And they even posted it early! Hooray! He is looking good. :) He really does just speak from the heart. I like that! And he seems to be going a little easier on the hair wax! Ha! Ha!

ETA: Just noticed the ERIC BOMPARD sign in the background. Could that maybe have been recorded last November at TEB? If so, no wonder he looks so happy. That was where he skated a flawless SP.

I bet the ISU does a lot of clips at competition and keeps to have to post in the future - especially during the off season while things are slow.

That makes perfect sense. Oh well, so much for less hair wax! :luv17: Was very surprised that he mentioned twice that he likes traveling. That might be a good thing if he ever ends up going overseas to train! They did something similar to this with him at Worlds and had it up on the Jumbotron (prior to the start of the competition ) but I was out in the lobby so I missed it. I think his buddy Rusty was interviewing him.:drama:
 
You have good eyes as always Arriba. He might have given a different answer if the interview was done after Worlds. He was so upset that the hard work didn’t pay off there.

It’s only for 1.5 hours with lots of fluff probably, but I hope they'll show as many skaters as possible. Jason’s not in the Osaka show unfortunately but Dai and Nobu are. It’s too bad we won’t see Nobu and Jason together :sad4:

I started paying closer attention to what was in the background of photos when someone posted a photo and in the background I could just barely see a highway sign that I knew was in Hawaii. So we know Shoma went to Hawaii (lucky Shoma). Don't think we knew when the picture was taken. (Detective work is important!)

Hooray! THE ICE is here! Adam Rippon and Mirai both posted photos of themselves on the way to the airport. I'm so jealous! You guys have so many opportunities to see TV or in person shows. I hope some fans will post comments and/or photos. Darn, I was hoping Nobu and Jason could cry together. I have to check Shoma's schedule. I'm sure he is doing some of those shows. All I remember right now is that we won't see his short program until Friends in August. Maybe he will surprise us? (and maybe not!). It looked like he and Stephane were still working on choreography.

Sorry, I forgot people probably wouldn't know who Rusty is. It makes me laugh, because I don't think Shoma is a huge fan of Rusty. He is an announcer who is at most of the big competitions in the U.S. He does interviews with the skaters and fans. He has some terrible habits - he speaks English REALLY fast to people who either don't speak English or speak just a little, and he likes to use "plays on words" or Americanisms that won't make sense to people from other countries.

Love this photo. Looks like Stephane is really coaching Shoma on the details of his program. My guess is they are working on the FS here. On one video clip, there were a few seconds of Shoma's tango music playing ( then the video switched over to Marin).

^ Thanks for explaining who Rusty is. No wonder I didn’t know him. I tend not to watch post-competition interviews because they can get so cringy, especially the interviews done in Japan because they ask the same questions in 10 different ways and the skaters start looking puzzled :confused:

Shoma is in all of the shows for The ICE. Afaik, it’s only Nobu, Dai and Jason (plus the novice skaters) who are not doing all of them. You could say that Jason alone is making up for the Nobu/Dai vacancies for Nagoya and Kita-Kyushu. So excited to see him in Japanese shows :yay: They have a lot of American skaters this year. Meagan/Eric and Kaitlyn/Andrew have been replaced by Tarah Kayne/Daniel O’Shea and Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donahue at the last minute.

Stephane seems to be a very caring and passionate coach for all the skaters he’s worked with. I love how he’s come to see Japanese Nationals in the past too (probably because he’s invited to skate at the gala, but still).

