Stephane and Daisuke talk about Shoma a bit

Stephane(4:44~)
Daisuke(12:40~)

I'm glad to hear especially how Stephane described Shoma. That's one of the reason why I love him.

Agreed! Thanks a lot for uploading. :)

Choreographers love moments of 'chemistry' with skaters while working on choreos for them, and I do love watching such programs that I could see it.:yes:

Thank you so much for posting these links. I was starting to suffer from No Shoma News-itis. :dbana: Interesting that Stephane has a hard time even putting into words what makes Shoma so special. He has had such a wonderful influence on him...The countdown continues to Skate America. I have a feeling it's going to be an amazing competition, and I can't wait to see Shoma!

ETA: It occurs to me that the word Stephane is looking for to describe Shoma is "intuitive". Shoma is an intuitive skater. It's an unusual word and is probably not part of Steph's English vocabulary.

Shoma already left Japan for Skate America on Thursday to get adjusted to the time zone so Arriba’s dream may come true and he might train with Coach Alex until the competition starts. He also says that being in a competition with "the usual people" (Mao and Kanako) will help him relax even if the environment is different.

How many people in this world can call Mao and Kanako, "the usual people"?

:dance2::party2: Hooray! Smart plan. Don't know how they cope with the jet lag. Must be tough. :drama: Sounds like I need to go to Glacier Ice Arena and Center Ice to see if there would be a possible Shoma sighting.

Good luck to Shoma at SkaAm! :cheer: and to Arriba! :cheer: ;)

Jason Brown made some nice comments today about Shoma during his pre Skate America teleconference for Ice Network.

Question: One of your biggest competitors at Skate America is going to be Shoma Uno from Japan. Can you comment on what makes him such a great skater in your eyes?

No matter what, when you watch him skate, what's so special about Shoma is he is such a fighter. When he is on the ice and his music starts--it's go time, it's show time. His attitude is I'm here to do my job and get it done. He never shies away from expectations or pressures that he might have. He is a go getter and he comes and leaves it all on the ice.

I still remember that the jet lag hit me so hard when I had been in America a week. I could hardly stay up during the broad daylight(s) (the midnight in Japan time.) :drama:
I always wonder how skaters could handle and get over the situations.

I had someone tell me jet lag was all in my mind! :drama: I don't think so! Supposedly, for every hour of time difference, it takes you a day to recover. The most I've ever had has been an 8 hour time difference, but even that is brutal! Last year at Worlds, a lady from Tokyo was sitting next to us. When she would arrive at night she would say "Good morning" and vice versa. We kept reminding her what time it was. :laugh2: Yes, I really do have the utmost respect for the skaters and how they cope with it all.To get off a plane after a twelve hour flight and then go to skate soon after- wow!Your sleeping :bed:  and eating  are so mixed up!

I really hope that Shoma has two great, clean performances and can build on through this season! I think a win at 4CC and/or medal at Worlds is more than possible.

The Japan Times has an article about SA - Uno favored to take title at Skate America

I really liked that green on him.

I have been enjoying the predictions here on GS for the men's Skate America competition. From what I can see, people were picking Shoma, Boyang, and Jason for the top three. I thought it seemed pretty evenly split between Shoma and Boyang for first. We all know ice is slippery, but barring any unforeseen disasters, of course I am picking Shoma for first...I keep dreaming that he will come out in the leprechaun costume, which I loved! :luv17:

Ok, I think this just really happened! :hpull: Went over to Glacier Ice Arena and saw Shoma practice for about 25 minutes! His mom and brother were there too. Shook his hand and wished him good luck and he said thank you! He was working on bits and pieces of both the short and long programs. Then he worked on spins :dance2: and his 3 jump combination of 3A, 1Lo, 3F.

You must be so thrilled - congratulations, Arriba! And best of luck to Shoma this week, who has the pressure of being the favorite coming in and the smarts to arrive early enough to overcome jet lag! Looking forward to seeing that 4F and the rest of his beautiful skating live in a few days!

I was so happy that I realized as I was driving home down Milwaukee Ave., I was going WAY over the speed limit! OOPS! Shoma was probably on the ice for an hour, and I just wish I could have gotten there sooner. Was excited to hear that he plans to work with Alex again in Dec. and next summer too. He was very polite and nice and I figured I'd never forgive myself if I didn't take his picture! And something you may be one of the few to appreciate -- I realized in the photo I took that there is a Portillo's bag sitting there on the table! Ha! Oh no, could Shoma be developing bad Chicago habits already?!...I suppose it's ok to be considered the favorite, but I feel like the top 3 places are up for grabs between Shoma, Jason, and Boyang. We'll see. Shoma looked to be very energetic and didn't seem to be jet lagged.

Hi, arriba! Omg, I'm sooooo excited to read the news. You came across Shoma! Shoma has gone there earlier for this scate America. And im glad shoma keeps continuous relationships with Alex! To see Japan open's performance and his jumps are getting improved little by little.

Btw, when are you leaving for scate America? Or you can go there from your home without any stay at hotels? Oh, soon skate America starts!

This was a very exciting day. Glacier is about 45 miles round trip from my house, but I didn't care! And I finally got to see Mrs. Bambi! To me, she looks just like Itsuki. She is VERY pretty and had on a really nice outfit. I wasn't sure if I would be allowed in the rink, but the lady at the reception desk said "Oh sure - come in! You're allowed to watch." I asked his permission before I took his photo. and he was ok with that. He was taking off his skates and talking to Itsuki when I asked if I could take his photo. I'm pretty sure he is done now at Glacier. Alex and the other teacher (Chris) were wishing him Good Luck. As far as I know, this time he did not have any lessons from Alex. He was just using the rink for practice.

Skate America is in the next town over from me and is probably about a 20 minute drive from my house. Thursday is a full day of practices, and the competition starts Friday. Ladies Friday and Sat., men Sat. and Sunday.I am REALLY looking forward to it. I'm thinking Jason, Boyang, and Shoma will be in the top 3, but it's hard to predict what order. We'll see - anything can happen. :agree:
