people’s interests and they talk many things about him as they like. But he himself is down to earth and stays on his feet and just keeps doing what he should do.

I know this will sound crazy but it was very depressing to me to read all the things written in the Shoma Uno Raises the Bar thread! :rolleye: He knows what he has to do to improve, so I guess those fans who care about him just have to trust that he's doing those things. I just kept thinking, "Wow - is his skating really that bad?!" Normally I would have watched his Grand Prix Finals FS to cheer myself up but was in a remote area where I couldn't watch any videos. Thank you for the pat on the back - you are so sweet!

That Machiko/Shoma comment is hilarious!