Shoma plans to include the 4F in both his SP and FS. Other than the 4F, he plans on doing a 4-3 and 3A in the SP and 4T twice in the FS.
He says that he always makes mistakes for the first 3 attempts of the 4F, but has been landing them 50% of the time after his body starts moving. He does run-thrus until he succeeds and has been doing both programs without mistakes once a day. Having the 4F in his programs has become normal for him so he's not bothered by it but he does think “This would be so easy without the Flip.”
With the FS, he’s trying to express it without letting the music escape him. He wants to make it look cool and thinks it’s improved.
For the SP, he says it’s a piece of music with slow tempo unlike last season’s up-tempo piece so he wants to melt into the music with transparent-like expressions (whatever that means :handw:). He still focuses too much on jumps for the SP so he’s still at a point where he wants to grasp something more from it.
In Chicago, he did run-thrus where he jumped quads for all the jumps in the FS and he thinks he’s gained stamina.
Last season, he put so much pressure on himself to a point where he thought “If I fail this, I am done,” but this year, he wants to enjoy the practices and competitions as much as possible.

The interviews aren't the greatest, but I really LOVE to hear Shoma's voice, even if I don't understand a word he's saying! :shocked: I loved hearing him in the ISU's "Wait...What?"

The audiences are really in for a treat at THE ICE. Of course Jason and Shoma. Kayne & O'Shea were our 2016 Nationals champions and really gave the audience a lot of thrills and chills. I happened to meet them at Worlds (they were just walking around in the arena lobby). Shoma seems to have a good comfort level with Stephane. You can see in his body language that he is very much at ease with him. I am beginning to wonder if Mihoko sensei did the "skeleton"/framework of the choreography and Stephane is refining it. Seems like Stephane is taking a very active role. I hope Mihoko sensei recorded all the moves on her I-pad/ device! :clap: Maybe this is what we've all been hoping for with Shoma? :rock:

His boot laces came undone and he had to stop to fix it. He fell on all 3A attempts but landed one in the finale.

My goodness -- what's up with the 3A?! Overtraining the quads so it screws up the 3A (as has happened with other skaters)? Really do love the red shirt though.

Please stop Shoma from doing numerous quads in a show without good enough lighting... He may end up injuring himself.

Yes, summer in Japan is hot and humid, but Dai's hair... :drama: He never disappoints me with his crazy hair-styles during the summer. :palmf:

It could be that he’s spending too much time with the quads that he hasn’t had time with the “easier jumps”. I think that’s what he said about the failed 3F-2T in the SP at Worlds but I don’t know what the real reason is here.

At Worlds, everyone focused on the quad where he fell because it looked so painful. I felt bad about that but was probably more concerned that in both the short and the long programs he messed up the 3-3 and they became 3-2. He has to fix that! :rolleye: Poor Shoma - we all have so much advice for him! :slink:

I found the interview where he talks about it on Quadruple 2016 Extra although I’m sure I read it on the web too.
He messed up the easiest jump (3T) in the SP at Worlds because he had too much faith in the 3F-3T and didn’t practice the combo during the 6 minute warm-up and just concentrated on the 4T and 3A instead.

The ICE has a talk show with different skaters at every show and today’s 2nd show was with Dai, Mura and Shoma, the host was Nobu.
From what I can remember from reading tweets:
Shoma was 8 years old the first time he appeared on The ICE and doesn't really remember anything.
Shoma kept on calling Dai “Takahashi senshu (title for athlete)” and Dai had to stop him because he's already retired from competitions.
Dai asked Shoma backstage if he’s in high school yet and was surprised that he’s already a univ. student. He remembers Shoma being all about playing games.
Nobu told Shoma that he’s grown tall and Shoma whispered something like, "My height, no...."
Shoma told Dai that he always looks up to him for expression and Dai said that Shoma still lacks Dai’s “kudosa”. I can’t explain kudosa (kudoi) in English but it’s something like “oily, sticky, thick, repetitious, etc.” Doesn’t sound good but it’s not a bad quality to have in skating.
Coach Yamada asked Mura to teach Shoma how to jump the 3A and Mura told him to try the 4T. Shoma is grateful to Mura for the advice.

As to Dai's new haircut he always does a shaved hairdo for summer, TBH I am always happy when it grows back in.

Is there a separate thread for "THE ICE"? I could not find one. It might be a good idea to start one.
