His jumps look better  and I'm liking this program more. Milva's voice didn't bother me today

Glad she didn't make you "piantao, piantao" today! I realized at Lombardia I barely noticed her!

I know still it's the beginning of season, but I don't know why I got tears to see his performance. His arms, faces,... his expression, all the sequence... this is one of the figure skating sceans I want to see. Yeah, I can see some improvement with his jumps. Further, I didnt feel the vocal noisy this time. I guess this sounded loudly in the small venues and audiences at shows, but the condition in competition venue is different (large, more people...) and the music arrangement is good for competition.
Machiko sensei showed a big joy!

Does that mean "crazy"? I think it must depend on my health or mood whether I can stand her or not.

I got teary watching Nobu  And you might be right about the size of the venue. The vocal part might be too much for small venues with less audience but good for places like Saitama Super Arena. Have you been there? I haven't yet, but I'm hoping that next season's Nationals will be held there.

That's Argentine slang for "a little crazy". Hamaguri makes a good point though, a small or large venue makes a HUGE difference. I remember the Sapporo rink and how overwhelming her voice was. The Skate America venue is large, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out there.

I was thinking that I don't know how much they paid Stephane to work with Shoma, but it was worth every bit of it! He really must have impressed upon Shoma the importance of the sharpness of movements and the facial expression. I was wondering if they will officially say that the choreography was by Stephane and Mihoko sensei, or just Mihoko. Anyway, great performance. So many people said Shoma was too young and too small to attempt a tango style program. I think he's doing ok though.

As you say Stephane's instructions worked very well and the impression of this program gets much different this time. It's kind of another program, co-coreographers!
I also looove his costume!
Im jealous of you for skate America!

The costume of last year's fp is under exhibition now.

That was a nice performance from Shoma!! He has improved in his presentation of this program so much since the debut. Well done!! Clearly doing this in shows and working with Stephane has helped him make it his own.

And on a superficial note: I love his hair cut this year. The back is shorter and it suits him much better :)

Can't believe I didn't notice! He got my nomination for best hair last year! I know people who would kill for that head of hair. Now if we can just get him to use a little less hair wax!

Wow! I guess Judge #3 really liked Shoma kun's interpretation of the music. Have to see what country he/she is from!

ETA Ha! Ha! Surprise - Judge #3 is from the USA.

And Judge #1 from Mexico was really tough on Shoma. Maybe the Spanish singing really got to her!

I'm catching up on JO: I love Shoma's freeskate. When I first saw this program I wasn't convinced, but here, in costume, it showcases Shoma's intensity really well. :hap10:

just saw the JO performance as well. Wow, he is looking so much more "adult" than I remembered! His face has sharpened (I loved those plump cheeks ! ) and was emoting very well throughout the program.

I think the FS costume makes him look a little bit older too. I noticed when he went to the K & C and put on his team jacket, he was back to looking like a little kid again! :)

I haven't been to saitama. And I didnt know the nationals Olympic year will be held there... so scary to imagine the drama which would happen...

I will see him live for the first time at Japan Open this October and I'm so excited.

Hi Kurara - Were you able to go to Japan Open? If so, can you tell us some of your impressions?

I don't love the music for his free program (the singing is a little harsh for me), but I love the skating! Shoma is looking to be in great shape this early. And is it just me or is his free leg on the jumps looking improved?

It might be geoblocked but the GP press conference for TJ has started with these members.

ETA: The video has been uploaded on dailymotion.

I don't think it's been decided yet. However, I am hoping that it will because the venue is probably big enough to squeeze me in.

He debuted his program at an ice show in June, so he has had lots of practice with it since then. The free leg has definitely improved. He came to the U.S. for 3 weeks in June and worked with Alex Ouriashev on his jumps (and other stuff too, including footwork).
