Oh man I've really been out of the loop! Thank you for the update! Had no idea he was here for 3 weeks. It looks to have paid off. I think he is looking world podium bound if he keeps this up.

He definitely did not stand still this summer. I think he and his team took his disappointment at Worlds and really came up with a plan to help him improve. I know you were at Worlds, and I'm sure you remember how heartbroken he was. Anyway, Stephane Lambiel worked with him and Coach Mihoko on choreography too, and he helped him a lot with his programs. Funny thing was, he was training at a rink that's about 20 miles from where I live when he was here working with Alex. I couldn't believe it! They worked a lot on jumps and footwork.

ETA - I think his FS music will grow on you as the season progresses. I barely even notice the shrieking {{:drama:}} now!

Good memory there! Yep, I remember his disappointment. It made me feel sad too even though I thought he didn't do all that badly. I'm glad to see him smiling now. That's so cool that he was training that close to you! Stephane did a great job with him. I have a good feeling about him this year. Wouldn't be surprised if he won Nats either. Sometimes music grows on me or I just get used to it. I'll be watching him skate plenty enough!

Well, I have to say the lady's pronunciation and tone is a bit harsh on the ears, but Shoma's performance does an amazing job tuning it out for me :laugh: speaking a bit more seriously, I think performing it on various ice shows has helped him to get used to that program, it gets better every time.
That 4F :love: that's definitely the best I've seen him do in competition, he made a 4F look easy! This great outing should give him a confidence boost for SA. I'll be cheering for him! :clap:

Some of the ice show rinks were pretty challenging because they were so small, so it's good to see him on a "real" rink where he can get up the proper speed for his jumps. Since the SA venue is really close to Alex Ouriashev's rink, I wondered if he would come here early to train a little bit more on jumps before the competition. I'm so looking forward to seeing him at SA. This was a good start for him, and I hope it gives him good momentum going into the season.

Milva's singing and pronunciation? Well, what can I say? :palmf: This song is wildly popular in Argentina, but it is a bit much for my American ears, even with speaking Spanish. I am more used to it now though. Frankly at first, I disliked the first song more because it was so monotonous! But it all makes sense to me now!

Wow - great job by Shoma at JO! He's clearly been working hard since Lombardia, and it shows.

He did well. I said during Team Cup Challenge that Shoma needed to watch Jason and take notes, so maybe he heard me! :) So glad to see that they are starting to form a friendship. Some of their personal circumstances are so similar -- long-time coach, using the same choreographer many times, and lots of other stuff. Definitely my 2 favorite skaters. I think we're in for quite a treat at Skate America to see them both. Throw in Adam, Jin, Nam (and others), and we're gonna have some amazing skating!

Ah interesting I didn't realize Shoma was watching Jason! And agreed, Skate America is going to be exciting and fascinating. Shoma and Boyang (depending on whether he's an early season skater) have to be considered favorites but the field is exceptionally hard to handicap. I actually think the idea of the Grand Prix Analysis thread on the main forum is really interesting; since it seems to be focused on women I thought of starting one for men. Right now i have work to do but will try to do it later. Unless of course you want to start! ;)

How much smaller were they? I thought it was industry standard to have skating rinks at least ice hockey sized. I believe that is the case even with short track speed skating - and we know how tight that can be with their crashes. :eeking:

I think it is good for all the top skaters to compete against heavy competitive fields in each GP event. For many of these skaters, this could be their only face-to-face matchup against a top competitor until Worlds.
 
I really enjoyed Shoma's LP at JO. And that 4f was a beauty! He has worked so hard... It shows!

I hope he can keep this standard and grow even further so that he peaks for Worlds.

I love that he was inspired by and looks up to Dai T. It really shows in how he moves his body to hit every music note. This performance is soo WOW!!! I can't wait to see this performance when he hits his peak. It will be glorious!!!:love:

Can't remember at this point - it would have been quite awhile ago, maybe as long ago as May. I remember someone saying the Nagoya rink was square (?). And he wasn't the only one who seemed to have a little bit of trouble. Someone remarked that he shouldn't attempt a lot of difficult jumps because the lighting was so poor in some cases.

Bottom line, he survived :) and he looks like he's ready to roll for the season. Should be interesting.
